  1. Any idea on price for a 32? Thanks for the info.
  2. I love choc milk. Lived on Woolies choc milk after each Epic stage. I rather have that than a commercial drink.
  3. I am new to this SS thing. What rings would you recommend and where do I get them? Thanks.
  4. I have finished building a SS from an old Giant XTC Frame and Duke fork. I reckon the bike was a 2002 model. I stripped the frame back to raw alu and gave it a polish with 800 grit water paper, rebuilt the shock from the ground up incl a new spray job and got a crank and tensioner from CRC, finished it off with components in the garage (yes we all have them) and there you have it a SS. The biggest surprise are the brakes, I put on some mean looking Clarks pads and the stopping power is superb, no worries on that front. There are still some small tweaks to come. New Swalbe Albert UST tyres and a green seat post clamp and star nut to match the tensioner. Also need to polish up a few bits on the brakes which have a bit of rust. The bike come in at 9.8kg at the moment and will drop a bit with the UST tyres, so overall I am a happy guy. Tomorrow I will be commuting to work on her.
  5. The Cape Epic is not the Tour de France. Show me an Epic rider who doesn't want to know the vertical ascent and I will show you a liar. :-) how can you want take away something that defines an event? What value will that add? Remember for the majority it's not a race, it's you against the climbs and those guys want to know who that opponent is.
  6. FULL Shimano 105 at 8.6kg's. Great Value. http://www.silverback.co.za/2011_website_SILVERBACK/web_gallery/images/strela1.jpg
  7. How did the stripping go?
  8. The gel / brush is the right one (all purpose or high performance, both work fine). How long did you leave it on for. Apply as per directions and leave it on overnight. It not like the conventional strippers which react fast. This one works slow and when done you just rinse it off. Minimal work. Let me know if you have any hassles.
  9. Yip, thats the right one.
  10. Great event again. It was really muddy and I just dont know how Solly and Gary got those routes together so quickly. This event has the best waterpoints in mountain biking bar none! (okay, I havent ridden every race, but these are spectacular). You just cannot believe the effort the locals put in, so for those of you out there this week, take time to enjoy them and appreciate the effort. WOW, cant say enough. Get those pumpkin fritter at WP 1 on day 2. they are worth the ride just by themselves. I was lucky enough to miss the gippo's so remember to stock up on Immodium and Probiotics. I could of made enough with the box of Immodium I had to pay for next years entry! . The Powasol bike wash wasn't as it should be but in all fairness those bikes were a horrid clay mud mess. I was just happy that they managed to get the drivetrains clean and lubed. If you were expecting showroom condition out the washbay, I think you should lower your expectations. Those blokes worked until nearly midnight on those bikes. There were also plenty guys asking for them to wash bikes who didnt book the bikewash which put additional pressure on them, but they still did it and didnt turn anyone away.
  11. Not a great idea to blast ALU and an acid bath ....eina....Hydrogen Embrittlement = weak spots . There are so many different paint systems out there and each reacts differently. I will send you some and let us know if it works. if it works you wont be needing hours or steelwool! Send me your number.
  12. ok, youve twisted my rubber arm! Send me your contact details.
  13. Sure, send me your contact details.
  14. RemovAll will take the primer bits off, but not rust. There are some commercial rust removers available. Check out Builder Warehouse, they do have a selection of these products.
  15. I have sprayed the fork myself ! white with a high gloss clear coat. I will most probably get the frame coated by a pro. I will use a high quality 2k Waterbased automotive coating system from Spies Hecker or Standox. Not going to compromise the finish after the strip came out so nicely.
  16. No problem, let me know where you're based and I will get you a liter.
  17. Let me know where you're based and I will get you enough for a frame strip.
  18. Yes, but the only difference is that you must not leave it on longer than nessescary. So I wouldn't leave it on overnight. It depends on the resin technology used in the frame. It's definitely way safer than std type strippers.
  19. There are always variables as per the type of coating and the number of coats, but I am yet to find a coating RemovALL doesn't get off. Most times its just one layer and a few touch ups.
  20. No problem. Send me your number and I will get you 2L for your 2 bikes. Where you situated?
  21. Yip, no problem.
  22. Forget the group set at this level of bike. They all work just fine. Most important factors are the frame geometry, wheels and shock. Judge the bikes on this criteria. So do your research on those bits.
  23. Any hubbers out there planning to strip a frame soon? 1st 4 hubbers to post of pic of the frame they want to strip will get 1L of this stripper free courtesy of Plascon.
  24. If anyone is stuck for accommodation tommorrow night, let me know, weve got a 8 bed house at Drakensville and there are only 4 of us.
