  1. I was there in November, perfect a little wet to firm everything up and make some fun mud, but warm enough to make it an all day into the evening riding conditions. Feb and March its much dryer and warmer. Anytime in the summer is great. If you're planning to go for the world cup make sure you take your bike! There's a very cool place outside Auckland called Woodhills too...very fun.
  2. This is what i'm building my new machine for.
  3. Rotorua, New Zealand....the trail map...this place is out of this world. At the end of day 1 i was torn between never leaving and not being able to walk. Its just like Tokai but 10 times the size and with a whole bunch of specially designed technical trails, and little practice obstacles, plus the World Champ downhill course from a few years back if you feel like taking the special flashing light airlift route out... its insane.
  4. Have you neede any after market help from Fulcrum? How easy are spares to get?
  5. Yes, its me again...thanks to all those comments on my last XT thread (and the many other threads on XT wheels) I have been offered another set of similarly priced wheels and want to see what people think of the Fulcrum Red Metal 3. Haven't seen many on the trails. All your advice is very helpful, so thanks to all for the last thread's comments.
  6. Right good stuff.... The general consensus is not to buy XT wheels too expensive to fix when they break, which they have been doing quite a lot lately. Mavic are apparently out as their bearings are rubbish and need very regular maintenance. Not got the cash to build Hope II on ZTR Crest or olympic, got a quote from a wheel builder who said at least R4,500 for any custom set. so what are the choices.... DTSWISS X1800? Too heavy AC's coming up again and again...anyone broken one of these yet? Fulcrum Red Metal 5's???
  7. It does look like alot of support for AC. I only wish I could actually go and ride both of these before buying, its annoying hearing long lists of pros and cons without my own first hand experience of either, the wrong choice means a serious pain in the posterior...and wallet. AC lighter but not stronger hey? I'm a light rider (65k's) but don't want to worry about going to true them everytime i catch some air and/or land badly.
  8. Seriously how can spokes be so expensive? when you can get 36 DT Swiss for R230????
  9. Howsit all, Just about to get myself a set of M775 XT wheels, seen there's mixed opinioins about the hubs. How oftern should i look to get them serviced (in k's) and how easy is it to service them oneself? Any special tools or tough to get parts i should know about?
  10. dude, that it awsome but you may have to employ a couple of armed guards to ride with you..its exactly not what you'd call inconspicuous hey.
  11. How's it all, Just found out i'm going to be all on my lonesome over christmas in central JHB. I'd love to get out on the spruit on christmas day and was wandering if anyone else would be up for a couple hours riding on christmas morning?
  12. Now when the ladies at the water stop look like this then i reckon its worth faking a cramp...heart attack or drowning in the paddling pool
  13. Is it me or do those girls look seriously young? a little too close to 16 for my liking. Nubile and athletic yes, jail bait not so much fun.
  14. Just got the FSA SLK Carbon Ti, really nice and comfy for a lightweight race saddle, looking forward to getting a good few marathons out of it. Would have liked the K-Force but couldn't find one here. I also ride a quick HT and the FSa has just the right flex in the middle of the seat.
  15. Where exactly is that jump/obstacle?
  16. Reckon all of us out there shouldn't get such a hard time for getting unbranded chinese carbon frames. After a bit of research I found the one i have is made by the same people using the same mould as the scott scale, just with different cable clips. Its good to know that all those who look down on anyone who doesn't have the 'trending right now' branded bike have exactly the same product and that we are all on a level playing field...its how you ride it and not what it looks like on the back of the car at the end of the day.
  17. Morning Hubbers, Looking for some advice on how to eliminate a fairly uncomfortable cable situation. My cables run down the top of the top tube and every now and then when i need to stop abruptly my inner thigh drags along the cable often causing a cut or rather irritating abrasion. When i have asked my LBS to run full cable housing they said that the brackets for the cables couldn't be changed or adapted because they were installed on a carbon frame. Apparantly this is a problem with carbon frames. Any ideas of how to either change cable brackets on a carbon frame to allow a full cable housing? and if so who could undertake such a job? Or any ideas on how to cover the cable another way?
  18. She is beautiful, how much does it weigh? wishing you many hours of happy haunting.
  19. The rapid rise is... http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=20699 the model number is the M770 its just the rapid rise version of the XT RD which has the spring working in the opposite way, great for up shifting quickly. I've got the standard rapid fire XT pod shifter which is also model number M770...strangely. Those are the model numbers on CRC. i'd double check if to confirm.
  20. If you get the XT rapid rise RD with Xt shifters then you can hit the double up shift for the hills and the two way release for the quick down shift. I find that quite combination quite smooth.
  21. Thanks for the offer Weight Weenie. I'm near Randburg for the next few days so which LBS do you go to?
  22. me too and a old tube wrapped around my chainstay with...yes a cable tie holding it in place.
  23. Does it really make a difference to our peace of mind/lives/riding if people here think we're cool or uncool? I seriously hope not.
  24. I'm actually looking for the white. Wehere did you get yours in JHB?
  25. Do you know where in woodmead it is in relation to Makro or PnP Hyper?
