  1. planning to pitch up on the saturday and grab a camping spot, looks like they only allow provisional bookings from the friday onwards, not from saturday night, so will have to go ad-hoc if wanted to. otherwise will have to book and stay from the friday onwards.. then it gets expensive fast. whom else will be camping that weekend at forever resort bela bela? perhaps we could share a stand(share the costs)
  2. its on "Mad Multisport" facebook page, the facebook link as follows, hopefully it helps https://m.facebook.com/mad.multisport/photos/gm.797965940303328/639325236218762/?type=3&source=44&ref=bookmarks rookie lemme know then we go together
  3. for the bela bela Tri, they have a training day on the 7th of august. so we can train the course.. im def gonna go sommer gonna stay sat and sunday night. who else is going to take advantage of this?
  4. train your ass off LOL.... you have plenty of time, best i did was get hold of the total immersion swimming training dvd, and got the right gear from the start(correct shoes etc). then work out a training program (spinning classes, running around your neighborhood) progress slowly and build a solid base.
  5. those trainers looks yuck! but the fashion has changed nowadays. some good news, swam without the snorkel last night for the first time proper lengths. so i am very grateful. watched the total immersion swimming dvd which gave good pointers. so i am chuffed.
  6. jeepers these things not cheap (events). also keeping the sore throat and sinusitis at bay.. swimming again his afternoon after work and spin sessions in the morning. keep it up guys and gals
  7. bloody crazy rules, saw it with the bela bela also, very strict!
  8. yikes sounds serious! from the looks of things breathing technique is everything in freestyle swimming.
  9. very true, this is what scares me to bits. also want to arrange an open water swim with others that know soon. getting better with the swimming fitness, although the breathing still buggers me up badly still dependent on the snorkel for the time being. but the confidence is getting there and the distance is also getting much better, swimming every second day for an hour each time.
  10. thanks Davey i could work on the rythem this morning, and see my next item to work on is breathing slow and relax under water, the brain still tells my body to gasp like a fish "out of water" just inside the water hehe. so i think my body is still a lil freaked out face submerged. but that is now slowly getting better. once i have these disciplines in check i should be able to get the laps down more comfortably i appreciate the inspiration and assistance all you. ordering my wetsuit and trisuit from Terry today, then once it lands i can get an open water swim under the belt.
  11. Dear diary, this morning i swam 700m, the furthest ive gone in my life... thanks guys, the swimming plans and advice goes a long way.
  12. 100% im gonna cook it as hard as my body allows without getting into injury lane
  13. thanks a stack for the link, just got a workout and looks do-able hopefully this weekend i will be able to work through the entire program, starting tomorrow
  14. your warmup distance is a distance i am not able to get to at present but i will get it up there, hopefully it will just "happen" with hard work.
  15. im in comms with Terry from xterra for my gear, fark the swim is stressing me out bigtime!! did a 7km run last night without hastles, legs sore today.. will go do swim only tomorrow at the gym to see where i am at, used to go spin and then swim. hopefully i will get some confidence this weekend on a stroke and rythem to work from. not sure how im gonna get to the big numbers ito swimming in such a short period. but i will do my best, the training programs are rough and assume you can already swim..oops but i will get there..
  16. gooi a google search for triathlon training programs , there are some good examples
  17. thanks for the headsup we are going to be camping at forever resorts.. will check out the dam etc beforehand the day before hehehe. now its getting it all together.. remember if i die, its you guys's fault!!
  18. eish im not fazed about the purchase or renting, not sure if i'll have enough time to sort out my swimming skills AND getting used to swimming in a wetsuit in this short timeframe.. yikes!! but seems like i will have to get going with it...
  19. wow eager beaver
  20. haha ive also entered for bela bela, f#ck im leke nervous... will also have to ramp up my training and technical swimming bigtime. bit good motivation to get my goodies going. will also aim for finish. would i need a wetsuit for this event? tri-suit i will buy, but scared of wetsuit changes in such short period of adaptations.
  21. good advice all round, thanks guys!! i will enter bella bella and get my plan sharpened up just trying to avoid overtraining at present.. yikes!!! sommer feel amped about it all.
  22. thanks for the inspiration guys, i am sad i only started so late, wouldve loved the bela bela tri. gonna be there to support a friend competing, so we might as well grab a beer afterwards if you are keen!
  23. very true, this morning i was able to get a bit of a pace/rhythm going.. so im definitely getting into the swing of things. was thinking of getting my form correct with it, then slowly get off the snorkel. but shucks it helps alot, at this stage i try breathing on the right place , so once the snorkel is out then i should be in a good position to carry on without. but my fitness is still horrendous, thus gasping for air after 2-3x laps. which wont work without the snorkel at this point
  24. Chaps I purchased a front fitting snorkel and the amount of confidence it gave me is astonishing. I could do 10x laps in the pool without the fear and post swim water swallowing issues. I am so happy and thankful for the advice. I could practice the stroke and see the fitness issues being a non issue since i am now able to swim towards the goal. Ever thankful. Renier
  25. bloody good tip on the basin! i can do 2x - 3x laps in the pool breathing okey, but once i get "dood moeg" i start gasping for air, which buggers up the breathing out and timing the breathing in.. soon as air is out it wants to take a breath in. how bout the bugs and illnesses picked up in the pool? i just gooi vitaminC and good multivitamins.. any other tip?
