  1. My wheel circumference is set to 2105mm - standard for a road bike. Not sure how my sensors can be out, as they are accurate on a normal bike ride.
  2. Thanks, although I’m a bit puzzled as I certainly don’t think I should have been that far ahead of everyone. I used a dumb trainer and I have logged my correct weight etc. Not sure what else I could have set incorrectly that would distort my performance. I’m fact, I slowed down on purpose after the halfway mark as I felt a bit guilty! Anything that I should check?
  3. I’m connected at last.
  4. Can’t join the race!
  5. I’m in!
  6. I flew down from Durban on Thursday to do the race, so it’s quite disappointing that it has been cancelled, although I accept the reasons. I’m staying in Somerset West until my flight back on Tuesday morning, and I’m determined to get a ride in before then, weather permitting. Are there any riders in the area that plan to ride either today or tomorrow that I can join? I’ve always wanted to ride along the coast towards Rooi Els.
  7. Starting in Batch 2E at 6:18am. Hope the weather plays its part.
  8. I’m flying down from Durban to race in my first Stellenbosch Cycle Tour and really looking forward to it. I will be staying with family in Helderberg Village in Somerset West and was wondering if there are any leg loosener rides planned on the Saturday morning in the area?

  10. I created these Strava routes, based on the route information on the Jock Classic website - hopefully they will help. Jock Classic Stage 1.gpx Jock Classic Stage 2.gpx Jock Classic Stage 3.gpx
  11. As a matter of interest, as the Jock is a multi stage event, how do most cyclists record it on Strava - as three separate activities or as one activity (with auto pause active)?
  12. Thanks for the tips! I am both terrified and excited about doing it. At the moment I have 34-50 at the front and 11-28 at the back (10 speed). I think I will look at getting 11-32 at the back. I will need all the help I can to get up those climbs!
  13. Time for me to give this bucket list event a go! Any tips for a first-timer from those who have done it before?

  16. I’ve been looking for these foldable Gatorskins for ages and now, thanks to Evobikes, I have them at last! Apparently easier to get on and off the rims than the regular wired version.
  17. I can personally vouch for the advice given above, i.e. mileage and intensity of training. When I first started cycling just over 4 years ago, I would frequently cramp in races after about 60km or so. I tried everything to combat cramping, like Crampstop, Rennies, Slowmag, etc, but nothing seemed to work for me. The trouble was that I was simply not putting in the miles. My longest training ride was never more than two thirds of the race distance, and that was only once a week. The rest of the week would be about 3 short rides of about 20km each. The turning point for me was when I joined a cycling club just under 2 years ago. The discipline of club rides on the weekends got my mileage up and soon I was riding two long rides each weekend with distances often equal to race distances, and sometimes even longer. I was also challenged to increase my pace as I advanced from the slower club batches to the faster batches. Almost overnight the cramps stopped as my body became used to the distances and pace. The old adage holds true - “No pain no gain”.
  18. I thought I would post a video of my ride last year as a “taster” for next month’s ride. Hoping for a sub-4 hour this time. https://youtu.be/36mHwQNYUJs

  20. I see that the start batches are now showing on the Racetec site. I am starting in batch FL at 07:15am.
  21. Yes, the milk is frothed with the steam wand, in a separate container, after having made the expresso in your mug. The machine is fairly noisy and it does a bit of a song and dance when you switch it on and off.
  22. I bought this machine a few days ago and I love it. Simple and neat. It makes a really nice cuppachino.
