  1. Further info: In October 2004, regulation 207(2) of the National Road Traffic Act, 1993(Act No.93 of 1996), became effective after being passed three years earlier. The regulation orders the compulsory wearing of a protective helmet that is properly fastened and fitted while riding a bicycle or being carried as a passenger.
  2. I am not disputing the fact that it is much safer to wear a helmet. It is just that I have been asked by a colleague regarding this matter. He wants to contest that rule if it is not part of the road traffic act. I politely told him that he is a numb-nut for not wanting to wear a helmet, but he is the type of person that also does not wear a safety belt when driving. Specific references/links would be appreciated.
  3. Can anyone shed some light regading the current legislation about wearing helmets when cycling, including ordinary commuting to work and back? The company I work for will be prohibiting access to bicycles from 1 October 2007 if the rider does not have a helmet on. Is the compulsory wearing of a helmet part of the road act?
  4. What is the hubbers opinion on the optimum position for the brake levers? Should they be pointing upwards and look like "bokkie horings", or should they be more level and follow the line of the handlebar? Or is it just a matter of personal preference?

  7. I can get these wheels for R1399 to use if I upgrade my Silverback to the Campagnolo Veloce 10 speed groupset. Does anyone have any comments on it? Here is a picture of the wheels.
  8. After reading the most extensive feedback on my question as to which shimano compares with which campy, I now have another question. I am neither a die hard campy nor a shimano fan. I wanted to upgrade my mix-n-match groupset on my Silverback to a 105 10 speed. However, I can get a 10 speed Campagnola Veloce at Solomons in Pretoria for R1999. I can save more than R2000 if I go this route. My problem is that the groupset excludes the hubs. Would I be able to use my current Shimano WH-R500 or mybe the Shimano WH-R550 wheels on the Campagnola Veloce groupset? Or will I be forced to get new wheels? If this should be the case, then I will just continue to go for the 105 groupset. What other compatibility issues might I encounter, that I am not aware of?
  9. I presume there is a hint of sarcasm in that reply, but here goes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lance_Armstrong steynja2007-09-06 08:14:13

  11. Solomons in Pretoria North selling 2006 Velocce for R 1999.00 vat incl This was one of the reasons why I asked this question. I am planning to change the groupset on my Silverback to a full 105, but I will save quite a lot of money if I take up this special offer.
  12. I know a lot of Hubbers will come up with a lot of arguments, but I would like to know which Shimano groupsets are supposed to be in line with which Campagnolo groupsets? I must confess that I am not verry knowledgeable about the Campy range. For example, with which groupset is the Veloce supposed to compete with? Is it with Tiagra or 105? steynja2007-09-06 08:10:43
  13. MichH, I can relate to your frustration. The company I work for are making use of a product called websense. I can assure you, it is impossible to bypass. I am also restricted to the Hub after hours, but with me being of due to my misfortune. I can play around on the Hub while I am at home.
  14. Tomorrow at noon ie 12:00.
  15. So, who will be sitting in front of their PC's waiting for the clock to strike 12:00? I know that I most certianly will be!
  16. I think that I should take a bullet for Christo of Metro Cycle Works in Vanderbijlpark. He is more up to date and informative than most of the people I have talked to at some of the bigger cycle la.., I mean shops. He knows his specs, products and latest technology.
  17. Maybe I should upgrade my Raleigh RC4500 with a 9speed Tiagra/105 combo to the 105 10 spd.
Ek dink 'n bietjie fisio is my voorland. Hopelik is ek gou weer terug in die saal.
  19. Thanks for all the inputs so far. I am not even back on my bicycle after my knee operation, and I am already thinking of upgrading my bike! I cannot bend my knee sufficiently enough to get on a bike. My wife thinks I am crazy.
  20. Steynja, check with your LBS what an Ultegra gruppo will cost. According to CWC their price is R5200 which is only R500 more than 105. How much of a difference is there between the 105 and Ultegra? Will it be easily noticeable?
  21. I am planning to upgrade the groupset on my Silverback Monterey from a mix-n-match groupset to a full Shimano 105 10 speed. I was quoted by my LBS a price of R4600 fitted. Is that a fair price? I must add that it excludes the hubs, because I am keeping the Shimano WH-R550 wheels. The mix-n-match groupset consists of a Tiagra front and rear derrailleurs and STI's, Suntour crank and Tekra brakes.
