It was 5 deg (garmin 500)at Calitzdorp Saturday morning at 06h10 a.m. It got colder like you say in the dips especially approaching the first feeding zone after Calitzdorp...just had to hold on I couldn't feel my hands and my toes was freezing up through my shoes...never mind my flipping ears. I asked the gent at water point how far is first guy(strandloper) he said an 1hr ahead LOL I thought i didn't hear correctly putting it down to the cold and sleep deprivation...only at prize giving i could work out time diff.

Still wrecked from last months riding....no more solo....2 x 4th is enough. Hooking up with a team mate. Talk crap all-night instead of strategizing...

OTEC 29ER hardtail - gearing 39 x11. Tyres SMB8 on front, fast trak on back, 2.5 bar 11kg = 2h53 Argus time max spd 68km/h P.S i never had to use the granny gear...we werent going that slow!

Thanks Spark for the kind words, Traut - the specialised had no chance againts the hardtail OTEC. 2h52....not bad, 11kg mtb with 2x fast traks and 39 x11 gear ratio,max speed 68, cadence max 126. thanks to the odd push and the kind words of encouragement and respect at the end...just 1 oke bitched " What the f###k r u doing in the bunch" turned round and smiled" to kick your arse" this was with 2km to go...i wasnt going to drop then! Why people still sprint from 40th position i dont know, 1 guy fell onto my backwheel so hard the wheel got smacked out the lugs, the front skewer got undone and I jumped over the handelbars running on the tar,had i wore road shoes i would have skated twrds the finish!!! I pulled my bike from the masses i saw the arm of a fallen rider stuck btw my fork and wheel,to the elbo...i almost got sick thinking of what could have happened if it was on the rotor side... eish!!! I WATCHED an aerial movie off the crash...just bodies everywhere...thnk goodness i had nothing to do with crash, the rants would have been endless!!!

I am the last **** to fall(over hndlbars and hands on the floor and up again) in that video clip. I cant remember the fall but now i saw why my shoes are ruined!! My back wheel got pushed out the lugs ...my front skewer was open and as i try to pull my bike from pile up i saw this arm stuck btw my wheel and fork !!!! the guys on my left engulfed me with the fall; i came to an abrupt halt,i was still aiming to miss the crash happening left and right to the front of me!!! we in 30th position with 400m to go,if they wanted to win the race they should have moved to 5th.I was doing 50 and my 39x11-26 x 28 was spinning out 110 rpm - p.s thats the gearratio i rode my whole Argus. Another thing that was upsetting was the tv crew, my god you cant drive in the middel of the bunch 3times at least, with your 1100cc bike with camera man standing doing 360 deg shots thats just plain dangerous!!!!

20niner, thanks for letting me use ur 10 hex allen key to tighten my crank arm. not all of us carry that and its not standard size on a multi tool!!! Much appreciated!!!
