  1. I'm thinking of getting the Rudy Project Rydon Clear glasses, but I'm worried that the lense won't get dark enough for our bright summer conditions. Do any of you guys have experience with these glasses?
  2. As far as the cheap ones go, only the Velo8 measures the speed accurately at speed > 40km/h. So if you're on a road bike don't get any of the other junk.
  3. Some of the prices on Take2 are completely nuts, e.g. they list a Garmin 305 for R13k!!!! Not sure if I trust a site that does weird stuff like that.Feltrider2010-01-02 05:55:21
  4. I just came back from a nice ride in the wind - felt like the Argus all over again!
  5. Cytomax: At the moment I'm an I seeding for PPA, but I only started doing the funrides about a year ago, so I think I can still improve quite a bit.
  6. Depends how old each of those is and whether you are talking about the whole group set or just some of the components. A lot of the technology "trickles down" over time, so you will find that new 105 match Ultegra from a year or two ago.
  7. Any word on whether they are going to organise group rides from there?
  8. Well I hope you end up pulling my bunch then CytomaX!
  9. I agree about the "falling away" effect - it makes me a little jittery sometimes!
  10. 8 bar definitely works for me and still happy with my 4000s's, but I've only done about a 1000km on them now, but they still look like new. I guess bad luck also plays a role in forming our impressions about specific tyres...
  11. BTW Weight Weenie - tyre liners don't work well on a road bike. The tyre is too narrow and the pressure causes the tubes to tear.
  12. I use the GP 4000S and they are definitely better than the gator skins. If you keep them at 120psi they don't seem to struggle much with glass and are also a lot easier to put on than the gator skins, as well as seeming to be faster (or at least smoother).
  13. It's one of thus "must have seen" movies, so don't think about it too much, just go and enjoy it.
  14. Need to ask Santa for one of those!
  15. The shorts that are chafing - are they First Accent by any chance. They had very hard stitching on their 2009 range that a lot of people complained about and fortunately they fixed that problem on the 2010 range.
  16. I guess no system will ever be fair in the sense that everybody is happy. As long as they are trying to improve the system and you can still climb the seeding with hard work we should be satisfied....
  17. So the trick to getting into the top 10 in you group is probably to start as far back as possible? Not sure how impressive it sounds if you came first in group XX though...
  18. Similar thing happened to me - I rode about the same time, but my index deteriorated substantially. I asked PPA about it the other day and apparently its got a lot to do with how many people rode the race that also rode the Argus, as they use the top hundred previous Argus riders' times as some sort of base for the calculation. So in short, although its not subjective, it certainly depends on a number of random factors that is unrelated to your individual performance. Feltrider2009-12-10 06:51:29
  19. Thanks for the tips - I'll definitely hit the summer fun rides hard. Should be able to pick the average speed up now that I have reseeded to a better start group. With work, training and social commitments I don't know how I'm going to find time for 10 hours of sleep though - I struggle to squeeze in 6 hours at the moment...
  20. If you did 3:05 in this year's "Argus of storms", sub 3 should be quite easy for you under normal conditions. Good luck!
  21. Does seem quite tough if you plot it like that! I have been hitting around 3 hours for the recent 100km fun rides and what's the point of setting goals if they are not (almost) impossible!
  22. Agreed
  23. Sounds great - I've signed up for the Sub 3. Its been elusive, but has gotta be possible!
  24. I agree that everybody should do their part to adhere to the laws. I just don't agree that cyclists should in any way be a priority for law enforcement in South Africa. I have had several incidents with taxi's and bad drivers in general, but a bicycle has never caused me any damage (the last time a taxi knocked me it cost quite a packet). I think the debate should focus on how cycling can be promoted as an alternative form of *safe* transport (cycling lanes, etc.) and not how to legislate bicycles off the roads. b.t.w. Hitler and facism is pretty much the same thing - the former is on of the main protagonists of the ideology embodied in the latter.
