  1. A questioned to the seasoned competitor. Would you go with clip-on tribars or without for 70.3? Did 70.3 last year without tribars but did full IM with tri-bars. With the nature of the course (hilly) i was thinking of going without tri-bars. Any thoughts?
  2. Keen on going back for my 2nd one. It just depends on how my run goes next sunday (70.3). I have been battling with the running due to injuries etc. If i have a good run, without any injuries I will go back and better my time Time running out though as I need to decide before end of Jan.
  3. I will admit, not a runner by nature. Having said that, furthest i had gone before 70.3 was 12km due to injuries. So the 21 on the day was my 1st half marathon ever. Legs felt fine (muscle wise), but joints and knees were sore, so i had to settle for a 2:24 run. Not great! Next year will be different, running is coming along and have done a few longer runs already! Then again, 'GSNieP' couldnt catch me on the run at 11Global
  4. I did a 3:01 bike this year, 1:40 out and a 1:21 back. Did a 2:58 94.7 (mostly solo), so that should give you an idea of the 2 different bike legs.
  5. Also, what is the idea behind giving red bull as a drink? i ended up not doing the event because of flu, but supported my wife. stood at the water station and almost veryone left full cans on the road? and then the far end water station ran out of water? just my 2cents! would atleast expect proper aid station on the run!

    2012 94.7

Will also be in D. hoping for a 2:45. Lets hope i get over my flu soon, been no training for 8 days
  7. Will be there! Nice race to see what your fitness levels are like before the 94.7
  8. Hi "uncle" Silverstreak. Thanks for the huge compliment! Christelle and I really loved the ride. Was nice to do a race, but in a way that reminds us again why we love the sport so much. We get so caught up in racing from time to time, that we don’t always appreciate the outdoors and the time in the saddle! We sometimes hardly notice people around us. Sunday was a day that i will remember for a long time to come.... My champions are Silverstreak and Henley (both older men)...which have taught me a few lessons in life while on the bike! See you on the road again!
  9. I agree with Total Immersion! no need for a swim coach once you have the TI technique sorted!
  10. How can we be sure what the truth is. Currently, it is all a case of he/she said and saw this. No proof that he ever doped. I am not saying he did or didn’t, but I am still a fan. From the following link….http://www.washingtonpost.com/lance-armstrong-faces-fresh-doping-charges-from-usada/2012/06/13/gJQAefnPaV_story.html The USADA letter further claims that Martial Saugy, the director of an anti-doping lab in Switzerland, stated that Armstrong’s urine sample results from the 2001 Tour of Switzerland indicated EPO use. Saugy told The Post last year, however, that Armstrong’s sample was merely “suspicious,” a designation that meant it could not be called positive. Further analysis with modern methods might bring clarity, Saugy said, but the sample no longer exists. “We did not do the additional analysis. It will never be sufficient to say, in fact, it was positive,” Saugy said in an interview. “I will never go in front of a court with that type of thing.” No, there is no proof in any of his blood tests. He was racing against the top triathletes at the age of 15….are we saying he was doping then? He is racing the top IM guys today….is he doping now? So why doesn’t the blood tests reveal it then? Are we saying that Usain Bolt is also doping cause he is a cut above the rest? Exceptional athletes come past from time to time…that’s life! Just my 2 cents worth……
  11. my personal opinion would be to focus on the technique, as this will help with your breathing.
  12. The total immersion course is over a weekend, but it is only a saturday afternoon (from 13:00 - 18:00 if i remember correctly) and then sunday morning (8:00 - 13:00). i managed to finish full IM swim in a decent time, with a total of 19km of swim training in the 3 months leading up to IM. i never swam more that 2.5km in my training...and i still managed the 3.8 (some say 5km ). Didnt have time to train like i wanted to, but i was still confident in my swim (and that i wont drown). it is all about getting the technique right, staying calm and not "fighting" with the water. Saves energy and your shoulders from fatigue. it is also about having the confidence.... i still think it is the best money i spent....hands down. tried a swimming coach, hypoxic breathing etc. nothing helped like TI. having said that, everyone is different and what worked for me might not work for you.
  13. I must admit Total immersion has worked for me. I used to swim 3 lenghts of a 25m pool and I would be exhausted. Went to the Total Immersion course and within 2 weeks i could swim non stop for 2km, without getting out of breath. Managed to finish 70.3 and Full IM without any issues this year, having started swimming last year! Sea was really choppy in PE, but i had the confidence before the start. This really helped me!
  14. i would be keen. When, where and what pace? did a 6hr ride out in the south on Sat, solo. company would be great
  15. It started of as a nice ride....with the bunch. However, my friend that i brought along got a flat and the bunch left us. Would not generally mind....but after almost being robbed i did not appreciate the fact that the guys dont care. Two minutes waiting would have cost them nothing....but almost cost us our bikes. Not on....and that after one of the guys wanted to stop and the rest just ignored his call to stop! if we kept the guys up i would say yes, but we stayed in the bunch the whole way. i know i would have stopped!!!! wanted to make it a regular thing, as cycling solo everyday is not great. but after this morning i might just as well go back to solo riding.
  16. Was thinking the same, but wasnt sure. Thinking to rather get the Addict, and just upgrading the wheels with the extra cash i would have spent on the foil????
  17. thats why i am considering the Addict as i cant get a good deal on it....but i have heard that the foil is alot more aero dynamic. will shop around a bit more before i make decision
  18. thanks, will have a look at them
  19. perfect, thanks for the feedback. Will be there from next week.... Usually go out at about 5:15 but solo. would rather go with a bunch.
  20. I am looking at upgrading my current bike....but not sure what to get. I am deciding between the Scott Addict R2 and the Scott Foil 20. I am currently also training for 1st IM, so triathlons is also something that I do. However, not totally convinced that i need to get a TT bike as it is only a handful events that i will use the TT bike in, but i do a lot of road race...hence the road bike option. The Scott foil is considerable more than the Addict, even though the specs are more or less the same. Aero dynamics obviously play a part with riding solo, so that is making me lean towards the Foil....but does the difference in amount justify it? Has anyone bought the foil or tried it out....any comments will help. Thanks
  21. Can anyone tell me what the meeting time is for morning rides in the south from cnr klipriver/swartkoppies during the week? Also, what is the pace during these rides? Thanks!

    IM70.3 SA

yip, actually managed to convince my wife to also enter....so we are both training. however, she wont even consider the full distance. which gives me more time to focus on my own training. really looking forward to it, as i will be doing my 1st ever triathlon next weekend. will just go out an enjoy it. How reasonable is it aiming for a 12hr Full IM in your first attempt?
