Only in later years when it became a firm favourite did they start showcasing. Showcasing any new tour with very little publicity, public awareness and acceptance is risking the entire future and sustainability of that fledgling tour........ And the Eiffel Tower was only 12 years old when the first TdF was run and everybody hated it then because it spoiled the skyline of Paris. that is a very good and valid point! rather build a solid foundation before adding 'the cherry'
