  1. Yeh a mistake is forgetting where you left the car keys, spending decades mainlining your own blood isn't quite in the same sort of league. Also, all these confessed dopers continue their careers at the same level but quit the dope conveniently 'years ago'. Yes, they seem trustworthy, don't they?
  2. Jeepers dude that's horrible, made me hartseer, also got small kids. My late brother once had an epileptic fit in his sleep and landed on a heater, his left hand ended up looking a bit like that. Thinking of Baz. Hectic situation. As others have noted, standing by for a/c details to send a bit of material assistance when the time is right.
  3. Must have been epic Patches, nice one. I need to see the country like that sometime.
  4. Nothing wrong with domestic racing. To make it in Europe, it is likely he'll need to break that pact with God on the doping front.
  5. I think we should do a whip around for Barry; with a setback like this, he is going to need a bit of help. If someone SA side can set up an account, or get his bank deets, that'd be grand.
  6. Ah no man. C'mon Barry, get yourself sorted mate, need your wit and humour back in Hubland.
  7. Awesome, good on him. Cycling can be a funny thing, when it becomes an obsession it can ruin your life or make your life.
  8. I'd a pretty interesting character myself after a breakfast of hard drugs...
  9. Summed it up perfectly WP, right down to the panic induced zigzagging
  10. The fans love the old dopers man, get with the program!
  11. Oh ja and some more ugly, although this is self-inflicted. Last Friday I went out for an awesome dive and evening fish under an almost-full moon. Beautiful. Then, coming back in over the Whakatane bar, a bit of cloud and rain drifted in, making it a hell of a lot darker than I'd anticipated. Crashed my boat into the rocks HARD, stuffed the lower unit on the motor, bent the prop and put hectic gouges into the fibreglass bottom. Hit it so hard I totally forgot that my hull is CPC rated (which means even if holed it won't sink) and went for the natural reaction of panic mode. Made it back to the ramp OK, with some serious zigzagging, turns out the boat wasn't taking any water. Thought I would be in for a merciless ribbing from my mates/all and sundry, but the chaps have been uncharacteristically forgiving on this one. Apparently it could happen to anyone. Damage of around $20 000. Thank goodness for insurance which even covers acts of stupidity. Good thing I am not an aviator, their experiences of 'controlled flight into terrain' tend to have more dire consequences...
  12. Pretty hectic. Either floods, earthquakes or bloody Australian ?? bush fires.
  13. Yoh Wayne hardcore - I stopped cycling for a few years after we got here, too, especially when the kids were born. And I ran my SA business for 5 years from this side, that time zone kek is absolutely no fun at all. But you know how it is, things will settle down and you'll be back on the bike for a massive comeback.
  14. Hub rules state that some dopers are OK, while others must be tarred and feathered and forever consigned to the dustbin of naughtiness.
  15. Very nice. Lake Tarawera is one of my favourite places...and I haven't been at all this year. Schwak.
  16. Yes you can - I did mine and am licensed to ride a mean machine. Which I did, briefly, before realising I am too old for that sort of dangerous nonsense.
  17. LOL everything that's wrong with cycling, right here. 'Ex' dopers still just as fast without the juice, welcomed back to the fold, and the hero for an event. LEKKER EKSE. And on an international scale, Lance and George and those okes still pull the crowds and people wear Hincapie clothing and he sponsors a dev team. LOL LOL and more frikken LOL and we all wonder how come the doping merry go round never stops, just keeps on spinning round and round, and everyone turns a blind eye to the garish great big smorgasbord of prancing horses and glitzy glitter right there in front of us and pretends it doesn't exist. 'Man is infinite in his capacity for self-deception' ja kiff okes.
  18. That colour though. Love my (black) S-Works, though it took some getting used to. As for the Spark, all that crap on the handlebars ;-).
  19. I've had Eagle XX1 for a while. 32 front chainring. It's pretty good - not enough top end though, for dirt roads or tar transitions, but on trails it is just about as close to perfect as you can get. The shifts aren't anything special; 3x9 SRAM XO RD arguably feels more precise - arguably, but not definitely. But the shifts are classic SRAM, click THUNK positive. I added a gripshit, as the SRAM thumbshifter is, well, **** compared to Shimano's one. The only time you notice the gaps in the gearing is when you are going fast, ie on the very small cogs at the back. When climbing, even the big shift from the 42 to the 50 doesn't feel big at all (and shifts as smoothly as any other). I found a hill locally which made 32x50 not enough - up to 31% gradient. I wanted to get off and walk, but had too much self respect even though nobody else was there. Bike shop told me the cassette costs around NZ$760. That thing gets pampered after every single ride.
  20. Looks nice. What's to stop anyone from whacking 27.5 wheels on any 29er? Surely it would just be a matter of changing 'em round and going for a ride. I mean, I whacked a 150mm fork on my previous 26 S-Works Epic and it handled like a boss with the resultant change in head angle, so I'm not going to buy the 'but it will affect the geometry' obfuscation argument....what do the fundis reckon?
  21. Doubt you will have an issue for the USA one Hayley...
  22. Schengen, I have no idea, but you'd probably need to ring up the consulate of the country/countries you plan on visiting and they are likely to point you in the right direction...highly doubt it will present major issues. Good luck!
