  1. Yes, it does need some adjusting... B-screw, seems right. There is a bit more focus needed on gear selection, not to cross chain, but I managed to get my chain setup to the point where the slack is not too big an issue, but would not ride it in slack obviously. It takes some getting used to. One thing I did notice on mine... The bike had an unplanned, unmanned, horizontal spontaneous dismount. There was a slight bend in the hanger, which threw out the gears to a horrible degree. I think the extended reach has a multiplier effect if even out a little bit. I fixed it with the Hanger Alignment Tool, Park Tools have a great one, but the chinese ones will also work. So maybe also check the hanger, and it might help a bit. Yes, the design of the extender could be improved, but I think it is designed to be a flexible application as not all settings on all bikes would be done the same. I actually looked at this not too long ago, and thought I would like to take the std hanger and extender as a unit to an engineering shop and see if they can't CNC me one as a single unit... Anyone with connections? Also, last remark, mine runs without any significant sound; in fact, I would say the same as the original setup, but I also adjusted the front mech (on the original setup). Might come down to frame design and alignment? Doing a little trip this weekend. Decided to test the full rig setup. Will let you guys know how it went... (Spot the Moto bags)
  2. Right? I think the venue for the number of people was good, a lot of potential. But rather than it growing organically, it felt a bit forced?
  3. So... In absolutely no derogatory way... did some E-bikes catch up to the slower rear of the 65 pack. Just gonna say, the way they pushed some of the poor people out of the way, flying past on some sections, it did not look emotionally healthy... for them. One guy pulled past some poor girl in front of us, struggling up this hilly section, muttering abuse like Harvey Epstein on roids, all the way to the top. You could really hear him going at her.... and the image... reminded me of my baby girl throwing down her toys and storming off when she doesn't get her way. I'm not judging E-bikes, well, I do all the time, but more about people flipping out and passing others, that it looks like they are looking for third base, don't get their way, and bursting off in typical "ag siestog fashion". See, looks like Rage Quit.. Maybe there is a better term?
  4. Jajaja, but the big smoke is a bit of a drive for a night ride... ..(PTA/JHB)
  5. Just me.... or was the waterpoints... a bit.... Meh this year? And, what was up with the E-Bike "Rage quit" brigade? I mean... WOW! Your motor is impressive and all, but... just...wow...
  6. Must've been nice.... Wish I could be there.
  7. Awesome!! Hope it serves you well! Looking forward to the next trip, and the report back on the conversion.
  8. Hahaha, and... did a trip while back on the adventure bike, had a set of these permanently fixed to my pannier rack, or so I thought... got nicked at a camp, with my tooltube, next day.. flat.. oh Murphy you Bastard!
  9. I hear you, but hardly, if ever use it. The one time I did, I used a rim saver to protect the rim. IYKYK... (here is looking at the motorcyclist)
  10. Oh, also have one of these, but hardly use it.
  11. Always found Pedros good, *Stock foto
  12. So, I will honestly say that the 13+% Climbs still makes itself known, but it is easier. I thought about the XT cassettes for the conversion, but right now not regretting the bigger ratio. I'm aiming to do Suikerbos again this weekend... more testing... Sidenote. Also love the range I'm getting on the big chainring with the bigger rear ratio available. Now, looking for some Front Fork racks, anyone got some ideas?
  13. Hi, The conversion is actually easy. But, I did need 3 things. 1. CASSETTE KMC CS11S 11-50 HG - Evobikes https://share.google/fDCWpXQdTegAQa5fg 2. New 11spd chain. I got the 11spd SL from KMC. 3. Hanger extender. This was a bit of a question mark as I couldn't get the Goatlink. (More often mentioned). So I got a Chinese (?) Toopre 36 -52 range. Toopre Bicycle Derailleur Cassette Extender 34-52T https://www.takealot.com/toopre-bicycle-derailleur-cassette-extender-34-52t/PLID94410445 Removed the old cassette, fitted the new one. The chain... measured the new chain, max rear to max front... and the chain, out of the box was actually on limit. I choose to do the M on M method as to minimize risk of rear mech pull. Surprisingly I had some good leeway with the B screw adjustment. If you are unfamiliar with this, check on the Parktool YouTube channel, nice explanation there. My mech upper limit screw had some adjustment, but you can check movement yourself. Drive the mech to max with your hand, press the body inwards with your thumb, and pedal. You will see if it reach or is hesitant. If you push the chain off, adjust the reach to less. Cable tention on mine, took up 1.5 turns. The more tricky part... The extender adjustment... this might take some trail and error... i found that full reach forward, adjust B screw on 51t and it was set. Indexing is not the smoothest in the world, but it works. You have considerable spacing on the higher ranges(top pulley wheel to cassette), but, keep in mind cross chaining, and you should be good. Don't do Small Chainring - 11T... you will see why. I adjusted B for some slack, but keep the focus on the 51T spacing. I also have the 810 GRX Mech. All in my conversion was about R 1 800. I actually found the KMC cassette alast year on Takealot, think it was R 880 on special. See they have one for R 995. If you struggle, I would gladly do the conversion for you, but I think Pretoria is a bit far from you 😀 You can also send me a DM and I can walk you through the install if needed. Below, note the down angle and Mech attachment. I think this is the most crucial part.
