  1. What size are you looking for?
  2. I am of the opinion that the organizing cost is "fix" regardless of the amount of entrants. So why charge i.e. Xterra this weekend R300 per entrant + R100 late entry charge. No road closure needed. Rehidrate is the sponsor so they pitch with large quantity of drinks. So no need to plan for 5 or 5000 athletes. they do it anyway. Comrades marathon charges +- R200. Great goody bag, Excellent water stations. etc. They get 15000 plus entries. Race organizers have seen this is a way of gertting easy cash. I think this sticks. Was gonna race tomorrow but now.... me thinks not.
  3. I think we can all club in next year and have a professional sports photographer take pics, place them on a site and we buy direct from him. No one can stop anyone from taking pics.
  4. I dont know if i want the pics cause the finishing time on the banner at the finish is the time of the elite's and we started 15min behind. Not very bright then of them.......
  5. Some lead ....... Others follow..... Cannondale for life!!!
  6. AT the end of the day CRC and CWC is still half the price of all the LBS. So i know where i liek to shop and the price is GREAT
  7. Spot the cyclist on the beach. its the guy with the k@k tan. so only one way to get rid of it. wear a budgy smugler (speedo) with arm adn leg warmers.
  8. I think 99% of the hubbers on here are not unreasonable people. We are not nazi slave drivers. So Francois, i honestly dont expect anyone to work on Christmas day or any of the others. That is a choice at the end of the day. Do they want to work or don't they. I always feel sorry for the poor guy behind the counter working away while all his buddies are out having a party. For some people holiday is a luxury. For some a must just to bring home a half a chicken for dinner. So i would say let us not continue debating on if a shop should be open or not. Like one hubber said. we are debating service. Our comany has over 470 000 vehicles being tracked on a daily basis. if we do server upgrades, we do it at a scheduled time at night. with least amount of disruption. Guys like Specialized wants to make their bed and sleep in it. This is why shopping online is so nice and easy cause i know i'm gonna wait a few days. i know i can go online anytime of day. Ask yourselves the question, what if the hub or CRC or CWC websites are down for repairs. do we still rant an rave like we are doing now. Will waiting one extra day extend shorten your life by 10 years. Lastly, just cast your minds back 15 years ago, what did we do on a Saturday afternoon and sundays before the shopping malls pushed operating ours till 8 -10pm?
  9. LBS has no loyalty in SA. They usually tell the distributor that if you want me to stock your goods you need to give me a bike. have a look, the LBS owner only stock what they ride. So they only stock those bikes of distributors willing to give them something. BRIBERY AND CORRUPTION lives on in SA, VIVA!
  10. Well that is why Specialized open their own store in Melrose Arch. Doesn't make up for their arrogance though.....
  11. Well here is soemthing worth spitting at. From a distributors point of view: I would not deal through any LBS because: 1) they dont want to keep stock. they want consignment stock. 2) when they do order a few units, they want to pay on 90 - 120 days. WTF do i look like a bank. So offcourse i will charge premium price to support your coke snorting habbits. 3) if they just order stock for a client that will come pick it up 10min after you leave, they get paid immediately by the client and still say we are SO SO SO BIG bikes hsop and will pay you on 90 days. NO THANK YOU. i do not need the shops. I sell direct. i ship product over night counter to counter and the client pays more than 50% less for a product than LBS.
  12. One company i can commend on taking initiative is Omnico. They have their own website call www.obike.co.za So they offer some bikes or products from last season at a very reduced price. They do support the LBS but they can then "dictate"the price. Seeing that they are the ones carrying most stock. I wouldn't go and buy my Connoncale online overseas but some parts and equipment that is a clear rip off i no issues with. Maybe more distributors should follow in Omnico's footsteps. Go and check what US or EU prices on Cannondales are and look at the local prices. Cannondales have become far more affordable since they took over the agency. So hats off to them for taking the initiative. Oh and Polar HR monitors too.
