  1. I have done a few but for the most chilled vibe and superb riding 3 Towers is tops closely followed by Berg and Bush Descent. Day 1 of berg and Bush is, in my humble opinion, the best single day of riding I have done in my life. too many races, too little time.....
  2. As far as I understand it the camera rule is for safety. They do not say you cant use a camera, they just say you cant use it on your body. There have been plenty serious injuries when some dumbass tries to start his go-pro on his helmet which he cant see and he takes too long to fell for the shutter button. if its on your bars its a simple push of a button like your garmin. No issue with cameras on the bars. anyone know any better?
  3. already given the R100 bucks to Maroesjka......
  4. It is more expensive than a ziplock bag but have you seen the damage all the bits do to each other after a month or 2?? This keeps everything apart and its really fast to find anything you need. Worth every cent. If I rememebr it was just over 200 zumas.I put my own stronger levers in it. I bought an empty one and put my own tools in it.
  5. never use a saddle bag or camelback...... But found a really cool LEZYNE wallet that keeps everything I need in a easy to find place, no more scrathcing in a ziplock bag. I keep the wallet in my shirts middle pocket. Its Very compact. I use the "phone pouch" for all the small bits on my list. In it is the following: http://www.bikerumor.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Lezyne-Smart-Wallet-Loaded-stock.jpg Small Lube Multi Tool plier - extra small Bike Tool 2 Tyre levers Quicklink 4 small Cable Ties Valve Core and Removal tool Gator Tool and Plugs Glueless patches Bomb and inflator Spare dropout R100 I have a spare 29er tube taped to my seatpost. its a lot of stuff but I have NEVER been screwed when something went wrong and I am carrying a small pouch with everything i could ever need on a ride.
  6. Donation done....... every drop fills a bucket...
  7. Geax and Stans? never in a million years... thats like Zuma and Zille getting married, it aint never gonna happen. If you do by some miracle find a gorilla to help you get them on you will never get them off without the help of a 2000w angle grinder and a crowbar. plus if you ever have a sidewall cut on the trails and you need to put in a tube get ready for a long walk home. Rather get a set of Maxxis Ikons, 1 tyre lever and a hand pump and presto, 2 minutes and you're ready to ride.
  8. I think overall it was a really good event. Considering the 3000 riders it was much better than some events of 500 riders. Started from C for the marathon and didnt have eny route / bottleneck issues, which was great considering the enormous amounts of single track. This is still one of my favourites in Gauteng. Only issue was parking to get into the venue but can I complain if I didnt get up early enough?
  9. I rode Jhb critical mass last night and then did a nice easy 2 hour solo mtb ride this morning. No cellphone, No garmin, No HR strap, just the wind, the silence and the rolling wheels. It was a good time to just contemplate what has happened. Life must now go on......
  10. Isn't Critical Mass endorsed by the authorities? I will be there tonight and at the official ride.
  11. I wonder what actually happened. Who made the mistake?
  12. Well said Peaches, 100% spot on. We are not dealing with cyclists, taxi drivers or motorists, we are dealing with people. When we are not on our bikes we are motorists and when we are, do we obey the rules of the road 100%, NO most of us do not, I know I dont. Change starts with us. Let us be the example when we are on our bikes. Instead of giving the finger to motorists when they hoot at cyclists riding 3 abreast ride in single file. There is no quick fix to the situation. Attitudes will not change overnight, it will take years. Our road infrastructure was never designed to accomodate cyclists. We need to take responsibillity for our own safety in whichever way we can and not expect others to do so. If cyclists expect equal rights on the road then they should have equal responsibillities on the road (which we currently do not). Cyclists riding through red robots or not stopping at stop streets should be subject to the same sanction as motorists. My 2c. Man, I am going to miss Burry, what a legend. Those Spez shoes will never be filled. Ever......
  13. I agree, Route 66 is a local Gauteng ride and not hard at all. Great start but no village, you sleep at home so lacks the stage race vibe. 3 Towers is superb.. .....Its the best I have ridden rand for km, vibe and fun. cant wait for this year again.......
  14. well done, thats a sick looking cyclocross machine.
  15. For sure! We need 3 power teams. Maybe its time for RE:CM and Westvaal Columbia to contract more guys.
  16. 100%. BS is a good guy who has had some rough deals in the past. He has really had a vision for his team and now it being realised. Itec and Fedgroup have been a big supporter of BS and Brandon Els is a firm supporter of KE so if this partnership works out they are going to hot next year. Bridgitte and Brad in Mixed, Brandon and Kevin, Neil and ???. There is still one missing piece to this puzzle........
  17. Rode Epic in Velotex Red. Perfect, my butt was happy the whole way. Can't ask for more than that!
  18. Wow, this really is awesome news for BS, KE and Team Fedgroup. Don't underestimate BS, he has had a rough few years and lots of bad luck. Didn't ride for 2 of he last 3 months before Epic and still rode himself into top 10. He is very strong and a lot wiser now. They really could challenge for top 3 at Epic. Not sure how NM will fit into the picture, maybe James Reid is just what they need. That would make Team Fedgroup almost untouchable on the local scene! I wonder how they got out of the Momsen deal for 2013. On FS for Epic it will make for interesting watching! Big up to Scott Field from Fedgroup for extending their support of SA Mtb. Thanks DG!
  19. Work comp, home comp, wife's tab, my iPad and 2 x phones! Hahaha, democracy at work!
  20. Got another 4 done. You had better win this dude!
  21. Actually, cyclists riding in the middle of the road 3 or 4 abreast or not stopping at stop streets or traffic lights are a problem. Yes, I want licences so those idiots giving the majority who ride responsibly a bad name can be identified and dealt with or would you prefer not to have any licences for bikes, cars or trucks and lets just have anarchy? I dont want compromise, I want rules to be followed.
  22. I am 99% sure its a Rinkhals (the hood is visble and the colouring is right). We have them on our property and I relocate them regulary if they come too close to the house. There actually quite common but nocturnal so if you see one in the day rest asured there are plenty more around. (Never seen a mouse or rat around our house) Actually came acros a decent size one on Saturday of about 1.5m and he quickly dissapeared into a hole. They can also spray venom so if you come across one, keep your sunnies on.
  23. I see a business opportunity here.......
