  1. I have a Garmin Fenix Solar 7s, and I have wondered if anyone has tested (any) of their Garmin Solar devices to see how much (long/time) sun exposure is really needed for a full or 'good' charge?

Going to try to keep the wind and water out with these things...

How did it go? I had wet, freezing feet from start to finish. Toes still mildly numb.

  3. Jumping on this thread: are there a few things that changed in a year? Everybody still prefers Zwift? I have been using Zwift for about 6 months. Thinking of trying Sufferfest - I like the idea of the cross training aspects in between and I am not a 'free ride' type. Shoot me with your critics.

  4. Hi!

I have a Bell MIPS Youth helmet that I would like to give away.

Note: I (I have a small head) fell on a single track a couple of weeks ago and the helmet has two tiny cracks on the side. This is a hazard and that is why I am not willing to ride with it anymore as we ride on various terrains and "safety first"... But I think this will be okay for a kid and not worth it to throw away.

Collection/courier will be on your account, photos attached.

  5. Hi all, I joined the club after a silly fall on the side of Lynnwood last week. Day 7 after operation and I am itching to move. My main concern: sweating. I still have the original dressing on, but it irritates my skin so much I think I am going to remove it. Dr advised not to sweat while having the plaster on: does this mean I can do something non-shoulder when it is off? Like brisk walking/IDT with the sling?

  6. Hi, a bit of advice please: In 2020 the Wolfpack club membership for R1,4k seemed like the best deal (inclusive of Wolwespruit, Cowhouse, Rosemary and TAF). However, this year we don't have that option anymore. What memberships are you looking at?

    *Note: Riding mostly around Pretoria

  7. Powerbar hits it really high ito taste and effect. Love their protein bars. Just a bit too pricy in general.

Same as mentioned below, Singletrack should be the best out there, but I also could not handle the taste anymore.

NamedSport tastes really good, still not sure if it's just a more expensive version of Powerade.

KetoNutrition is similar to Singtrack; good ingredients but lack a bit in taste. I mix it with NamedSport, works well.

On shorter rides, we love the zero sugar caffeine High5 tablets. Tastes good and sort of guilt free.

32Gi is a bit high in sugar, imo.

PVM's energy bars are nice, undecisive on their drinks. Local is lekker - if you please.

If it is not obvious here, taste plays a big role for me. Tangy and not too sweet. Watered down is my go-to.

Nutrition and hydration is highly personal, you will learn to love and hate certain kinds of certain products as you go. I don't think there is one particular brand that will be "the one".

  8. Lady here, can confirm that when it comes to saddles for a woman it's no easy task. I've tested way more than 5 saddles over a one year period and it's down to Spez's Power OR Mimic. I follow many women's cycling forums and most prefer a Spez or the Selle Italia Gel Flow.

I really hope only a minor adjustment is needed - it can be very frustrating to find the problem for the discomfort.

  9. Good morning,

I would like your opinion on the Nescafe Dolce Gusto machine if you're keen to share? The machines come at a fair price and although the pods are a bit pricey, it still comes down to around R5,50 per cup. My biggest issue is the waste. My partner and I are loyal plunger and Bialetti users, mostly due to the fact that we only create organic waste with the grounds. A family member has a Dolce Gusto machine and I love the convenience and relative good cups of coffee it serves... but it kills me to use so much plastic and just throwing it in the bin.

    Please advise.

  10. Hello Hubbers, I haven't checked in on this forum for a while - I would just like some advice please:

I am/was a frequent gym goer - I am kind of an all-in-one fitness enthusiast (=as much as I enjoy cycling, I like a Bosu ball, kick class and sauna just the same). That said - I miss the gym terribly and I am feeling flabby. I am thinking of buying some of my favourite fitness equipment (they are not cheap), and wondering if I should just hang on a while until the gyms open again? What are your predictions? Will we only go back to gym July/August you think?

  11. Hi Guys,

Thanks for the constructive feedback and comment around the launch of our new Podium Range. We are super excited about our updated and rejuvenated cycling offering which features 3 different tiers for different types of riders.

You can view more on our tier structure here: https://www.firstascent.co.za/explore/features/new-cycling-range

We value all feedback on our product and do undertake vigorous testing processes in the development of new ranges, like we undertook with the new Podium Bib.

That being said, we would love for some further feedback, and most importantly having you riding in the new Podium Bib - so we are willing to send 3 people on this thread our new Podium Bib (male or female) along with a jersey of your choice to ride in and provide feedback to us - free of charge, no strings attached!

Mail us on marketing@firstascent.co.za if you are interested to give our new Podium Bib Shorts a spin and we will choose 3 people. Please include your BikeHub alias for our own reference.

    Cheers,

    First Ascent

I sent an email a week ago and I have not received a response thus far?

  12. I wear contact lenses too - with all the above-mentioned symptoms. Runny nose, dry eyes, sweat getting into my eyes setting it on fire, etc. For the sweat I keep a buff with me and I ride with 100% S2s. Very fog-resistant.

I am a noob with the type of glasses you should get, but the 100%s work very well for me.

  13. Being a female rider I appreciate the idea to design items specifically for the female body, but often that means at a higher cost. The Women's Podium Shorts are R400 more than the Men's. The bib has much more material than the men's, although the style is sexy - less is more here. Ironically, it's the same price as the men's.
