  1. I just got back from my LBS with my bike! Thanks to Christo and Harry of Metro Cycle Works in Vanderbijlpark. Here is a pic from my cellphone's camera:

  3. Is there any Hubber out there with something similar? If so, what is the opinion on it? I see that the groupset is a Sram X4. I do not have any experience with Sram, so I do not know what to expect. Should I be concerned?
  4. I am as excited as a 14 year old boy on his first date about my first "real" MTB! I will be picking it up hopefully before the weekend. It is a Cannondale CO2 series F7. Here is a pic from the website, but mine will look exactly like this, but will post an actual pic when I get it: steynja2008-11-12 10:56:04
  5. We do not have a daily 60 minute quota.
  6. Metro Cycles in Vanderbijlpark. Contact Christo at (016) 933-3187. I think that they have specials on the whole Mongoose range.
  7. Sasol, my employer, makes use of a program called websense. AFIK that program is absolutely failproof. If I try something like V Tunnel as mentioned, a message just comes on in your web browser informing you "The Websense category Proxy Avoidance is filtered" and then you cannot continue. We also cannot access sport, religion, political parties, motoring, job search, social networking (like Facebook), peer-to-peer downloads, hacking, personal websites, entertainment etc. I can carry on, but I think you get the point. Sasol has this weird policy that you have to actually work during the day. Also your line manager get a monthly report of all your online activity which includes the amount of internet traffic you generated, the names of the websites you have visited and the total time you have spent on the internet. One of the more serious offenders once spent a total of 35 hours of a 40 hour week on the internet! Needless to say his service was terminated.
  8. For those lucky people with a Garmin Edge, I see there is a firware update available. Get it with the Webupdater. Changes from version 2.40 to version 2.50: Implemented change to allow the user to access Map Setup option for tracks which will allow showing that track on a map, and what color to display it in. Added ability to set Off-Route Recalculation behavior in Routing menu. User can set it to Automatic, Off, or Prompted. Fixed issue with long routes shutting down. Fixed issue where Autopause and Start/Stop were not getting saved into the History files. This could also cause Courses created from this History to not register these times. Fixed issue where History files would occasionally not upload due to misaligned data. Fixed inaccurate elevation when moving to and from areas with distinctly different altitudes or atmospheric pressures. Fixed random elevation spike in the first few track points. Added the ability to delete tracks. Fixed issue where speed would drop to 0 going through turns. Fixed issue where viewing a Course on a map went to the wrong location. Fixed barometer initialization issues in situations where the unit is turned off and back on within 5 minutes in the same location. Fixed issue with Course List where actions could be applied to the wrong Course. Fixed issue where course guidance lines were drawn on top of roads. Fixed issue with repeated Autopausing when using a wheel sensor. Fixed issue with creating a Workout with Spanish language selected. Improved German translations.
  9. Does anyone have any comments or opinions on this MTB? I can get a 2008 model, brand new, for R3280. Or should i let this one go and look further? Here is a pic from the net.
  10. 2002 = YY17753 2003 = N6731 2004 = S8078 2005 = N8221 2006 = K7056 2007 = Did not ride due to knee operation. 2008 = R10486 My seeding has gone AWOL!
  11. There are "ways" of getting the South African map on a Edge 705 which will cost you at the most R99.00.
  12. When my father was teaching me how to drive back in the late 70's, early 80's I was told that "you use your flickers as an indication of intent, and not of action." I still hear those words from my late dad, and I still abide by them.
