I will be trying my first Olympic distance. The 08h30 start is not ideal but looking forward to it nonetheless.
  3. I enjoyed it. The road surface on the M7 was not great but otherwise no complaints. The ride on the M4 was really smooth and scenic. Will be back next year. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  4. It would seem that the total ascent is about 900m. Does this sound right? Tomorrow will be my first one. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  5. Yup, it also works wonders for my rotator cuff injury. And it is much less painful compared to her elbow![emoji2] Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  6. Anyone doing Midmar this weekend? Would be great to see some race reports! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

Thanks amr63, that's a really good read. I am happy for the most part about my race, obviously learnt a lot and identified areas to improve. For one, I need to kick more towards the end of the swim to get the blood to the legs as that run up the beach on the thick sand was killing me! My first ocean swim went well. The calm conditions calmed my nerves and the warmer, less dark water (my frame of reference is Midmar) also helped. Sighting was a bit of struggle with the swell of the ocean and a little fog in my goggles. My very cautious and tentative swim came to an end after 17:20 (my time, exluding T1). No issues on the bike and I enjoyed the flat course compared to my hilly training ground in the Midlands. Average speed of 32.7km/h over the 22km. I was worried about the run as I had not been running much due to ITB on the right and a knee recovering from an op on the left. But did not experience any real issues with the ITB only rearing its ugly head in the last km or so. But not bad enough to slow me down. Finished the run in 26:42 which I was happy with. It was a great event and I am pleased with the almost 10min improvement on my first sprint tri. I finished in a total time of 1:30:25. Now to get to 1:20! Can't wait for the next one in April. 8. I am with you 100%. Also in 1E and also my first Argus. Very keen to go under 3h but will be sure to enjoy every moment. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

I am also doing the sprint on Sunday and it is also my first surf swim. The thought of running into the ocean and swim is pretty scary but kind of looking forward to it. Any advice would be welcome! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  11. Really looking forward to my first 'Argus'. Just want to know re accommodation - can one accept that the main hotels will allow bikes in the room or should I rather call and check before booking? Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

I did the sprint and as I mentioned above, it was my first tri and first open water swim. The swim was quite a shock to say the least. I did not start far enough to the left or back so ended up in the middle of the bunch which was less than ideal. I realised about 50m in that I am not breathing and when I concentrated on that things got slightly better. The sighting also messed with my rhythm and caused my legs to be lower than usual. Also realised later that I am not really kicking. Anyway, lessons learned and just happy to have survived it. Official time of 22min although my watch said 18min. The cycle went well with no issues. Was satisfying to overtake a few competitors who swam so elegantly and effortlessly past me. Cycling time of 46min. Transition to the run was smooth without surprises as my coach had me practice this the week before. Only issue was a severe ITB ( I think that's what it is at least) on my right leg which almost brought me to a standstill at the downhills. But the flats and uphills were normal so I pushed there. Running time of 29min. Incredibly grateful to have completed my first tri and will definitely be back. Would like to try the ultra distance at Durban in March 2018. I am a member of VA and use their pool for swim training. However, if I were only going to use the pool and nothing else I would rather go somewhere else. At my VA there are only 5 lanes and one of them is always used by the swim coach. Of the remaining 4 at least one will be used by a mom with her kids - to play in. That leaves a mere 3 lanes which are not enough. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

I have also entered the sprint. It will be my first ever triathlon, open water swim and road run. So very scared indeed, especially of the swim. But I have trained hard and hope to at least finish without embarrassing myself. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  15. Thank you so much! Will try but I guess I'll survive if I have to start unseeded.
  16. Hi all I am new to this forum. This is my first post but have been reading up on the forum for some time. Living in beautiful KZN- PMB. I am very new to cycling but am fairly fit as I have been training for triathlons since Feb this year with my coach. A knee injury and op took my out of running for the time being so I focus on cycling and swimming for now. I am keen to do the amashova in Oct this year as my first proper long race. However, a friend has told me that it is quite a late start if one is unseeded like me. How can I get a seeding? Should I post this question under a different thread?
