  1. This was a post to the Adventure Race Community if you are interested: Dear Fellow Cyclists As you are aware, safety is an issue which is uppermost in the minds of all cyclists. The Central Gauteng Cycling Committee has been working closely with the Gauteng Department of Transport on various projects to improve the safety for cyclists. One is the approval of road signage which will be provided by the cycling community warning of the presence of cyclists on various routes. The other is cycling specific lanes in certain areas. Whilst there is much work to be done, we have the opportunity to once again raise awareness of the issue by supporting the MEC of the Department of Transport during Car Free Day (20 October 2006). The MEC has specifically agreed to the involvement of cyclists as part of this project and will himself ride a bicycle through the city centre together with as many cyclists as we can muster. Two groups will depart between 8.00 a.m and 9.00 a.m and cycle under Metro escort to Park station, one from Southgate, the other from Fourways mall. The combined group will then depart from Park station and ride, led by the MEC to various points in the city. Thereafter the groups will once again split up and return to their starting points under Metro escort. We need your help to make this a success. a.. I will be there, see if I can do better than my last 100km MTB race (Karoo to Coast). See that my "seeding" is %A. moonlight2006-10-09 08:29:49
  6. This will be my 10th, did not enter yet but my SAA ticket is booked.
  7. The wind was blowing us apart, I lost the bunch or rather the bunch got rid of me after 60km and I finished in 02:47:??, but nonetheless I enjoyed it very much.
  8. I saw this in the RoadbikeRider newsletter, what is it and what does it look like. Is it a necessity for us fun riders, and will it work on a MTB. "More than one rider has complained that the chain winds up on the bottom bracket shell too often. Fear not, because there is a solution that's low tech and easy to install. It's called a chain deflector. Its job is to guide those flying links to their intended position on the small ring. There are two deflectors that work really well. The Dog Fang (my favorite, about $15) is made by Deda Elementi, the Italian company renowned for its light and strong handlebars and stems. There's also the Jump Stop ($12) made by N Gear"
  9. Slowpoke, serious hillclimb will be of no advantage for me at this stage. I am going for an operation on Monday 15 May and will be off for 6 weeks.
  10. I'll meet you somewhere on the road to Magalies, want to take the MTB up Hekpoort on the gravel.
