  1. Is ASG still organising this race? The race entry fee that they wanted to charge last year (had the race taken place) was insane.
  2. So kremetart cancelled now...no title sponsor. Seems to be a trend this year.....first argus then letape and now kremetart..
  3. Just the lack of communication is adding fuel to fire from the organisers side. Not even an apology. The amount of money and time wasted and organisers (both local and abroad) just expect us to carry on with life. I think everyone should inundate the following emails with queries (these emails were from the article when L'Etape was announced in Oct 16) http://www.sabreakingnews.co.za/2016/10/14/tour-de-france-official-event-coming-to-south-african-in-2017/ L’Etape South Africa: info@letapesouthafrica.com PR contact: Caroline Malan – The PR Machine – caroline@theprmachine.co.za ASO Project management: lbochet@aso.fr and jarsicault@aso.fr ASO L’Etape Series press agency: emailho@milletunevagues.com and nguillemart@milletunevagues.com ASO’s media department: thida@aso.fr and araynaut@aso.fr
  4. So I just read that ASG has taken over the organisation of Kremetart. What is upsetting is that the entries this year (not sure if because ASG has taken it over) but has increased from R550 (last year's entry fee) to R950 this year!!! That is quite a steep jump (did they just jump on the band wagon because LeTape / Maluti is in that range?
  5. Three cheers to everyone involved in organizing the Kremetart - still one of the few very good races around with great atmosphere and good organisation - well worth the trip getting up there. A pity to see a drop in numbers attending. Was hesitant with the new start and finish area - but actually a great venue (just the short hill towards the finish line now makes it feel like an Mt Everest with tired legs after 175km).Was a bit miffed that one needed a licence now to race in the various age categories for this race - but it still worked out well in the 'Comrades' group - there was a good variety of talent so there was a variety of very fast, fast and kind of fast groups to attach one self to at each stage.Awesome weather at the start - finally no arm or leg warmers needed (pity about Sunday's rain, but hope the MTB still had a good ride)Was sad to see no Jungle Oats energy bars on offer this year after each stage and that on Stage 1 the truck with the bottled water only came as the 2nd Stage was starting and on Stage 2 lunch stop, i just manged to grab the last bottled water on offer (so not sure why water was under catered for this year), but thankfully the stop at Stage 3 had plentyBut otherwise was well fed on each stage, the beef soup is to die for, the pancakes makes the last 1km climb on stage 3 well worth it and the potjiekos was awesome - thanks to all the chefs. Thanks to all the locals lining up the finish area making us all feel like heroes at the end - the cheers, support and smiles... but also thanks to all the crew and paramedics and road rangers....Really enjoyed the comrade with all the cyclist.. even driving back home yesterday with a stop at the petrol stations, there was still smiles and chatting between cyclist ... a feeling we have conquered and survived!!
  6. trying to enter this race but category selection does not have Ladies or even Open for me to choose from, it only has EliteSub VetVetsMastersGrand MastersTandem anyone having the same problem??
  7. yayyy finally something in the souff of JNB... sounds like fun... im in
  8. Have not done this race in years and opted to do D2D this year as I missed doing the Race for Victory as i was away but never again... unless this race changes: R350 is pretty steep for what you actually get and still they wanted R10 for parking (which no one did eventually ask for when we left - but we had no intentions of paying this) Parking is horrible - cars and bikes were all dirty from the red dust even before we started racing Toilets were in the most disgusting state - saw a few cyclist retching from the smell and the conditions Not enough water tables or water sachets available for such a hot day along the route Getting to the finish line and making us go through the red dusty sand roads to get to the medals and coke table (no water!) It was a challenging route but really quite dangerous as you have all the high performance cars and bikers all out having their weekend runs. A few of our friends in the chasing VC group were taken on the wrong route by the Commissaire so ended up doing 127kms instead of 110 - this messed up the riders groups placings and time. Would not recommend the race to inexperienced riders, the downhills can be a bit dangerous if one is not confident, especially going down Hekpoort with the speedbumps at high speeds. It was a challenging route with enough climbs and wind to keep one entertained but definitely this is one race I will let pass in future if they continue with the current formula.

  10. Hi All We have a South African friend / family member (Justin Too) cycling the Race Across America (RAAM) as a solo cyclist that started on Tuesday raising funds to Fight Human Trafficking (his goal is to finish in 9 days). He has had some bad luck since Tuesday with bike breaking and his support car breaking down, but they still going strong. Please go and like his Facebook page to show your support - it would mean a lot to him (he does have American citizenship but chose to ride under the South African flag) https://www.facebook.com/A21AcrossAmerica?fref=ts For those who have never heard of RAAM: Race Across America (RAAM) is one the most respected and longest running endurance sports events in the world. RAAM is seen as a pinnacle of athletic achievement not only in cycling circles but the greater sporting community as well. ·Route: 3000 miles (4800km) 170,000 feet of climbing ·Crosses 12 states, passes through 88 counties and 350 communities This Ain’t No Tour RAAM is a race! But unlike the three great Europeon Grand Tours (Tour de France, Vuelta a Espana and Giro de Italia), RAAM is not a stage race. RAAM is one continual stage, similar to a time trial. Once the clock starts it does not stop until the finish line. RAAM is about 30% longer than the Tour de France. Moreover, racers must complete the distance in roughly half the time allowed for the Tour. More importantly, RAAM is not limited to professional cyclists. RAAM is open toprofessional and amateur athletes alike. While solo racers must qualify to compete, anyone may organize a team and race. Racers must traverse 3000 miles across 12 states and climb over 170,000 vertical feet. Solo racers have a maximum of 12 days to complete the race, with the fastest finishing in just over eight days. Solo racers will ride 250-350 miles a day, balancing speed and the need for sleep. To see the leaderboard: http://www.raceacrossamerica.org/raam/rcrank.php?s_N_category_group=1&s_N_Race_ID=1 Thanks
