  1. OK cool, if thats what he meant and that statement wasn't his own opinion, then its my misunderstanding of his post. I find it strange that some vehicles using roads are licenced and some are not but both are subject to the same / similar rules and regulations. That doesnt make sense. Anyway, WE have to be responsible for our own behaviour on the road and not pass the blame for attitudes and perceptions of cyclists.
  2. Its freaking amazing how people pass responsibillity of whatever situation to others instead of taking responsibillity THEMSELVES........ ok now I need a cup of coffee.......
  3. Are you serious that cyclists do not need to educated?? So you would send your 10 year old kid out onto the roads and say "Dont worry Johnny, you dont need to know the rules of the road, the cars, trucks and busses will makes sure they dont hit you when youre riding in the middle of the road...." WTF?? FFS I give up......
  4. glad I am not the only who remembers this...... was done before and could be done in the future. Anyway it would be an excellent stream of taxation for the continued renovations to Nkandla. Maybe I should pitch the idea to JZ???
  5. hahaha, good point. even if its just the rider that gets licensed or even if it super cheap. Just some way to ID the rider. I remember this was the case in the 70's (yes I am that old ) that bikes had to be licensed.
  6. I agree with you 110% as all road users from Bikes to Trucks should be licensed and transgressors should be prosecuted for breaking the rules. When there is no recourse against breaking the rules then the rules will continue to be broken. Yes its an inconvenience, but it will save lives.
  7. it depends on the seal material. Anyway if you are going to go through the effort of a strip and respray rather strip the entire fork. I just did that to a old Rockshox Duke and it was worth it. Perfect job. If you really dont want to take it apart mask the seals really well with a quality tape before stripping.
  8. The situation in the Cradle is no different. I cycle and live there. Go and have a look any weekend how badly the cyclists behave on that road as if its their right to own the whole road. Yes, not all of the cyclists behave badly but if 3 or 4 do on a 20k stretch of road the perception has been created for the motorists. The large club rides are the biggest problem, riding from the verge to the middle line. God forbid any motorist to hoot at them to give way and you will have 30 cyclists giving you the bird - and then we wonder why the locals dump tacks all over the road? This would never have started to happen if the cyclists behaved themselves on the road. Lets not blame speeding cars, truck or busses for our own poor behaiviour. No reasonable person would have any objection to cyclists using any public road if they stuck to the rules and at least offerred an apology instead of the middle finger when they make a mistake on the road. Now that would be a good start!
  9. Yip it is! Glad it worked so well. Dont worry that it takes some time, that just means more time to ride and drink beer while it does its job. Nice job on the crank BTW.
  10. Great Stuff SyncSA. Lets find this SOB and drag him naked through the streets with our bikes. this sh&t makes me sooo mad. Go Hubbers.....
  11. Its a pleasure guys, enjoy the rebuilds!
  12. Yip, plus I am changing my gearing to a 32:12 Bring those 29ers......ffs....hahaha
  13. That was fun on Sunday. Its what riding a bike should be . By the way that rigid fork I have will fit so guess what I am doing this week........
  14. Jislaik guys, you dont play fair! I go on my 1st proper SS ride with JC and Rouxtjie on my lekker little 26er and then on the way back the okes say "try this Niner or ride this GT" just to "see what its like"........ faaark those SS 29ers are fast compared to a SS 26er even with a 32:16.........these boys are going to fully responsile for my irresponsible financial management in the not too distant future........
  15. I have just started this SS thing and really loving it. Its....pure....simple.... and reminds me of my 1st BMX. Feel like a kid again and having way too much fun for someone of my age. I just got a frame, scratched around in the garage, raided the unwanted box at the LBS, forked out R1500 on a new crank, chain, SS conversion kit and tensioner and off I went. Do it, you wont ever regret it......
  16. Sorry, but thats a bullsh$t statement from DG! Cycling is a confusing space?? WTF Make a decsion: clean or dope. FFS. Ban him for life.......
  17. I just moved up from 297th to 296th in the final standings of the 2012 Cape Epic! Whoop Whoop. Thanks DG
  18. Cresting Sterkfontein Hill on my SS faster than I can on my geared bike!
  19. They wear down like that in 500km??? WTF.... That means a replacement set every 2-3 weeks. Not a chance. Thats the most expensive tyre out there. My Contis or Maxxis last well over 3000km. To top it off they must weigh a ton too..... eish.....no thanks.
  20. Personally I would look for a good 26er 2nd hand or a 26er with a "lighter" wheelset. A 29er at that pricepoint is going to have heavy wheels and that is counter productive to the advantage a 29er gives you. My 2c.....
  21. Hi Guys, I will check with the lady arranging it for you in the morning as she is out of the office. Should be with you soon. Tx.
  22. Hi Guys, Is there anyone out there who will help me out by taking a fork down to OFM for me? I will drop it off at your place and arrange to have it collected from you. Thanks
  23. At the end of the day I think the SS has highlighted my weaknesses in pedaling technique as well as mental strength when the going gets tough. I worked harder on the climb and easier on the flats. Ave HR for the ride was in line with what I achieved on the 29 DS. I love the simplicity. Absolute silence from the drivetrain although my thumbs did look for shifters on more than one occasion.
  24. Today I commuted to work on my new SS for the first time. It was interesting. The route is 18km and it includes a climb of 300m ascent over a 6km stretch, the rest is pretty flat. I am running a 32:16 on a 26er. Now the interesting part is that the commute took me 56 minutes where as my usual commute on my 29er FS 3x10 takes me 60 minutes at a hard effort and around 65 minutes normally. Now does this mean that when it comes to the climb we chicken out to early and move to lower gear too soon? Dropping between 4 and 9 minutes over an hour ride is significant.
  25. I have used some low strength locktite on the bolts. Let's see how it goes.