  13. Thanks Skye! My next time will most probably be with the Argus, so I will deffinitely will have to bring my bike.
  14. Thanks, yes I did win a membership on Supercycling last night Now I only need to win a helmet and cycling glasses, then I would have won a complete cycling kit. Some time ago I won a Silverback road bike in the Bicycling mag for letter of the month, then I won a pair of Shimano cycling shoes for the Reader2Reader tip of the month. Now it is the membership and cycling kit! I am a bit of a competition freak, and cannot resist entering competitions, because if you do not enter, you cannot win anything. I did win ?R8500 in the lotto once, but the big one still eludes me. I have been on TV game shows (Noot vir Noot, Flinkdink, Blitsvinnig, Doen met 'n Miljoen, Sporting Chance, Goue Kennis spel etc) about 8 times by now. I have won amongst others a Weber Kettle braai at the lucky draw at a race, I have won a TV, video machines, kitchen appliances, cash, electrical powertools such as an angle grinder, drill etc. I will keep on entering hoping for a big one such as a car, lotto jackpot, overseas vacation etc. Have you ever won a set of Campy Brake Blocks

  16. Andrew, thanks for the very civil and positive reply. It just goes to show that you are a true gentleman! I have responded to your PM and have sent you an e-mail. I promise that I will visit your store in Fourways as soon as I have an oppurtunity again. With the price of fuel these days it will be diificult to predict when this will be. Again, please accept my sincerest apology for my inconsiderate way of approaching this matter.
  17. I am slowly beggining to regret that I ever stared this thread! It never was my intention to "bash" cyclelab at all. I was merely trying to air my dissapoinment in Cyclelab, because I was expecting this great emporium of cycling goodies. This was however not the case. I quite accept the fact that a store cannot always have everything on hand, but if the pitch line for a bussiness is "The experts in cycling", I would then only expect the sales person to inform me that the item I seek is not in stock, and should I wish so he would source it for me. Andrew, I do sincerely apologize if I have approached this matter in an improper or unfair way.
  18. Turtlek, thanks for the offer! I will however first have a look at why my LBS in Vanderbijlpark has to offer. If I still do not come right, I will take you up on your offer. Just as a matter of clarity, this is what I am looking for. As you can see the brakes are almost brand new. The one on the left is the one that was still attached to the caliper and the other one actually onle needs a spacer, washer and a nut to tighten everything to the caliper.
  19. Whoa everybody! I am not trying to bash Cyclelab at all. I come from the Vaal Triangle where the cycle shops are not quite as large as Cyclelab. I was merely commenting on my first impression of Cyclelab, the same as any jourmalist would have done whether he is a food critic, motoring or lifestyle critic. I have the utmost of respect for Andrew because in my opinion he has done more to expose cycling to the majority than most. I am even considering joining the Cyclelab cycling club! If I do not win a membership as seen on supercycling this week, I will most probably do so of my own accord. I am quite sure that Andrew is man enough to take my critism in his stride, and look into what can be done to rectify or improve the situation.
  20. Before I get to my point, just some background. We went on holiday to Mount Amanzi near Hartbeespoort dam for the September schooll holidays. I took my bike along to do some LSD's, but nearly had a terrible accident. When I came down on one of the long downhill's my front brake block came loose, wedged in between the fork and tyre, cut the tyre and eventually got out and got lost in the long grass. I could noy find a decent bicyle shop in that region, so I decided to stop at Cyclelab on my way back to Sasolburg. This would then be my firt experience with Cyclelab. Maybe I did not look as if I had money in my pocket, because I was still dressed as if on holiday (khaki pants, shirt and sandals), but it took a long while before someone attended to me. I tried to get new brake block for my Campy Veloce brakes. In that whole shop they only had a few Shimano Dura-Ace pads, a few V-brake bads for MTB's. The migthy Cyclelab could not help me with a simple item such as brake pads! After a while the young lad whom tried to assist me came back with a packet of replacemet pads which he found after rummaging somewhere at the back. I did tell him I lost the whole brake block that screws on to the caliper, so I do not know how he thought I could have made use of only the pads! He did not even offer to try and source it for me. I am glad that Cyclelab is not the bike shop closest to me, because if it had been so, I sense that I would have had a lot of frustrated montents in that shop! I did however see Andrew McLean in the shop, and had I known it was his birthday, I would have walked up to him to congratulate him on his birthday, but also informed him that he is running quite low on stock of basic parts. Happy Birthday for yesterday Andrew. Bottom line, I am still looking for brake block for my Veloce brakes! steynja2008-10-08 12:08:25
  21. My available budget for a bike carrier took a turn for the worse, so I will not be getting a Thule Ride On at this stage. In order to enable me to transport my bicycles for the interim period, I have decided on a Raleigh branded 3 bike carrier similar to the Thule Hang On for R600. Mr. Brandon Els, you will hear from me if should something go wrong! It actualy seems quite sturdy. Here is a picture of how it looks on my car.
