  1. I agree, you need a Maths degree and plenty of time on your hands to get your head around all the figures😲 Bearing in mind (given the prohibitive cost of competing overseas), that it should be feasible and realistic for a DH rider to obtain the required points from National events only, I would like someone to explain to me how a DH rider can accumulate the required 5 points from 3 National races* and SA Champs - race runs have a 100% weighting, and seeding runs have a 25% weighting as per the 2024 performance data. I am assuming that the format of 1 point for First place, 0.75 points for Second place, and 0.5 points for Third place will remain in place as per 2024 -this is not mentioned specifically in the Selection document. There are a number of Juniors moving to Elites in 2025 which will further increase competition for an already limited number of points. The overall SA Cup Series Log, which was an additional way of earning a point or two, will be done away with in 2025. Another concern is that XCO, XCM and Enduro riders still only need to earn three points to be eligible for selection - some unfair bias or does someone at CSA just dislike DH? I hope somebody in the know can put me right. * This may increase to 4 National races, if the Zevenwacht provincial race planned for Feb 2025, gets approval to be a National event. This would mean that non-WC based riders would need to travel to the Western Cape three time in three months to compete at National events - not affordable for most of us.
  2. CSA has now stated that the 2025 criteria need to be read in conjunction with the performance data relevant to DH (or each other discipline as applicable). See their data for DH attached. 6. Message from CSA : SELECTION POLICY We need to start working on the 2025 Selection policy. Next year all MTB Championships will be held in Switzerland from 2 - 14 September. This means that all selections must be completed by 30 June. We need input please of any amendments you or your riders feel should be implemented. Please discuss the policy with your top riders who would be governed by this policy and give us constructive input on how we can fine tune the policy for 2025. Please send an email to Ian and cc Paola. INPUT TO BE RECEIVED BY WEDNESDAY 28 AUGUST. Thereafter the new policy will be drafted and circulated for further input. 7. Used Biket for the first time last week to purchase a brake caliper online. I was cautious because I hadn't dealt with them before but all seems above board, payment went through and package was delivered within two days by Internet Express. Their price was also the most competitive of all the online/retail stores I visited.
  8. It would be great if he could start a DH youth development programme in SA and use his experience to coach up and coming riders. Would like to see GMC continue as well.
  9. Mens race starts at 16h32.
  10. Two years ago we had to pay R3k per rider for a Team Manager who knew sweet FA about DH and added no value. The cost per rider to stay in the Team House was R14k for a week - it worked out cheaper to find alternative accommodation. Entry fee for World Champs was paid by CSA. In 2023 at "Super Worlds" CSA picked up most of the costs. This year it's a self-funded trip again - probably R60k per rider, for those that are not in Europe already.
  11. Thank you for pointing out the flaws in the system so succinctly. The current Convenor of Selectors at CSA has acknowledged that the selection criteria are "dumb" as you put it. He is quoted as saying - "in discussions with riders, coaches and other industry players, it has become evident that we need to review the policy for next year". Pity it's too late for our Elite Males this year. #lettheboysride
  12. Unfortunately they are still trying to raise the funds to get to Andorra.
