  1. Great ride, great food. Have to do it at least once. Practice riding in sand though.
  2. What a wombat! I am one of those fat cyclists that in fact came last on day one and three of the adventure. I may not be a racing snake but I had the guts and determination to push through and the applause we got crossing the line in Scottburgh after six hours on the bike was a very emotional. Don't judge too quickly......
  3. Thats exactly what I decided to do, don't want to take this risk, shed this race is turning out to be expensive!
  4. Got out of bed on the wrong side? The one asked a simple question and did not need to be blasted.
  5. After reading some of the comments about tires, I am now worried. I have the standard racing ralphs evo folding tubeless ready that came with my Giant X0 29er. Am I gonna have problems?
  6. These look exactly the same as last years profiles.....I am a bit confused
  7. Agreed....
  8. Brilliant, Gordon worked with me when he wrote this....seems like ages ago and now I am getting ready to start my first Sani. He convinced me to buy my first MTB and we started to train at Northern Farms. Never thought I would see this day, 41 years old and here I go........
  9. Not relevant to Van Gaalans but the last couple of times I have rode Breedts Nek, I have seen more than one cyclist bombing down the decent on the wrong side of the track.....
  10. Just taken delivery of my new 2012 Anthem X0 29er! Loved my 2011 Anthem X2 26er so keen to see the difference......watch this space.....
  11. I am a bit confused.......do we not get accommodation the night before the race? If not how far is the drive from JHB to the start?
  12. Where can we get the photos?
  13. Oh poo.....I have entered the second one in March. Have I wasted my cash? What was the route like, technical?
  14. Do members of the PPA not get preferential start times? If so what group is it?
  15. Hi all I recently upgraded from a Specialised Rockhopper Hardtail to a Giant Anthem Duel Susser. I am struggling with the seat height. I tried to match the seat height to my old MTB but obviously when I sit on the bike it obviously sinks under my current overweight state (soon to be solved). Would I therefore need to make the seat higher to compensate for the sagging effect of the rear suspension???? Thanks
  16. Thanks, you have hit the nail on the head. Is the Merida 96 more of a racer?
  17. There seems to be conflicting opinions on the 29er. Any other opinions on the Merida?
  18. I have had my Specialized Rockhopper since I started cycling about 3 years ago. I have also started road cycling and I must say I enjoy both. I bought a new road bike mast year so it is now time to upgrade my MTB. I have a budget of around R20k and would like a soft tail. I have been trawling the web for some time and cannot make up my mind. The Merida 120 1500 (2011 model) looks like great value in terms of group set, etc. I do not know much about the brand though. Any thoughts? The obvious question is what about a 29er? I am relatively short (172cm) and am told that these bikes are more for the taller folk. I love the Trek Gary Fisher collection HiFi Plus 29er (2011 model). Thoughts? Finally I would really like a Specialized Camber Expert but it seems expensivce for what you get compared to the above. I am not a racing machine by any stretch of the imagination I just want a decent bike to make the ride a little more comfortable and adding a little help on the climbs. WOuld the new 10 speeds help? Any advice would be great. Oh, and finally what bike shops still do trade-ins?
  19. Do both

Hi all Hubbers. I am posting this on behalf of a mate. If anyone comes across these bikes please let me know. B@stards! Hi All PLEASE PASS ON THIS MESSAGE TO ANYONE YOU KNOW THAT CYCLES!! THE MORE THAT KNOW THE BETTER!!! 3 of us were on an off road ride and held up on Saturday morning (2 October 2010) by 2 armed men near Hoekplaats in Centurion / Erasmia area. (GPS coordinates are -25.852456, 28.076946) at about 08h00. They ambushed us and then tied us up face down on the ground and took all our valuables (and obviously the bikes). The men indicated to us that they had been watching us ride there previously and asked us where our other two usual riding partners were. They kept us there for at least 30 minutes and were in no hurry whatsoever to clear the area. We are all fine and diffused the situation by co-operating and remaining calm. Having been through a few hold ups I can assure you this is the best way to respond particularly if you are taken by surprise. They knew what they were doing and made sure they kept their distance until we were well tied up. The bikes that were taken are as follows: . 1) Scott Spark 15 2009 (with Epic sticker). Black with Yellow and white trim 2) GT Marathon Team Bike 2010. Black Carbon with silver and a bit of yellow 3) GT Marathon Pro 2009. Silver with a bit of black carbon I am convinced that someone has to be behind this as they must be creating a market for these bikes. My bike for example is only one of very few of its kind in South Africa. We must be able to start to track down whoever is ‘redistributing’ these bikes into the market. There are possibilities that these bikes are making their way across our borders, but there is also a good chance that they are staying right here. Please also send to people in other provinces as the bikes may well make there way there too. Should you ever be buying a second hand bike please make an effort to enquire as to the details of the previous owner and somehow make sure it is not a stolen bike. We have to stamp this out and be allowed the freedom to enjoy our riding with peace of mind. We will most certainly keep on riding and not let this affect us, but this vicious circle must be stopped……………stolen……….sold………..claim from insurance……………no arrests…………so it goes on………….stolen………………… I hope that we can put an end to this and start to live a rightfully free existence. Cheers Steve Ellis
  22. My condolences to the family. I rode past the scene on Sunday morning and all that was left was some shattered glass and a flower I must say it makes me think twice about road riding. I initially took up MTBing because I was scared of the roads. I eventually bought a road bike and really enjoy going out for a loong weekend ride with my mates. I wonder though is it worth it? I love this sport and it is helping me get into shape again but hell it is sometimes frigging scary!
  23. Soxx, are you just soour cause I kicked your butt? In all seriousness though I agree that this should not count towards the seeding however I sure as hell did not ride only 40km's so to award my time to that distance is also unfair!
  24. Knowing Soxxx he was probably pulling his wire......sorry off topic, I will stop now
  25. A hot swedish boxom blonde
