  1. Now a trip to the Cape would be a holiday I have interest from riders across the country who are keen to do their base training up here But then let's see how many others are keen from CT
  2. Back2Basics 2011/12 Training Camps In response to numerous requests I will be holding a series of training camps from the beginning of December until the end of January 2012. The target group, although not exclusive to, will be ages 14-20. Day, week and weekend options are available. The camps will be dedicated to developing an endurance base through varied and supported rides in the South of Johannesburg. Each camp (day, week or weekend) will focus on specific cycling and life skills lessons. These lessons will be reinforced by experiential team-building activities. For more detail on the camps and costs please contact me on; Cellular: 082 376 1635 E-mail: garypaul@netactive.co.za follow us on twitter: @garyteamasics Gary Wilson
  3. On the other side of the coin; sometimes people in positions that volunteer their services find themselves thinking that they may be better off pursuing careers as events organisers or consultants to such. A logical career path is to resign from the "volunteer role" and exploit the gaps that you identified during your position in office to make money from the system. "Watch this space"
  4. Apologies, Gauteng based
  5. I have started the following initiatives within our academy; a) Coaching/mentorship Aimed more at the non-technical aspects such as goal and objective setting and assisting athletes in overcoming barriers which prevent them from achieving their goals. B) Individual orientation sessions for those interested in trying out track training or racing c) Supported training rides aimed specifically at young riders in an attempt to encourage new riders to competitive cycling. This is a general overview and more information is available on request. Gary Wilson garypaul@netactive.co.za
  6. I "believe" that Mr. Mocke has already taken office at MEGAPRO (2nd week or more already) My understanding was that the CSA CEO position required relocation to the Cape; I'm not sure whether this was done or if functions were executed remotely. The release/announcement from CSA makes no mention of "we wish him well", "thank him for his contribution"; just a WHOOOSH! Makes me wonder if a notice period was served?
  7. Looking for part-time/flexi work; preferably in cycling industry. 20-30 years working experience including; HR generalist, training and development, Call-Centre Senior Management;... Own business for past 11 years; looking to supplement income. National Technical Diploma BA (Education and Psychology) Post-grad Teachers Diploma MBA Involved in cycling for many years but more extensively over the past 8 years!
  8. The cyclist/motor cyclist accident happened in the Elite/u23 bunch. The cyclist is at home with a neck brace as a precautionary for whiplash.
  9. Hammertoe, The riders mentioned are all competent track riders. The criteria however has been clear for some time: Unilateral selection, bias, favouritism, nepotism, inconsistency.....all of the above! Some surprises on the way from the Sports Ministry!
  10. Any information please. We're currently considering a partial scholarship for my son to study in Colorado, USA. Other than the academic reasons, the opportunity also allows for him to participate in the Collegiate Cycling programme (road and track). Do any of you know of someone in SA that has taken this route (Collegiate Cycling) that we could have a chat to,..

    B Worlds

Anyone have more detail of the article in the Beeld, and, or, an update on the Track team selected for World's B? Considering that the event is around the corner and that the names need to be with the UCI at least 10 days before the event, hopefully those short-listed are going along well with their preparation. Any news on Junior and Vets squads for their respective World's?

    .

(Optimus) I was there too. I'm glad to see that others have picked up the "flaws" in the selection process. My son also participated and by his own admission wasn't good enough on the day! He has had some excellent results against Elite riders locally, but these have gone mostly unnoticed and he hasn't been able to produce the once-off performances when it matters. You are right, there is so much talent, yet our system fails when it comes to identifying, nurturing and developing it. (Butafly) People are well aware of the "connection" yet nothing seems to be done about it. Stakeholders cloose to the action dont have the backbone to challenge and are afraid to jeopardize their own position within the hierarchy. I understand that the matter has previously been taken up with our Olympic Committee and that there's correspondence on the way to the UCI. Kenneth, previously selected for World's, raced well enough to show that there is more improvement to come. (November), never heard his name before nor mentioned on the day. My assumption in the absence of a well articulated policy and related criteria. is that he replaces Benjamin for development reasons. (Chrispy) 100% agreement with you. For a 1st year Junior Carstens performed well! Did any of the selectors take the time to sit with him and tell him that his performance was noted, that he is on track, that he will be placed on a development prog?...dont think so! Bakke outperformed Funnel on the day, but the later did nothing wrong to suggest he shouldn't be in the team. Spies seems to deliver his best performance on the day. I have it on good authority that all the selectors weren't present during the Junior points event nor the Madison. I'm also told that Elite riders were told before the day, who or who not to pair up with in the Madison. Was Velocity 3 really a selection event? The Junior team didn't change iro performance on the night and others have asked questions regarding the selections in the other categories. Martin van Wyk, a VET, outperformed most of the Elites, Gadi Chait now races for Colourpress, surely his program didn't allow him to be ready on the day, (was this considered when excluding him from the Elite team) but he may be ready when it matters! Liam de Roche: surely the selectors know that you can't go to war without him? (Groot Lem) - you're likely not going to get a reply to your sms. The rider you referred to was outclassed at 2006 SA's, Worlds and again on Sunday. But in the absence of a integrated system the status quo remains. The result = the number of young riders racing track diminishes... go count them in KZN, CG, GN, EC etc,, (Breeze) - your team consists of a bunch of highly talented youngsters. Bradley's performance on the road came as no surprise to me. On the track he's even better. He did more than enough to show he deserves his place despite little or no track specific prep. The organisers knew that the event was going to enjoy selection status before the CG province did. Did riders have adequate time to prepare for the event? Is the Tri-Nations event listed on the 2007 CSA Calendar?.... On a positive note I've no doubt that the acting COO can put actions in place to address the above and (Optimus) hopefully in time for the youngsters you mention to see the benefits thereof....
