  1. Ewep. I purchased my Garmin Edge 305 from him. That was even before I became a member of the HUB. I saw his add in the classifieds, and he delivered it personally right at my doorstep! When we sealed the transaction, he told me more about the hub and about all the loonies that frequent there.
  2. RodTi, As a matter of interest, have a look at this link: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30017 Sample pic from link
  3. For more information regarding the accuracy of a GPS device such as the Edge 305, go to this forum for more information. It is on the Garmap website. http://www.garmap.co.za/Forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2128&PN=1 steynja2008-04-23 11:32:42
  4. Just read this on the Beeld newspaper website: Fietsryers in Blue Hills in Kyalami by Midrand moet op hul hoede wees vir ?n bende wat na bewering in die gras wegkruip en fietsryers teiken. More on this link: http://www.news24.com/Beeld/Suid-Afrika/0,,3-975_2302452,00.html
  5. As a matter of interst, here is a larger image of the "incriminating" photo. I had to resize and reduce the quality quite a lot to get it from the ?4mb image file to under 100kb. Also, I would not want to post a good quality image so that someone can "steal" it and not pay for the image! The official photographers (Mardo Photos) put in a lot of time and effort to capture the event, so I would suggest that those interested visit the site and purchase the high quality images there on offer.
  6. My son was the photographer that took the original photograph. All that happend was that the Mr Price rider came pas Michelle, and patted her on the back and said to her she is doing well, keep it up! It seems that we are too quick to judge before we know all the relevant facts! I took the picture as posted by gypsy in the beginning of this thread, and cropped the relevant area. Here is the cropped image:
  7. For those interested, photos are available for viewing and to order over here: Thursday 27 March: http://www.mardofotos.co.za/viewalbum.php?aid=66 Friday 28 March: http://www.mardofotos.co.za/viewalbum.php?aid=67 Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 March: http://www.mardofotos.co.za/viewalbum.php?aid=68 There are quite a lot of photos, so the pages might take a while to load.steynja2008-04-07 14:32:25
  8. A great freeware utility to use as well, is XnView. Download it from here: http://pagesperso-orange.fr/pierre.g/xnview/endownload.html You can open about 400 different file formats and export to over 50 formats. Download the application and install. The install file is only 2.1MB. Run the application. Click on "File" then on "Open". Browse to the location where the image is that you want to resize. After the image is loaded, click on "Image" and then on "Resize". Now click on the top drop down menu (the one just below where it says "Standard size". Now choose 640x480. This should resize it small enough for upload onto the server. Your file size must be smaller than 100kb in order to be uploaded. I just resized a JPG image from the original 2.4mb to 82kb! The image is still large enough to be viewed on the forum. This is the end result.

  10. My eldest son, who works as a videographer at the local photographers Mardo Photo's, just told me that they will be capturing this event on video and photo's! They are leaving from Sasolburg tomorrow morning and will be there in time for stage one, which is a 21km time trial. Lucky bugger. This event takes place from tomorrow 27 March till Sunday 30 March in Harrismith. steynja2008-03-26 13:35:24
  11. Yep, for the last 25 years of my life! I started there at the tender age of 20 back in 1983, and last weekend I turned 45. Had a great day with Underachiever in the USA, which took me to Stone Mountain park.
  12. In just over two hours I will be leaving Sasolburg on route to Potchefstroom, where I will will be getting on the train to go down to the fairest Cape! I hope to see quite a few of you at the Saturday morning ride. I hope that all Hubbers get to do with this year's Argus as they set out to do, whether treating it as a funride as I will be doing this year, or if you go out to achieve a personall best. I will be checking back in on the Hub on Monday evening when I get back to see how each of you have fared. Ciao!

  15. Just to make sure we cover all the bases. Did you update both the Chipset (latest version - 2.90) and the unit software (latest version - 2.70)? Also make sure that these updates have installed correctly. It sometimes happens, and has happened to me, that these updates does not install correctly. Check on you unit what the current intalled versions is. Maybe one of the versions installed as version 0.0, wherby this needs to be re-intalled. Yoy can also try and gice your unit a complete hard reset. You will lose all your custom settings and ride information, so back up your data to training centre. If that fails there is one other button combo I know of to try. It does the same thing as the hard reset but it skips the prompt asking if you really want to clear the data. It can be hard to do, so you may want to try a few times if nothing happens. Press and hold mode and enter. Press power but do not hold it. Continue holding mode and enter for several seconds. If it works, the unit should power on and go through the initial settings wizard after you release the buttons. You can also have a look over here for more help: http://forums.motionbased.com/smf/index.php abd more specific fore the Forerunner 305 here: http://forums.motionbased.com/smf/index.php?board=60.0 steynja2007-11-11 00:15:15

  19. Three of my tips was published in the Rider2Rider section, and for one of them I have won the Shimano road shoes! For those that subscribe to the Bicycling newsletter would have also seen one of my tips, but unfortunately it was not published. But, I have won the bicycle for letter of the month some time ago! steynja2007-10-29 10:40:55
  20. From News24.com http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/News/0,,2-7-1442_2207995,00.html Riding a bicycle is cheap and affordable and could help people save money spent on car fuel and public transport, North West MEC for Transport, Roads and Community Safety said on Wednesday............ More to read in link.
  21. Tim Brink and colleagues, why have I not gotten my magazine in the post yet? I subscribed to get it before it hits the shelves, but my local CNA already has it and I am still waiting for mine! I have been a loyal subscriber since issue no. 2, but getting it late is happening more and more these days.
  22. I did the President Hyper race in Fochville on Saturday and did the 40km race in a horrendous time of 1:19. To my defence, this was my first race after my knee operation and I did not put in a lot of effort, and just did the race to see how my knee holds out. I am glad to say that my knee held out very well, and I think that I am now back in the saddle. Well, back to the race. Those guys of the President hyper did an amazing job of organising a great race and a few of the larger races should take a few notes! Jeremy Maartens won the 100km race. Here is a picture of my wife and my goodie bags packed out on our kitchen table. Each goodie bag had a total of 50 items in it! It almost looked our month end grocery shopping! steynja2007-10-22 11:59:49
