  1. Unfortunately that is bull (see what I did there ), this idiot in the picture is actually taunting the poor beast http://www.dailydot.com/society/facebook-share-torero-munera-bullfighting/
  2. Her name is Tamzyn I think, but the number for her on their website always goes to her voice mail, I guess she doesnt have a receptionist.
  3. Thanks Ralph. Looks like I was being an idiot though, didn't specify that I was in Cape Town. I guess "Lakeside" is a pretty generic place name. Seems like all the virgin Actives have resident Biokinteicists (Not the I have actually managed to get through to one yet).
  4. Hey Folks I'm looking for a Biokineticist near Lakeside/Westlake/Retreat etc, does anyone have a recommendation for a good one?
  5. Bleh, I thought that might be the case. Thanks!
  6. Hey folks who are more knowledgable than me... I have read back about 10 pages and can't find any mention of it, can I collect my race number on the day if I am there early enough? I'm from the deep south so driving out to Stellies on a Saturday just to fetch a number isn't my idea of fun.
  7. While I try not to wish harm on anyone... this is hilarious
  8. Thanks. I did think about that, but I really doubt it is worth the time, I couldn't pin anything on them. If only I'd been filming with my GoPro this time. If they had been going for my bike they would have been bitterly dissapointed but this one seemed pretty vindictive, like it was "just for fun". edit: Thanks for all the comments guys, I'm glad nothing worse happened too! Won't let idiots like this put me off though.
  9. This is probably a bit of a pointless post, but anyways, here goes. I was riding along misty cliffs (heading in the Kommetjie direction) late this morning when I felt a car too close for comfort, almost like I was being forced off the road, just then the front passenger leaned out of the window and smacked my right arm as they drove past, definitely intentionally, knocking it right off the handlebars. I thank God I was able to keep control somehow with one hand. There were two cyclists quite far ahead of me and I saw one of them looking around as the Tazz went past them, so I dunno if they tried anything with them. The car was a slightly faded red Tazz with white CA license plate and I think 3 guys in it. Anyways, be safe folks, there are some miserable people out there. (In other news, how lucky are we to have this place to ride in? Despite the wind it was a beautiful day to be out on the bike )
  10. Thanks DJR and HDW, appreciate it, that clears it up a lot. Sounds like it is worth signing up, even if it doesn't have a direct effect on Argus seeding.
  11. Could one of you folks who are in the know help me understand whether I need to become a PPA member again. Last year I signed up for my wife and I, because we were riding together and as a first timer with no seeding rides she wanted the slight seeding improvement of being a member. This year I am riding alone and anticipating doing a seeding ride or two beforehand, so do I need to pay PPA for membership? Thanks! By the way, I did try to look here http://www.cycletour.co.za/index.php/information/licensing/ but it made me stand in the queue again and doesn't seem to say anything useful.
  12. Weppie, those ratrodbikes guys are awesome. Most friendly forum I have ever come across as well. I have been following them for a couple of years, I'm sure you already know, but for the other guys, they have just completed their 7th annual build-off which always results in some amazing bikes. Here is one of my favorites from last year: http://www.ratrodbikes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=43736 I just wish we could get hold of those awesome prewar frames in SA. I'm having to settle for building up an old 20inch bike from the 80's.
  13. I'd also like to thank all the guys doing work on the trails. I was there on Saturday afternoon and it looked amazing. I was a little concerned as to whether we were supposed to be riding the trail yet or not, because there was a log at the entrance which looked like it might have been blocking the way at one point, but since everyone else was doing it I did too (I can hear my mother saying "if all your friends jumped in off a bridge..."). Tried to avoid any soft lips and berms and dragging the brakes. Anyways, just a thought, if you guys are going to be working every Saturday, I'm sure there will be times when you need to close a trail, so it would probably be worth having a written sign or something, because I wouldn't want to undo anyone's hard work.
