  1. Looking to send my carbon frame to get repaired from JHB to Bloem, do any of you lot know of the best way to send it? Courier, PostNet, Post Office? and how uch you'd expect to pay?
  2. Nice job, I wonder if it repels dirt too?
  3. Howsit all, Merry Christmas to start off. Right, cracked my carbon frame about 2 inches from the rear wheel dropout on the brake side. Does anyone know of anyone able to do a good job of repairing this so i can thrash to my usual level and not worry everytime i catch some air? I'm based in JHB but will be in CT for a while in the new year. Anyone had any similar repairs and have an idea about price?
  4. Is it even legal to have a shop opening without promo girls?
  5. XT is only 30g lighter than the SLX! thats quite surprising....i thought in the region of 100g. Oh well not much point me upgrading to just that...i think i'll keep saving for the FSA K-Light or Truvative carbon noir. At the moment i'll save more weight with a pedal upgrade. You'll have to post some pics once it's in the 11kg bracket...
  6. I'm running the SLX at the moment and want to upgrade at some point soonish (dependant as always on bank manager). How much lighter is the truvative than the SLX crank? I couldn't find a weight for it on CRC or CWC.
  7. Running with puppy is still at the top of the list i reckon...
  8. track stand practice at stop streets and traffic lights...added pressure...and embarracement, mostly at the lights on Witkoppen in Paulshof before heading over the bridge...had lots of laughs and a couple of ladies offering their support...
  9. Seen seriously mixed reviews on MTBR.com Any thoughts on what works best?
  10. i have a ritchy carbon seatpost but it doesn't have any torque guide on it. What is the torque guide for the saddle attachment and the seat post clamp?
  11. Isn't the other half of the point of having quick release wheels so that you can just throw it in the back of the bakkie/car?
  12. I'm with Ellis on this one, when was it?
  13. Parhaps they were all called jake?
  14. Why don't you buy Gummibear's Fulcrum Red Metal 3's at R2300 and then some more toys until you hit your R4g budget?
  15. I've been working on the sit heel touch method.... Sit on the saddle and drop the pedal to its lowest height, without rocking your hips and with no shoes on your heel should just touch the pedal top when your leg is straight, then do the other side...no real idea how accurate it is but it seems to work so far.
  16. Where can you go in JHB for a proper setup?
  17. ...put up with the worst customer service on the planet and made to feel guilty about wanting anything from your waiter.
  18. You instinctivly lock all doors as soon as you get in the car and do a circuit of the block before driving up your driveway.
  19. These are of course R60,000 plus machines and really only obtainable through extreme expense or sponsorship... I agree with Tarmac's ideas.
  20. and the servicing? have you needed to buy spares yet?
  21. Ha Ha, I reckon i'd get mine done as an Emmelle, my first bike (when i was 8) rediculous numbers of bright colours and rust.
  22. WynieSteyn are those Fulcrum Red metal 3's or 5's? How are they? thinking of getting myself a set?
  23. Plus...was having similar discussion with some guys at the pub, it seems the bikejacking people have a pretty good idea of what they're looking for...i.e. top of the range makes and models. Is it time to start dressing down bikes instead of putting effort into blinging our toys? Given they (the thieves) get only a couple of seconds to evaluate the worth of the machine.
  24. During the week i mostly see oaks on riding on their own. I do agree that one has to stay alert but there's only so much you can do. We're still vulnerable. I think we should start asking people how much their bike's weigh including protection... I've been operating on the naive premise that i'm invincible.
  25. I ride the spruit and other venues in JHB regularly and the missus has been encouraging me to carry some sort of self defence equipment either on my bike or with me when i ride. How many of you actually carry some sort of defence equipment/weapon/pepper spray on you? and how useful is this against someone with a gun? its useless in your backpack so do you mount it on your top bar or keep it in your jersey pocket? I know one guy who used to carry his 9mm but I'm not prepared to cycle with a gun.
