  1. Event Name: Van Gaalen's Dirt Fest When: 22 November 2013 - 24 November 2013 Where: Van Gaalens Cheese Farm, Hartbeespoort, North West Category: MTB Entries open 29 September General Info The idea behind VG's Dirt Fest is to offer a jam packed weekend of of Mountain Biking for the whole family. This race will be different, it has a Night stage, Segment stages, XCE event and a Marathon. Eric has put together routes that's not overly technical but fun, fast, flowing and perfect for anybody who wants to try out a stage race. Dad, mom and the young ones can do the whole weekends stages, that's a promise! This is the perfect race for 14 years+ as they are able to ride all three days. Goodie bags, proper water points, demo bikes, great prizes, massages, special spa packages, kids entertainment, awesome medals and great riding awaits riders. Kidz Zone The only problem with the KidZ ZOne will be to get them back in the car. We have built a funky obstacle course for the young ones and organized lots of extra activities for them for the whole weekend. It will be supervised by people who do kids events every weekend. We'll also a special Night Frisbee game happening the friday night after the night stage. Routes We know that everyone has been riding hard, tuff, super challenging routes at Van Gaalen lately. So we've decided to put together the best routes for the event and not necessarily the hardest ones. Also a brand new concept will be the segment stages! 6 stages will be timed separately, climbs, single tracks, descents and a flat sprint! This will be fun!!! You can ride with your buddies, race the segments, and then ride together to the next one! Lot's of bragging rights up for grabs...There will also be a FREE XCE race on the Saturday after the Segment race for those who want to give it a go! THE BEST PART OF ALL...A WEEKEND ENTRY WILL ONLY BE R450. Want to know more... http://www.trinitycycles.co.za/ Go to Event Page
  2. The 35km and 18km route profiles will be up next week. The idea with these two races is to make the race as much fun as possible. No major climbs, nice flowing single track, lot's of space to pass other riders. Eric will be putting all the nice to ride stuff together for these two events. Good for the whole family.
  3. Here's the scoop on some of your questions. 1. (the old tant miems) Has a new single track section... 2. The whole section in the game farm we DON'T ride the same route as the nissan, it's a new one. (only in the Cradle Quest) 3. We don't go down that steep rocky hill. We go down a steep bulldozed gravel road...60km/h + (faster and less technical)(only in the CQ) 4. Not nearly as rocky. 5. Not oom piet! Eric calls it Vulture Canyon. (only do this in the cradle quest) 6. The section going to Vulture canyon is also new single track! The route is tough, but it just keeps you busy the whole time!
  4. Hi Everyone, I did the 70km route with Eric on Thursday and it's really a awesome route! 60% of these trails you will only ride at the Cradle Quest! Lot's of new single track, one super fast downhill, the jeep tracks offer good climbs and lots of space to pass! The water tables will also be something to look forward to...especially the one on top of the mountain with the cleanest water ever! And one little stinger at the end...STEEP! 70km Route Profile 35km and 18km route profiles will be up in the next few days.
  5. The starting times for the different distances will be available within the next week. There will be groups for all the different distances. As for the medals...we'll work on that. I'm also confirming the profiles and routes with Eric in two weeks time. He promised me a new floating bridge for the race...one that floats!

  10. How about using something so natural, like my own blood, that's available to everyone! It should be a legal - non - supplement -enhancement - thing!
  11. Thanks, see you all there. Hopefully I finish this one
  12. Does anybody have more info on this event. Stuff like starting times, entry fees etc.? Or will I be the only one at the race this weekend

    Babba's Lodge

is the route 3 laps or 2?
  19. Never before ridden route, brand new, hard as nails! Loads of single track, serious downhills, serious climbs! expect something like the Magalies monster
  20. The 99 replaces the 96. That bike is the one the Merida team is testing at the moment... Frame changes is to save some weight on the frame and give it a bit more travel and probably allot more complex reasons I will never understand
  21. +1 The frame weighs in at 1.85kg, not bad for a d/s

http://www.lightbike-magazine.es/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=502:merida-ninety-nine-2012&Itemid=25 Some serious changes on a winning formula...?
  23. I would go for the Giant, like there frames allot. The Merida One-twenty is also a good option at R18 200. You can spec the bike up with t/less and all the other stuff for the same amount of money. http://www.merida-bikes.com/en_int/bike/2011/13/MTB+Full+Suspension/ONE-TWENTY+1500-D
  24. I Know Eric very well and he has taken over the event. He is doing the route - new one - and is organizing the race! It will be awesome, this is now His own race and i think it's going to be one of the better ones around! It's a one day event with the usual marathon and half-marathon distances! Let's support the guy, it's going to be tough, but definitely worth it! He has provided us with awesome routes for a long time, now he has his own race! Let's support the man!
  25. It's not really public property if you know what mean. But join one of our group rides one Saturday morning and I'll show you the route. We always leave from the shop, safest place to park your car and have awesome coffee after a winter morning ride...
