 This service on SA-active is for FREE

Your Vitality checkups twice a year is FREE (ok paid by the medical aid, but no money leaves your pocket)

Some people are getting between R1000 and R3000 back per month, you obviously did not know how to work the system!

If you stay on Blue, that is of no use!

Dont quite understand your point, Discovery offers you discounts by shopping at partner stores - YOU PAY LESS than what you normally would, so how is that a bad thing or how are they making more money from you when you are paying less?

All activities feed into two buckets:

Fitness Base points and Fitness Bonus points. Each with a limit of 15000 points.

Gym visits/Polar/Fitness assessment/SA active all feed into the Fitness Base points (easy to fill this)

Bonus points you get for completing your 5th SA Active event, as well as attaining certain levels of fitness during a fitness assessment/keeping avg HR above a certain threshold (70%) for a workout of at least 30 mins.... (I fill mine with the two fitness assessments... Level 5 gives you 7500 bonus points.. do an assessment 2x a year, 5 months+ apart)

really not such a huge issue of 'thousands of lost' points.

They have a PDF file on their website (Discovery), read through that and UNDERSTAND how the system works

keeping avg HR above a certain threshold (70%) for a workout of at least 30 mins

Ironically, this one is quite difficult for me to reach. I can do a 30min interval sitting at 80%+ but because I do a warm-up and cooldown at low HR, the average HR for the whole 60min+ session will be below 70%:P.

I'm not that phased, though. I managed to hit gold status by the second week of January (20,000 carry-over points and the rest from doing all the assesments on the website and going for a Vitality check and HIV test).

Checkups are great, and the points from going to gym are nice, healthy food card is a good benefit too.. but that is where it ends for me. I must be losing out on thousands and thousands of points because of my crappy bike computer and this stupid site that I have yet to get a result from.

Tank, you say there are two sites, what is the url for the correct site? Thanks

Had the old site bookmarked as:

https://www.saactive.com/loginpage.php

New site - www.sa-active.com

Trying to build up points through Virgin Active, Planet Fitness or Polar takes forever because you only earn between 150 and 200 points per workout. You would have to do 75 Polar workouts (above % heart rate) or 100 gym sessions earn 15 000 fitness points

Were as with SA active you can earn 15 000 points in 3 events!

Do 3 road rides longer than 100km!

Then do 2 more events and get awarded and additional bonus 5000 points - taking your total to 20 000 (if you go to gym every day of the year you will max out at 15000)

So you are not losing many points with polar!

Give the SA-active guys a chance, Im sure they will sort out their free service shortly!

So what do I have to do to maximize my familys points then?

I signed up for medical savings now this year and I am led to believe that if your buy healthyfoods and if the money goes onto your MS you can get up to 75% back compared to like 12 or something when it goes into your card.

Obviously the above does work out better if your points are maxed out.

So whats the secret then man?

Share some tips :)

Normally on Health Foods you will receive 10% cashback.

Complete your Personal Health Review online and that increases to 25% cashback.

Should you have a savings facility, you can activate your Medical Savings Booster whereby you will have 75% of your Healthy Foods purchases payed back into your Savings facility of your medical aid! (75% that is a lot!) Oh and you need a Discovery Credit Card.

If you have an investment valued more than R100 000 you can also activate the Investment Booster, whereby the 75% discount will be added to your investment each month! Great way of boosting your investment! But you can have only one or the other.

There are many secrets to share - come and join our next Vitality Day and find out for yourself! We will help you manage your Vitality and make sure that you maximize these great rewards!

I dont use Polar and have cried in Discovery's ears many times to have Garmin hooked up to no avail.

What is your maximum heart rate set as on your Polar unit, did you use the thumb suck method of 220 - age?

See how easy it is to earn points, if an event does not exists on the list, just create it!

Well if that is the case, can you input some of your training rides if you can upload your own event?

how do you then validate the data if you dont have a polar?

I dont have a polar either, but I could record my rides with gps and get a gpx file of it.

I only occasionally use my Polar when I'm forced to go spinning. All of my outdoor riding is done with a Garmin.

I initially used the 220-age to set my HR max, but I've kept it at that value since all of the HR data I've got from very high intensity efforts indicates that it's a good estimate in my case.

No you cant upload your own training rides or events as you call them :P

But if you did an event that is not listed on their site then you can create that event.

As Agteros said, they check the results with the event organizer.

I just give them the link to my Racetec results. Works perfectly!

Ok, cool.

So does it all work out in the end cost wise etc?

hhmm....

It never used to be free.

I remember something about R250 in the past.

Interesting.

Yup, vitality.

I am def going to register now.

Pity I cant use my old results.

Or can I?

Used to be R120 per year but they have done away with the fees now.

You can submit events for last year but then you have to pay the fee for last year. The will accept any results for the last 3 months.

So it is not really worth registering for last year.

The site will give you the two options - choose register without submitting events for last year and ... for you Woofie ... for FREE!
