Hi , I am hoping someone can give me some insight here...

im currently looking for a new shock probably the rock shox recon gold rl

i see it comes in two options 100mm or 120mm travel. i am more of a weekend warrior although i do the occasional race.

would the 120mm offer me more comfort ?

what are Pros and cons of the two ?

Hopefully someone here can shed some light thanks.

More travel does not make it softer. It will still respond the same to the terrain. The 120mm will change the angle of your head tube and will make it more upright and comfortable. Those fork you can easily change back and forth between the sizes with a small spacer on the inside.

Thanks for the feedback.

I just assumed more travel means softer ride , but i see your point about it changing the angle.

i Have a Raleigh RMX.0 frame ,and am very happy with the way it feels and responds on the track so maybe i should think carefully about changing to a longer travel shock ??

from 100 to 120mm will slacken the head angle by 1 deg, this will affect the bikes handling.

if the frame was not designed for a 120mm fork, you will place unnecessary strain on the head set.

good possibility of cracking the head tube

Unless you make it softer by reducing the pressure you run it at (if it's an air fork), which you can do when you have more travel, without having it bottom out all the time...

Fully agree with the geometry issues though, especially seeing it's a HT.