  13. Hi Coenie Yes, I am on the net on most days and if you have to go and really compare prices with guys like CRC, you will see that the prices in SA is crazy. 10 years ago, i started an import business. I started Northwave shoes, Powerbar, Cube bikes, and a few other brands in SA. The price i bought stock at from the manufacturer was very low. I.E. top of the range Northwave shoe - My price R450 landed cost. Sold it to the dealers at R750 and they sold it for R1500. When i gave up the business and the brands were taken over by another distributor, the same shoes prices in stores shot up to R4500. Another I.E. I bought a pair of SRAM TT shifter from CRC (Cost R1100 - Local Price R2500). the bolt to install them did not want to release. SRAM SA (Cape Cycle Systems) refused to assist as they say it was not baought from them. Now the product guarantee says WORLD WIDE support. CCS did not manufactor it so they were suppose to support the product. Needless to say, i sent it back to CRC (Cost R80). one week later received new set. Total cost including headache tablets and trip to Postnet. R1180. Still way cheaper than local stores. Bike shops say they offer a service. to some extend yes, but i dont go and spend 2 hrs brouwsing through the shop to see what i want (and not see what they dont stock but just order). page through international magazines, go to the net and read up what will work for me. I have learnt how to service and build my own bikes. We can all do it, really not that hard. LBS also charge more for a bike service than most car manufacturers do????? NOW whats up with that?
  14. I Agree here. I bought a pair of Specialized S-Works MTB shoes from R&A in New York. Took the FedEx option that said 10 working days delivery. Received them in 4 days, paid import duties and VAT. Selling price at FPC or others in SA R4200. My price R2032 with all duties. In the US you can get deals where they include a Cervelo P2C or P3C, Plus helmet, wetsuit, shoes and race kit for the same price the guys sell the frame only for in SA. I import and only sell direct to public as the stores never have stock. They get their information ot "technical know how" from books or the net. So no point in charging premium prices for it. Will happily bank with CWC or CRC.
  15. For those going out to buy new shorts, check out this site. It Bernard from Orca's page for stock clearence kit. You could save R100's if ordered here. http://www.fluidlines.co.za/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=48&Itemid=55 He is based in CPT so make sure you have enough time for postage.
  16. Routjie Be prepared to chuck the shorts you will be racing in away. I raced in an orca short and the sand/grit that gets stuck in between the vibers of the material just never gets out, no matter how many times you wash it. So dont go spending large amounts of cash on a new suit. Also dont wear white/light colours. they will be an off white for ever.
  17. Doing the full. The mud was a killer last year. Did most of the bike leg with no saddle last year. lost the bolt holding the saddle. So this year i will check the equipment first. It will be a cool down race for me as 70.3 is more the focus. If the rain stays away its gonna be a quick one. will push for a sub 3hr.
  18. The problem now a days are most people are still looking for the next quick fix that they will pay any kind of silly money just to make theselves feel better. The bottom line is you have to put in the work and effort to get the results. No rubber, sorry rubber band, or weight loss pills, creams or Verimark product is gonna get you there. Get off the couch and just do it.
  19. Hmmmm maybe if it was run by a Nigerian, he would ask you for your bank details to give you a full refund. I'm just curious what the stores are gonna do that bought it. doubt any one would be stupid enough to give a refund as it was a choice purchase. But would the stores get refunds for stock returned????
  20. Thanks, Did the MTB 70km race. surpriced myself a little. managed a 3rd in a sprint finish between 1 - 3 rd place. a 2h48min was just what i needed
  21. Hi Guys, Sorry, seems i missed out. There is a MTB race at Hartenbos on sunday 26th (35km and 70km) starting at the Spar. At 7am. Should be a good one.
  22. Hey Tankman Staying at Santos Beach side. Did a ride with the bike shop. Was good, but i like to do a little later ride at say 6h30 instead of 5h30. It is holiday afterall. I did a nice ride MB - Grootbrak and up the big climb past Glentana. Then back down on the old MB/George road. was 70km on the dot. So drop me an sms if you want to ride tomorrow (24Dec)? 082 876 1234 Cheers
  23. Can anyone tell me if there are group rides taking place in Mosselbaai this holiday? Looking for a training partner or group to ride with from 17th - 27th? Please drop me a line Brett 0795196493
  24. Car Dealers just &^%% me off. My wife took her Peugeot 207 for its 30000km service 3 weeks ago. They wanted to charge her R5500. They said the battery is flat (yeah whatever) and the wiper blades needs replacement. These @SSholes see a female comming and rub there hands together. I told them i will replace the battery the day the car doesn't wanna start and will replace the wipers (R800) when they crack and break and dont work anymore. Think its tiem for Carte Blanche to start knocking on doors again.
  25. Maybe we should all try this and see how these cops would feel when you actually call the 94.7 crime line while sitting there. Leave the phone on while talking to the guy. ask for his name and number and get these fat slobs off our system and where they belong.
