  1. American Express interest rate on my credit card is only 12.5% If you intend paying the 30k bike off in 6 months - it's only gonna cost you around R 1,800... Make sure the bike is insured! Enjoy that S-Works! Doesn't get better than that!
  2. Well no one deserves to drop dead from it... But a mate told me that he discovered some of his team mates at DC were taking EPO, and we're talking about complete amateurs - absolute shocker!! Reminds me of the juice heads that suddenly puff up a week before H2O! Absolutely clueless!
  3. Oh joy! Disputed my grouping... Been pushed from G into B! Now I don't have to work in the front so much!
  4. Also in G - so we better pump it! Sub 2:45 baby!
  5. So I applied to be reseeded - DECLINED! Race office said to supply them with my "Indexes" for the previous races I did. Where do I find that?
  6. Try calling the Race Office, their number and email is on the site.
  7. Trying my luck to get pushed into B group from G group! Wish me luck!
  8. Did the long race in 3:29... Will ask them tomorrow and let you know what they say
  9. never shy to share the workload! who's a hubber and who isn't?
  10. well it is and it isn't... 32km/h average at Satellite is probably equivalent to a 34km/h average for 94.7... which could put you comfortably in the middle of B group, but then G group's fastest time is probably around 35km/h...
  11. Got my start time this morning for 94.7 cycle challenge. Group G - 6h59... I would like to try get an earlier group. Is this possible? Anyone tried to change their seeding? I see they charge R150 to change your start time so they're assume open to requests. I finished 7th in Group C at last week's Satellite but not sure they would care - like most of these cycle races the only seeding events they consider are 6-18 months old - dont see the point in that. So is it worth emailing the Race Office my request?
  12. Rate from Aramex Air Freight is now R 2,500... I think hiring a drug mule to bring it through might be cheaper.
  13. Is was International Courier. I'm now in contact with their Manchester Air Freight office, and it has to be done commercially as opposed to personal shipment. I might have to organise an import/export license number - luckily my brother in law can sort that one out for me - but what a story!!!
  14. How's this for a joke: I phone Amarex in JHB for a quote to ship a frame from the UK to SA. They send me a quote for R19,800...
  15. Thanks for the advice, the uk bike shop did but at £280 I thought it overpriced.
  16. I've bought a road frame from a bike store in the uk which is now waiting for collection. They want to charge GBP380 which I think is crazy. I've got quotes from international courier companies and the quotes vary from 5k to 8k - insanity! UPS came back with a R2000 quote. Does anyone know any other options? Container shipment perhaps? Planet-X bikes in the UK quote GBP80 to ship a full bike to ZA.
  17. The marshaling was not great. The start/finish area was a disaster with cyclists, pedestrians and vehicles moving in both directions... and trying to leave that parking lot! I'm sure they could plan everything a lot better.
  18. Does anyone know how the guy that needed an emergency helicopter evacuation is doing? My prayers go out to his family and friends and for his recovery. It's crazy how bad some of these accidents can be. I wonder if his helmet was strapped on properly or whether his helmet just wasn't sufficiently effective.
  19. Shocking!! I'm very nervous riding on road without any yellow lane or verge...
  20. Okay so I believe there's a ride that starts at the "Circus" just off the R59... Road and MTB... guess I'll rock up at 5h30 and make introductions!
  21. Hi peeps. Does anyone know if there an organised Group Ride in Vanderbijl Park or the Vaal area on Saturday mornings? I'm at the river this weekend and would like to get some distance in. The DC is only a few weeks away now, can't start tapering just yet! Preferably road, but MTB will do too. Cheers, Rob
  22. I'm have a predicament... they're similarly spec'd, they cost about the same. Although there's very little info on Volcan bikes. So anyone able to help me make an informed decision? Cheers, Rob Stumpjumper http://specialized-sa.co.za/contentbike.php?range=58&year=77&bike=180 Volcan XC2
  23. Hi everyone, Bike shopping is certainly hectic! Umpteen manufacturers and so many combinations of componentary! So best to ask the experts. I have a budget of around 10k. I plan on doing Ironman next year, but hope to do most of my training Mountain Biking. So maybe road riding once a week. I guess I'll fit bar extensions eventually for the time trial riding. I'm not sure if some road bikes are more proficient at time trial riding as opposed to getting a TT bike. I'm able to get my hands on a new Specialized Allez Comp for 10k. Any suggestions on how to spend my hard earned cash? Thanks!!