  14. My routine is less rigorous, I bounce it on the suspension a few times to get the grit off the tyres, then I just put it inside and leave it there until the next day.
  15. I finally got my footage from the race uploaded. http://vimeo.com/ossum/lighthouse-to-lighthouse-2012 If that doesn't work, the link is: vimeo.com/ossum/lighthouse-to-lighthouse-2012 Unfortunately the sound on one of the music tracks seems to have gone a little tinny, not quite sure why yet. I will have to upload another version some time.
  16. I actually quite enjoy the process, so i don't mind spending some time on it, so long as I am not fighting with the tools. Anyways, I guess this is all a bit off topic. Now if only we could figure out how to show wind in the video (and make the hills look steep). When they see the footage people are going to think I'm such a whiner for saying this race was hard.
  17. I'm on Linux now, so I am using Kdenlive, it's the best of a bad lot, but that's not saying much. My underpowered laptop doesn't help either. In the past I used Adobe Premier which was awesome, but the price, yikes!
  18. Not being on your bike? I reckon that's worse P.S. Cool vid MM, I started putting mine together this morning, I'll post it whenever its done (don't hold your breath).
  19. On a similar note, my exhausted brain convinced me that that stupid Telkom tower on the horizon about 10k from the finish was the lighthouse. NOTHING but lighthouse's should be allowed to be painted with red and white stripes, no matter how much skinnier and more festooned with antennas they are.
  20. Hahaha, I am so glad I wasn't the only one who was shouting at the wind. Didn't help, but it made me feel better. Also, to the complete stranger on the sky-blue specialized who handed me half a Bar One (Bar Half?) as we were climbing a hill, thanks. My manly side wants to believe that the tear in my eye was just due to the howling wind, but I can't be 100% sure.
  21. What an awesome race. Great food. Super cool to ride on the beach too. It was my longest event by far (Buffet Olives 45km was the longest prior) and I SUFFERED in the wind yesterday. Definitely pushed too hard at the beginning trying to keep with bunches that were too strong for me and making sure I was taking my turn at the front. By Elim I was riding alone again and just didn't have the juice to cling onto the groups passing me. The last bit on the beach and through gansbaai beach front was WAY longer than I remember it being at the start of the race, seemed to go on forever. I will be back for sure though, it feels awesome to complete something that was (for me) so tough.
  22. I have to agree with everything that Tazz says, this race was awesome. I did the 25km last year, it was my 2nd race ever (the ridiculously flat "die burger 30km" was the first) and I have been raving about it since. This year I did the 42km and it was even better. That climb at the end did me in too, my legs felt like unresponsive lumps of ham. I sure was glad that I've upgraded to a real bike since last year though. The Makro-special that I did the 25 on would have been a nightmare on those awesome sketchy downhills (nevermind lugging 20kg of bike up the buchu-burn) Not 100% sure of my time (forgot to turn off autopause on my GPS) but it seems to be in the 2:40-2:45 region. Will have to wait for the results to be sure.
  23. 1. Do you have a Wild Card? Yes 2. How often do you use it? 2-3 times a week (tokai) 3. Do you cycle in San Parks reserves on a regular basis (for instance, Tokai/Silvermine)? Yes 4. Do you think cyclists are catered for specifically, by San Parks? No 5. Would you be prepared to pay to get access to areas, currently off-limits to cyclists? Yes (but not much more than current wildcard fees) 6. If you have ONE idea/suggestion to enhance the cycling experience, what would it be? Better connection between parts of table mountain
  24. Well hey there fellow endomondonites, here's mine http://www.endomondo.com/profile/425024 I find it helpful when I'm riding solo to know that the whole world can see how slow I'm going, helps me to avoid slacking off
  25. Deny it? Ppfff, this is what commuting is all about. Of course, I am full-sus mountain biker on knobblies with hairy legs (concealed under jeans) wearing a backpack, so almost everyone on the road is a target
