  1. I must be extremely lucky, because I have not had a single problem since everybody else started reporting it. I am using IE ver 8.0.6001.18702, Nod 32 (definitions up to date), Firewall turned on, SuperAntispyware (definitions up to date). Just scanned my complete system again with no errors reported. And, most important of all, KEEP AWAY FROM DODGY WEBSITES!
  2. Mine is still working perfectly and also have not had any virus problems. Maybe the virii haven't found the Free State yet!
  3. I think that you really have to pick me. I am a slow cyclist, so you will have plent of time exposure. I am also one of the few hubbers in the Vaal Triangle, so I will also be helping in promoting the brand locally. I have advocated the use of the Whasp gells ever since I first read about it on the hub, and I also took the time to go and say "Hi" down in CT at the Argus Expo. I purchased the green gel, which now is my favourite gell of choice. After my knee operation I now need all the help I can get, and this probably is the best option whilst still staying legal. Anything better will be frowned upon by UCI and WADA.
  4. I once helped a lady cyclist that had a flat on an early morning ride over Ertjiesberg. she changed the tube and proceeded to inflate it with a CO2 cannister. This did not work so I offered to use my good old faithfull hand pump. Me trying to inflate the tyre (which had a "snakebite", which we found out later) she then said "Jy moet vinniger pomp, did word nie styf nie!". Realising what she just said she tried to avoid my eyes for the rest of the ride.
  5. I once was out on an early Sunday morning ride. My brother-in-law phones me (car trouble) on my cell phone. I let it ring for a while whilst I decide if I should answer, and eventually doing so. I answer while I am huffing and puffing and pedalling merrily along. After a lenghty silence my brother-in-law asks in a very apologetic voice "I am not disturbing anything, am I?" I nearly fell of my bike from bursting out in laughter!
  6. Contact John Freeman at 011 763 1410, He used to build Exocet Bicycle frames and Tandems. I am not sure if he still does.
  7. Hi Frenchy, Did Mrs. Frenchy perhaps start in group QQ? If so, then it was her that I greeted at the start. She told me her husband was a hubber.steynja2009-03-14 13:09:15
  8. Here is my home made device to keep the traffic officers at bay.
  9. Not that I am aware of, but I am not familiar with Polar applications.
  10. If you do not own an Edge or Forerunner, these files will not help you a lot. After you downloaded the file corresponding to your target time, you extract the file, import it into the training center software and lastly send it to your device who will "keep pace" for you and inform you whether you are ahead or behind your schedule. steynja2009-02-19 12:52:18
  11. Durban - A high school pupil from Durban's Hillcrest suburb on Thursday broke a Guinness World record by covering the greatest distance on a static bike in 12 hours, Working Words spokesperson Sue Mills said. More..... http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/News/0,,2-7-1442_2472631,00.html
  12. The CRS file extention is created with the Garmin Training Center(GTC). The GTC is freely downloadable, but in order for it to run the first time, a compatible device such as the Edge305/705 must be connected to the PC via the USB cable. I have not yet found a workaround to get past this. After the GTC has been succesfully installed, you can import the course (*.crs) file.
  13. As I calculated it, this detour is exactly 1km longer than the old route. This would most probably mean that this years route is 110km.
  14. Just in case someone was wondering what influence the alternative route over Boyes drive will have on your expected time, here is some more info to put it into perspective. "Old" route and profile: Boyes drive route and profile: As you can see there was a height gain of ?12m on the old route and there is a ?160m height gain on Boyes drive!
  15. My loving, wonderful and understanding wife of more than 21 years! Why? Well, amongst other reasons, she got me this as a pre-birthday present! (My birthday is only in about two weeks time, but she said I must get used to it before the Argus!) steynja2009-02-12 10:27:30
  16. If I may add my 2c's worth. I only have the utmost of confidence in both Garmin products and Avnic. I have a 10 year old Garmin GPS12, which is still going as strong as when I first purchased it 10 years ago. I used this GPS mainly for hiking, but also as a back up to view time and distance on larger races such as the Argus and 94.7 to download the route from the GPS to view in amongst other Google Earth. A cycling buddy has an Edge 305 (same as me) and the cadence sensor's battery cover got lost during training. This was replaced FREE OF CHARGE by Avnic. They were under no obligation to do so, nor did my cycling buddy expect it of them or ask it from them. They just did it out of their own accord. But the reality unfortunately is that things do sometimes break. What distinguishes a good company from an excellent one is how they treat their customers when this unfortunate breakdown happens, and I think this is where Avnic most certianly scores the most points. Within my circle of friends and colleagues I have only heard good and positive feedback in their dealings with Avnic. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for some of their agents. In most instances it is they who are giving Garmin/Avnic a bad name and reputation. Sometimes they are just too over eager to make a quick sale without fully explaining the potential customer the capabilities and shortcomings of a particular unit whether it is a Edge, Nuvi or a hand held unit like the Oregon etc. They tend to forget that the general public sees them (the dealers) as the "experts" and should be conducting themselves as such. I am quite sure that AfterDark will see that this is in fact the case when he takes up Jason's offer to contact him personally. I have also unfortunately experienced a problem with my more than 3 year old Edge305 in the sense that it seems that the screen is dying on me. I am however very confident that when the time comes for me to take the unit in to Avnic for some TLC, I will be a satisfied customer once I have finished my dealings with them. steynja2009-01-26 14:36:08
  17. This lady should get a medal! Sory for the Afrikaans, but it was teken from the "Beeld " website Verskillende padre?ls vir motoriste en fietsryers Jan 14 2009 07:01:54:983PM - (SA) http://www.news24.com/Images/Beeld/Images/icon_print.gif Druk artikelhttp://www.news24.com/Images/Beeld/Images/icon_email.gif E-pos storie aan 'n vriend http://www.news24.com/News24v2/Images/tsp.gif DisplayDCAd('220x120','1',''); < = ="http://ad.za.doubleclick.net/adj/P4306.beeld.co.za/Opinie/Briewe_articles;sz=220x120;posno=1;kw=;artid=2453230;tile=3;ord=7171755547578759?" Natalie-Dominique Louw, Wonderboom-Suid

  20. Is this a Santa story or is this remotely true -- ? Yes it is true. But then you will have to contact the smaller towns, which will be places like Koppies Heibron or Vredefort. These are just names of towns arround Sasolburg that I know of that locals go to for their licences. A fellow worker made an appointment for his son in Koppies last week after failing it here in Sasolburg for the 3rd consecutive time. He got an appointment for 2-3 days later, and his son got it there the first time.steynja2008-11-19 11:14:06

  22. I do not know whether this been posted earlier, but I just saw this on the Beeld website. http://www.news24.com/Beeld/Suid-Afrika/0,,3-975_2428020,00.html Walter Hein (85) completed the race in 4:15! I think that is absolutely amazing. I will be so happy I can do something like that at such an advanced age. My hat of to him. steynja2008-11-18 12:52:13
  23. As it stands there, R6095. I think I got a very decent deal.
