Just took an Edge 705 to Garmin to replace the screen ... easy peasy I thought, had a couple of scratches that made it difficult to read some info ...

"Sorry Sir, we don’t replace the screen, but we can offer you replacement unit ..." :cursing:

Various reasons that sounded like excuses. I cant believe this - can this be true that they don’t replace the screen?

If it is, I'm not getting one ...

Ag no.I want to get a 800 in the next few days but comments like these put me off.

How can there be so little (read: no) competition for cycling GPSs?

Yster, aren't those sealed units therefore they cannot replace any components, I know with the 305 it is the case...

Hint hint...why not ask for an upgrade to a 800 and pay a small amount in...if you can convince them of course

Unfortunately not mine ... :) but ja ... I was so revved up already when I walked in there ... didn’t think of asking ...

It could be a sealed unit - but what do one do when something brakes from a fall etc. Cant buy a replacement unit every time, and yes, if its the same with the 800 that has touch screen ... what then?

Maybe they bargain on you having to replace the unit in the case of you running out of talent...dunno

The up side is, if something goes wrong with the unit within the warranty period...you get a brand new one, or in the case of a friend of mine, an upgrade option to a 500 with a small pay-in amount.

Mine is specified under extras on my insurance policy...so maybe that it is the best bet...insure

Stick some VPS film on your next 705 screen. Then you can wipe the mud off without scratching the screen. Not sure if it will work on a touch screen though.
