  1. If you got the tyre seated then ride locally for an hour or two; you need to keep the wheel rolling for the sealant to close. If it does not seal, it is most likely that the rim tape is damaged.
  2. I paid R1,000 for a SERFAS FLR PUMP AIR FORCE ONE CANISTER from Cyclelab. It works however I now take my wheels in to my local mechanic to sort out as seating the TL5000 is a pain, and i have damaged the rim tape and decals in the past. My arms are not built for mounting tubeless tyres.
  3. Riders using speed sensors for power source shouldn't be allowed to race on Zwift.
  4. The climbing at 947 does not compare to the level of difficulty at SBR. 947 has largely short power climbs. If you managed to climb up all three big SBR climbs without walking, 947 should be a breeze. Descending at SBR is always an eyeopener. Try to do the small loops only, and focus on descending apex to apex- there is plenty room for error on the small loop. Once you are comfortable you can try the ‘supertube’ at it leaves almost no room for error. I also lower my tyre pressure when going to SBR, for more grip. I go to SBR a couple times a month but I always check the wind forecast for the east rand; any wind forecast approaching 15KPH is a no-no for me, as it is much worse at SBR.
  5. SBR is a brutal place, especially with the heat and crosswinds. Make sure your gearing is appropriate, as those hills can drain your legs quickly if try to grind up the hills.
  6. Batch FL- 06H36- was batch EL last year.
  7. FTP is critical for setting up the training zones however it is also valuable to know your 5 second, 1 minute, 5 minutes power, to work on your weaknesses / strengths.
  8. Not doing this race again. A couple of toilets for almost 1,700-2,000 cyclists is not acceptable. There were no road closures, not even partial, with the cars and coal trucks getting really close to us at times. Car drivers were driving on the wrong side of the roads pushing us of on to the yellow lane; there was minimal policing, only visible at the intersections.
  9. Agree. I prefer Zwift overall but the TR sessions are 'cleaner' than Zwift, and the data analysis on TR is very good. Erg mode is also instant on TR. Furthermore, you dont need an internet connection to train on TR, which is a huge plus for me. I have a coach so I dont use Zwift's workouts, as my workouts come via Trainingpeaks into Zwift automatically and I use Training Peaks to analyse my workouts, progress / peaks, and monitor my fatigue etc. I am not sure about the quality of the data analysis on Zwift.
  10. I used TR for a year. TR is very good for pure structured training, and also works offline and seamlessly but is very boring. The weekly podcasts / youtube videos are however excellent. I do four structured indoor sessions a week (Tuesday to Friday), and it does get tedious on TR. Zwift helps forget the pain. I also think having 800 plus training workouts, as TR has, is an overkill. I considered Sufferfest to replace TR but the 4DP test scares me. Its not something I want to repeat every few months.
  11. Ever since the last Zwift update (for the Watopia Desert expansion) erg mode has started to lag excessively (20-30 seconds lag) on my Kickr 3, especially when riding at high cadence over 100 rpm. Has anyone else experienced this? For now I 'pause' the workout and then press 'play' to ensure that erg mode 'kicks-in', but this messes up my cadence going into a zone 5/6 interval.
  12. Depends on how strong you are. For first timers I always recommend doing reps on the short loop (10 kilometers) until you know you're strong to complete the full loop. If you find the first climb from the parking lot a major challenge (takes you more than 15 minutes) to complete then maybe skip the full loop and ride the short loop, as you cant turnaround once you're in the big loop. Cost is R50 (for the car and one person). Two bottles are sufficient but carry a gel.
  13. Definitely not but some people ride down the first hill after completing the big climb; they cant continue hence I always expect people descending the first climb from 09H45 onwards.
  14. You can also ride the short loop, which is approx. 10 kilometres and 280m of elevation. I prefer it, when riding solo. Also, that downhill section after the first climb is a great place to work on technical descending skills. Lots of fun. I do the short loop 5 times.
  15. SBR still open; I go there every Sunday. I only ride on the road but the surfaces are good, with 3 proper climbs. Watch for the crosswinds.
