Johannesburg - Professional cycling team, Team Barloworld, have announced the signing of Enrico Gasparotto to their expanding team.

Gasparotto, 25, leaves Team Liquigas to join the team for a one year contract from 2008.

Gasparotto is an excellent sprinter and further strengthens the team for 2008, which also includes Tour de France stage winner Robbie Hunter of South Africa and another new signing Baden Cooke of Australia.

The 2007 season was a strong one for Gasparotto; he wore the race leader's pink jersey at the Giro d'Italia after the opening team time trial won by Liquigas and then helped then team leader Danilo Di Luca win the final overall classification in the Giro d'Italia.

Gasparotto is from the North-Eastern Friuli region of Italy, and has been a professional cyclist since 2005. Interestingly he carries with him other sporting achievements where he was a played football for the AC Milan youth team.

According to Barloworld Team Manager Claudio Corti "Gasparotto can be trusted to get results in the races that suit him and will be vital to the team if our race calendar includes two major stage races" he said.

Team Barloworld is close to completing the line-up of the team for 2008 and now has 17 quality riders signed to the team. Portugal's Hugo Sabido has also been confirmed for 2008, leaving two or three places left to fill in the final line-up
