  1. Oh boy, the similarities are uncanny, same thing happened to me. After school I went to the airforce for my “diensplig” coming home I discovered my bike was sold, even my cycling kit as it fitted the guy who bought the bike! “Because you have a car, why would you need a bicycle” All I have left is a photo. I also wondered what happened to my old bike
  2. Reynolds 525, in the early 90’s I had a Peugeot with Reynolds 653 tubing. Riding this steel frame brings back fond memories
  3. You can also try Wayne form Rapide https://www.rapide.co.za/product/rapide-ubremote/
  4. Here is my bike build, a pawn shop Hansom with mixed and matched parts transformed into something fun to ride.
  5. Point taken. You can set the spring to a certain extent. I guess it’s not an issue for me as I am a lightweight. The Marlin 8 does have a air fork though.
  6. I scored a bargain. It was a 2019 model that I bought in 2020. I think they were clearing old stock. In my opinion there is a lot of hype regarding air and coil. Coil is more affordable to service and easy to setup. If you don’t do big drops the rockshox xc30 coil is more then capable. Always a lekker feeling to ride a section where my mates push their bikes that cost 5 times more than mine. However I don’t like the Suntour coil fork on my wife’s Marlin 5.
  7. I bought a Trek Marlin 7 last year in February. I am very happy with my purchase. I do gravel and single track with it. It was a big upgrade from my “26 Giant Nrs1 carbon. Prices were also a lot more reasonable then
  8. Looks like we have similar bikes. I spoke to Peter from Road Cycles in Silverton about mine. He remembers these bikes in the smallest detail. According to him these bicycles were manufactured in Springs in the early to middle ‘70s. Some were sponsored to the cyclists who took part in the Rapport tour. Unfortunately the frame is a bit big for me. Top tube is 57, downtube 58 Here are some photos of mine.
  9. Here is another one of my finds. Peugeot Rapport. From what I’ve been told, early ‘70’s, built in Springs and around that time a lot of these bikes were sponsored for cyclists racing in local races. All original components
  10. Thanks, that is some bike porn right there. Lovely for reference but I think you are right. Those parts will be extremely hard to find.
  11. Thanks, I’m still undecided as to which way I want to go. At least I know where to get the hoods. The brake calipers and crank is Zeus.
  12. Hi Guys, I am bringing a Babelegi express back to life. It’s got Shimano 105 brake leavers with campy hoods. The calipers are Zeus 2001 (made in Spain) a bit of a mix and match. Should I try and get 105 calipers with Shimano hoods or rather try and source campy leavers?
  13. I see there is one advertised on Gumtree. Bianchi 1885 Racing Bike on Gumtree https://www.gumtree.co.za/a-road-bikes/boksburg/bianchi-1885-racing-bike/1009544874110910057885509?utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_content=app_ios&utm_medium=social&utm_source=sms
  14. I bought a used Giant NRS 1 for my daughter and did a makeover on the frame http://i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p629/didi2345/Giant%20NRS%201.jpg
