  1. Interesting. In theory, heavier wheels will be better on most routes that does not have big mountains. Clinchers have also shown less rolling resistance than tubbies in the few tests that have been done. This goes against the traditional belief that light tubbies pumped extremely hard are faster. (he also ignored the Merckx/Amstrong thing of turning a lighter gear at a higher cadence) I like it!
  2. Lets hear those predictions! Im guessing Cancellara, Wiggins, Martin
  3. U23 TT results: http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/uci-road-world-championships-2013/u23-men-time-trial/results: Very little effort & focus by organizers in SA on TTs, we should not expect any fireworks from our riders. It is important to develop TT skills if we want to see a South African do well in Grand Tours, though
  4. I dont think we will get to an F1 situation, cycling is more about the engine than the chasis. Dope has a colossal effect on the engine, though, imo they should focus on eliminating dope before messing with bike technology. UCI are clamping down on technology overzealously, 80mm rims will be removed from bunch racing next year. The problem I have with this is that they are corrupt, and can be "influenced" to act against certain equipment. Spinergy rims were banned for no good reason, 3:1 ratio enforced on tt bars, posts, cranks in 2010 because 3T made a tt bar somebody did not like. Why not not have TTs on standard road bikes then? Either go standard, or leave engineers freedom to innovate. Either or, imo.
  5. Something to ponder: Would OGE have won if they also had Zipps like Omegapharma? Sub9 disk, firecrest profile and dimples make a bit of a difference according to Zipps tunnel tests.
  6. I also wonder what was up with the second last team. 33 Utensilnord Ora24.eu 0:07:55.62 34 Cyclingteam Jo Piels 0:08:34.65 35 Velo Club Sovac 0:11:51.68 (sorry for the pun)
  7. Damn, how close was that! Impey's team almost got the gold.
  8. I dont like the suspension seatpost concept, though. I understand folks wanting to soften up their old hardtail while saving for a dual, but to buy new I would rather get a dual sus in the first place.
  9. I like the colours
  10. Great, happy miles.
  11. Basson had some great moments. Too bad about his defensive blunders. Only question for this cup is if the Bulls will be last or second last. However, they have been here before, in the late 90s before HMeyer built them back up. I dont know if Pienaar & co could manage that. The bigger question for me: Are the Bulls on the way to a 2014 S15 disaster, too?
  12. Wait a minute. It depends on what year ultegra. If it is old pre-2000 ultegra (same year as the frame), you wont get spare parts for it. It was 9 speed back then, so any replacement items like casette, chain, shifters will have to be Sora, which is behind Tiagra. It also could have a 1" headset, which is not so common today. Caad4 got a 1 1/8" headset and fork in 2001. Imo an old 9 speed gruppo should be a "free to a good home" item. The caad4 is a nice frame, should hold up well. I am not certain, but the fork may still have an aluminium steerer, an old technology which I dont like. Such an old frame could have lots and lots of kms on it, be careful.
  13. Best answer so far. Most of us choose equipment based on things pro's use. It is still possible to ride fast with 2 or even 3 blades in front.
  14. I agree, esp. Since a lot of those miracles came from the same place - 7 TDFs after cancer, a 150km solo break, now the oldest ever GT winner.
  15. 3 towers
  16. Horner went faster than Contador on the Angliru today: 2013:12,8 km@9,6%---43:06---average speed 17.82 km/h(Chris Horner) 2008:12,8 km@9,6%---43:12---average speed 17.78 km/h(Alberto Contador) Conto broke away earlier and went full gas, Horner would outclimb the doped Contador in his prime. Fastest ever, was: 2000:12,8 km@9,6%---41:55---average speed 18.32 km/h(Roberto Heras) (Im not sure that Herras' records still count) ,
  17. Bulls getting beaten comfortably by 14 WP :-/ Bulls backline looked completely useless on attack till Blommetjies came on.
  18. Defence was poor overall, and the kicking game was very bad from the whole team. It used to be a strength of our game. Not kicking out on penalties, aimless kicks up field, and not putting the ball far enough into the crowd to prevent quick throw ins. Pienaar is the weak link, Vermaak made a difference once he came on.
  19. Horner's team should withdraw him from the race imo.
  20. Pena Cabarga 2013:5,9 km@9,3%---16:42---average speed 21.20 km/h(Chris Horner) 2011:5,9 km@9,3%---17:15---average speed 20.52 km/h(Chris Froome) 2010:5,9 km@9,3%---17:01---average speed 20.80 km/h(Joaquim Rodriguez) - prev record So he climbs faster than Froome
  21. It would be great if folks selling or marketing this could post their contact details etc. too, just in case the Hawks need to contact you after a while.
  22. (rant off. At least he gives hope to all athletes in their late 30s - the right supplements can help you reach your athletic peak in your 40s!)
  23. AND he broke the record up the climb, ( but only has one previous top 10 finish in a grand tour before this ). Interesting that he waited till 42 to start breaking climbing records. Is it a coincedence that he blasts away not long after a rest day? How naïve must one be to belive this BS?
  24. Fulcrums. They are made by Campagnolo, so no problems with pedigree. If you are open to other suggestions, Shimano DuraAce C24 is the best one to go for imo.
  25. Its not the frame material but the engine that determines speed. A good quality aluminium frame is better than a low quality carbon one. If I had to buy a new frame, Cannondale CAAD10 would be at the top of my list.
