  1. Have look over here in the meanwhile: http://www.cateye.com/en/manuals/66 I see that the Mity 2 is listed there.
  2. What model Cateye is it? I have a few PDF manuals for some older models lurking somewhere on my pc which might help.
  3. I purchased my Edge 305 about 3 1/2 years ago from another hubber. I served me almost trouble free this whole time I had it. The only problem that I ever had was that pixels were going dead on the screen. For R2300 pay in I upgraded to the Edge 705. I always kept my 305 up to date with the latest software using Webupdater. From experience with cycling buddies who also have the Edge 305, small stupid things like corrupt data can also create lock-ups etc. on the device. Besides regularly checking for updates using Webupdater, I also regularly cleared the memory after transferring my rides to Training Center. I also follow the same philosophy with my Edge 705, and have also not had any problems whatsoever. steynja2009-09-21 10:10:56
  4. I believe in using Prepsol. It's the pink stuf that you can buy an a 5 liter container at your local spares shop. You can use it undilluted and and is environmental friendly. If you spill some of it on your grass it will do no harm. steynja2009-09-19 14:41:57
  5. Reset your unit by pressing the "Mode"(reset/lap) and "Power" buttons at the same time.
  6. I already mentioned this one about two weeks ago! https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=60207
  7. Thanks for the reply Johan. Me and a colleague at work who also is a cyclist, had a very heated debate over this issue. He also insisted that since he changed from the 175mm Ultegra crank that came with his bike to either a 172.5mm Truvativ or a FSA crank his performance improved remarkably. I told him that it was all in the mind and that he only needed justification for the thousands he spent aver being duped by an excellent saleperson! He did not take too kindly to my comment! steynja2009-09-12 09:48:24
  8. Johan, Will you please read my post regarding the crank length and tell me if I am completely of my rocker? Post over here : https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=60135&KW=&PID=899298#899298
  9. I cannot see the second-last picture.
  10. For those that want to learn a bit more about using and configuring the Edge 705, have a look over here for some cool instruction videos. http://www8.garmin.com/learningcenter/training/edge705/index.html steynja2009-09-03 13:22:28

  12. Personally I think it is mostly all in the mind, but I might be wrong because I am not speaking from personall experience. But, my reasoning is as follows. Calculate the circle that you need to complete to do one complete revolution. The formula for circumference is p x Diameter or 2 x p x Radius. The crankarm length will therefore be your radius of your circle. For a 17.25 cm crank your circumference is 108.38cm. For a 17 cm crank the circumference is 106.81cm. That brings you to a difference in circumference of only 1.57cm. I seriously doubt if you will really feel any difference. You might feel a small difference when you go from 17.0 cm (170mm) crank to a 17.5cm (175mm) crank, because your circumference now increases to 109.96cm, which equates to a difference of 3.15cm in circumference. Having said that, I might be completely wrong, so I am waiting feedback for the physics gurus. Johan Bornman, what is your take on this? steynja2009-09-01 12:21:18
  13. Yes, and have been doing it for close to 25 years now. But, to answer your questions, here goes: Unfortunately not far enough, only 9kms. about 15 minutes. Duh! I get wet! No, I do not quite work up enough of a sweat. The younger generation usually come to me for cycling info. I have convinced quite a lot of people to take up cycling, including my 50 year old line manager! steynja2009-08-23 15:00:11
  14. Glad that Sport Tracks could read the data. Once you have succesfully downloaded your rides, manually delete the data from the Edge. After your next ride, try using the Garmin Training Center again. I am quite sure that it will work as it should. I have forgotten about it, but I also had the same problem, which eventually turned out to be a "corrupt" data file. Deleting the data solved the problem.
  15. Have you tried it on a different PC? Also, try using a different USB port, prefferably the ones connected directly to the motherboard if you are not using a laptop. You have also not stated what operating system you are using.
  16. I am not sure. I have a Edge 705 these days, but I seem to recall that I did not lose any data when performing a reset. a quick Google search bring up conflicting info whether losing data or not. I took the gamble when I was faced with a simmilar predicament, but regaining full use of my Edge outweighed the data that I may have lost.
  17. Try reseting the unit. Press the Reset/Lap and Start/Stop button at the same time. Or press Power + Lap for 10 seconds for a hard reset. Or try Lap + Mode then Power.steynja2009-08-10 05:41:18
  18. I would suggest you look over here: http://techdocs.shimano.com/ steynja2009-08-07 12:39:49
  19. Very interesting article on Health24: http://www.health24.com/fitness/Specific_Sports/16-2175-2182-2553,51765.asp
  20. I suppose it varies from person to person, but I would not recommend donating blood a few days before doing a race. About 2 years ago I donated blood 2 days before the race, and almost did not complete the race. I saw stars, almost blacked out and did not have any endurance or stamina at all. Since then I first look at the race celander before i go out to donate blood when i am due again.
  21. But, I feel kinda naked without it!
  22. What??????!!!!!!! You do not wear underwear under your cycling clothes???? NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOoooooooo............
  23. Make sure that your USB drivers are installed correctly. First ensure that the Edge is plugged into a USB port that you for a fact works. Right click on "My Computer" and then left click on "Manage". Now click on "Device manager". Expand this window by clicking on the square on the top right hand corner of this window. Check if there is any devices listed with an exclamation mark next to it. If there isn't any issues there, you need to ensure that your USB drivers are correctly installed. Get the latest USB drivers here: http://www8.garmin.com/software/USBDrivers_221.exe and install it WITHOUT THE EDGE CONNECTED. Once installed, reboot and then re-connect the Edge and see if Windows picks it up. If it does not, connect the USB cable to a different port. and see what happens. But, barring a device failure, I am sure that you will get it sorted. If not, report back and we'll take it from there.
  24. Johan, if I may make a suggestion. Kullula currently have a "Winter promotion" running. I have taken them up on this offer last year for our 21st wedding anniversary, and have done so again this year. It will cost me R2200 for me and my wife to fly down to Cape Town Saturday morning at 07:00 from ORTIA and land at 09:00, Imperial car rental for 3 days and 2 nights accomodation at the Protea Hotel Sea Point. Flying back to JHB at 17:00 and land at 19:00. Surely this will make it worth the while? I am also quite sure some hubber will be able to organise a suitable venue?
