ALWAYS GO ACCORDING TO TOP TUBE!. Measure the virtual top tube of your road bike and add 20-30mm and you have your MTB frame size.

 

 

Complete BS. Actually it may not be, but I refuse to go along with any of manfrog's dumbs mtb rules.

 

I ride a 55cm standard geometry road frame, which is usually a medium in compact geometry, and a small mtb frame. I am 1.78m tall.

 

Oh,and my mtb and road bikes have the exact same position, cause I measured on the road bike to setup the mtb. Only change I made was to lower the mtb seat by about 10mm
