  1. I think your best bet would be going down Frans Conradie through Boston all the way to N1 city, then left through Goodwood via Milton(which has a bicycle shoulder) all the way to the N7, then via Grandwest area through Thornton to Mutualpark... I have met another guy on the road coming from Durbanville via Jip De Jager going down to Francie van Zyl using that road all the way(past a bit of Dodge Elsies/Avonwood) into Epping Industria to Jan Smuts... I park my bike at the gym, they have a bike park...have not had any problems to date...I am a gym member so I shower that side...We however do have showers in my office being OMIGSA west end...
  2. Hi guys, I have seen little discussion for this race...Anyways I would like to know if thorns are a problem in this area? I ride with slimed tubes only? Also what pressure should be good given the muddy predictions? by voorbaat dankie...
  3. Thanks guys, it seems the Pinelands area is really a dry zone... Super Mario, I just need to stock up on a few spares before the weekend...
  4. What bike shop is close-by to pop in lunch time?
  5. I'm from the area but not as fit at the moment, doing mostly MTB'ing now up Zevenwacht... I'll have to pick up the next couple of weeks on the road bike since I'm doing the Knysna race in July, keep this thread alive and lets see...
  6. I also noted a few MTB'ers at the Fine Breede MTB that got upset for crap...This 1 guy fell off his bike when the rider in front of him got stuck in sand and fell...He then says "Hoe the F&%^ kan die ou sommer net wil stop?"...I mean the guy infront of him stopped because he fell of his bike, now you curse him...? He didn't stop, he fell from his bike...
  7. I guess I'll give it a miss then as we would come from Cape Town...we are trying to do a few races in different provinces, but this one is just terrible logistically...
  8. So what time do you have to be up ?
  9. How is the logistics for this race? Seeing it starts in PMB and ends in Durban? Does that not mean you have to be up really early?
  10. I will be there for the 32km...
  11. Zevenwacht has many hidden gems...I also live a few km's away and it is nice for a quickie MTB ride...
  12. I have too agree, I felt like a little kid after a karate movie... Just makes you want to ride harder...
  13. Indeed that Alu bit attached to the frame broke off...
  14. I guess you guys are right, I just have to train more to reach my goal then I can buy a proper race machine...until then I will have to stick with my flex machine...
  15. I have entered both 50km MTB and 100km road race...looking forward to it!
  16. Apologies for overlooking Campag gents, I am comfortable climbing and will be strengthening it this year...So you guys recon Campag is the way to go? I currently have Felt F65 2003 model, is the campag not a bit much for this bike? The current bike with 105 cost me about R5.5k - 4 years ago. I would of been happy to spend the money if I attained my goal of sub4 at least...even though my RD broke out of my control my goal has not been achieved...I want to spend minimum, but decent setup.
  17. So I had bad luck at the Argus with my RD bending on top of Wynberg hill and breaking off when I wanted to bend it back...so moving swiftly along into a better space what should I go for... I had a triple crank which I don't want again...also it was Shimano 105. Now I want to upgrade the whole groupset since the triple won't work with other upgrades. Should I go Shimano or SRAM? What is the advantage of Ultegra vs 105? I am 1.8m with 82cm inside leg, should I go 172.5 or 175? I currently like to have a high cadence, but have read that a compact is wasting energy? Should I go 53/39 with 11/25? Thanks for the help guys, but I want to get this right...
  18. As I wrote in my other topic: My RD got caught in my wheel and bent pulling the RD over to the top front of the cassette into the wheel, I tried to bring it back down and my RD broke off...and that gentlemen was my Argus done and dusted... It was my best seeding to date with ±5 months of training at least 4 days per week and then it ends with a mechanical...
  19. So in the end my new tyres lasted for the ±5km of the Argus I did... My RD got caught in my wheel and bent pulling the RD over to the top front of the cassette into the wheel, I tried to bring it back down and my RD broke off...and that gentlemen was my Argus done and dusted... It was my best seeding to date with ±5 months of training at least 4 days per week and then it ends with a mechanical... The only positive was a gentlemen that gave me a lift back to my car at the Waterfront...His wife forgot her helmet and he was back to the start...
  20. Looks like that back wheel needs to be pumped...
  21. I'll try and go to the expo Thursday and get a set of Gatorskins...the expo usually has some nice specials...
  22. Hi Guys, I have had a good streak with my current tyres not puncturing since August last year...I had a inspection last night and I might be due for a change. Should I change this week before the Argus or should I push through? Also maybe a swop from front to back might be easier, but that means less traction on the front wheels? If it was any other race I would most probably not even check my tyres...the pressure of the world champs!
  23. Socks is also a problem...
  24. It looks like it will be hotter with less wind according to todays forecast ...
