Hello all...

Been hearing rumours about the new KCNC mtb cranks not holding up under the recent harsh conditions of the Cederberg 180?

Was thinking of upgrading to a set, particularly in view of their obvious weight/price advantages - but now am having second thoughts...

Looks like XT it is.

Anyone else hear anything?

Thanks! Smile

I baught the "is it bearbone"??? from CWC and did the Epic on it.

And I'm still using it. but' date=' I'm technically challenged, so I cannot give you more than that.[/quote']

Thanks Popeye...

I'm "bicycling" challenged - so I have even less of a clue Wink

Regarding your crankset - that was probably last year's model?

From what I can gather - the cranks that gave the problems were all brand new, and were installed recently.

I don't have the faintest idea whether a 'new' model has come out btw when you bought yours, and these ones... - i.e. these might have been 2008 vs your 2006/7 cranks?

But if they are the same - then your experience would compliment other hubber's accounts of their experiences with the crankset - everyone I spoke to said they were great.

Now I hear this, supposedly said by a LBS owner, who recently started stocking/doing business with the KCNC dealers(?)...

So I'm wondering - either there is a new model out, and its giving problems (apparently 3/4 of them packed up) - or the LBS has picked up 'problems' with the KCNC dealer, and is now advising me not to take them... Confused

Feel like a one-legged man in a bum kicking competition...

Not sure what rumours you have been hearing. There are no model year cranksets, the only difference between them is K Type (outboard bearing) and ISIS. The only instance of query about a crankset was that the non-drive side arm started coming loose on a customer's bike and this was because the incorrect thread locker was used or in the first case not used at all. If you have any queries phone the agent Sean on 0827070110.

I've got about 1000kms on my set

a lot of rides have included mud and rain

The non- drive side came undone on the first ride, I wrapped some plumber tape on the retainer screw and re-fastened. I have checked 3 times and its still perfect.

I'm quite happy with it