  14. Did Suikerbos today... love the range, no issues. The 50T is bit much, but can see the usefulness. Also.. fitted the Pannier rack and tested the fit with my GIVI Moto bags... must say, looks like it will do the job.
  15. Just out of interest, anybody else out there that did this? I did not do this to target everyday riding, but bike packing trips and gear on bikes suggest I might want to make it easier for myself... So, here is some Post pics, quick ride around the block confirmed all working good, just have to keep an eye on cross chaining. 30-40 Crank, 11 - 50 KMC cassette Toopre extender Took some adjusting, but all good.
  16. We don't protect horses in natural parks. They do taste good though 🤷‍♂️
  17. Just a thought OP. Going back to the original post. You called for support citing a few things actually, but standing out to me was "disrupt the natural habitat". We can in all fairness deduct that invasive species is not the natural habitat, and calling it such is either really uninformed, or deliberately obtuse. Second, you are asking a group of people whom enjoy nature, arguably the best of South Africa's natural environment, on a weekly basis, to support your crusade. I understand that should this group or at least some, not support your ideals, you, in true aspiring bunny hugging fashion (stereotyping, delete if not applicable or offensive), will be offended, call on statistics reminiscent of early days chat GPT created woke masterpieces (confirm to my standard now, the world says you must!), and shake the rattle to the drums of war, and condemn us all for not agreeing to your petition. For the sake of argument, I hear you. I concede to your pleas. Let us not right the wrongs of the past. Yes let us scrap that word from our collected libraries, amendment. Let us not make corrections to what was once thought was a good idea. He'll, smoking was once considered good and healthy by medical professionals, to damn with the studies and research. Yes, to damn with the studies and research that surrounds this topic. You are right, in fact, why stop removing alien species, be that trees, birds, animals or just stupid opinions we all do not agree with. Heaven forbid we say something or make counter arguments which does not coincide with your own statements or believes. Standing now on both our shared believes, why stop. In fact, let us spare a thought on how we would approach a more serious matter. How do we get our common sense back after wasting so much time on this? Shall we start with a petition stopping the removal of the port Jackson trees that burns so nicely in the dry season, I recommend we start in Mosselbay, you can hang your "Save the fires, stop removing the braaihout" on the shells of the burned out buildings. Go do that, and one day, maybe your ignorance will catch a spark and you will realize that not everything in life is negative if it is an inconvenience, nor as serious as this post is not. 🤙
  18. Oh, And on wild animals (Not talking about J/Bay hangouts), do we all remember the great Rabbit and deer cullings on Robin Island, where non native species wrecked the local habitat? https://www.environment.co.za/wildlife-endangered-species/robben-island-deer-cull-on-cards.html
  19. Hi Demitri, I'm starting to think you really are just taking us for a ride, but Kudos if you are, if not, please remember, and this is based on my property alone. The Flora in my garden might be as diverse as our collective urban spaces, but I think your statistic here is still flawed, as for the Fauna thriving in said garden... One 4 legged mammal of German (European) heritage, and one very much Africanis (might have some Jackel in there... git this .. Weird tail hey).. but I digress, the statistics on this is more 50/50. But I would be remiss if I did not also state that my garden is not a national park. Thus, I do not think it has the same relevance or bearing as a state park or public open space.
  20. Hi OP, Yes, we all like forests in one way, shape or some variation thereof. I recall riding in Lebanon (Grabouw), and one day BOOM, all gone, or at least a section of it, and it was like riding in an Alien place, a barren landscape more akin to the surface of the moon than the lush shade-filled pine forest it was. But the reality is that we live in a water-scarce country. There is no getting around that. Artificially creating forest areas, which do not naturally occur, creates issues in the greater balance of our local biospheres. There is considerable evidence to suggest that natural water systems can re-emerge when alien species are removed. OP, you can look into the Overstrand, Working on Water projects, and the removal of alien species, and how they contributed to the restoration of once-lost ecosystems, rivers, and the impact in both natural and urban environments. Again, from an aesthetic point of view, yes, we do miss these forest trees and parks or plantations, but the argument to keep them is or should be outweighed not only by the natural benefit of removing them, but also by the long-term impact alien species might have. Far more interesting than any Pine, eucalyptus forest I have ever seen, or had the pleasure of riding my MTB in, is our natural forests. Maybe a more constructive initiative would be to replace these invasive forests with natural indigenous species. Think of our Cape Milkwood forests, Indigenuos forests in the Garden Route, etc. Yes, it will not be enjoyed fully by us in this lifetime, but it will hopefully be enjoyed by generations to come. I'm reminded of farmers who planted windbreaks, the impact of which would not have been for their use, but for the following generations, which can be seen around the world to this day. https://botanicalsociety.org.za/forests-of-south-africa/ https://grootbosfoundation.org/2022/11/07/the-importance-of-trees-milkwood-forest-edition/ https://www.capenature.co.za/news/2023/indigenous-forests-of-the-western-cape *Milkwood forest * Knysna Indigenuos forest
  21. Yesterday. Early. Serene.
  22. How much is the group entry, see they opened it up as a relay race? Personally I think it is a great idea. Looking forward to ending the race on a fresh max 150km stage! #recordsbebrokenyo
  23. Same... and also a few of my other mates did the same.
  24. Speaking under correction, but think it used to be arround 1800 zar ish when it started. Now 3500 zar depending on how we mess up our exchange rate on the day.
