  1. Hi Squier, Hotspot definitely have stock although limited flavours. They confirm that they have stock of Marathon. We will get them to stock up on flavours. Regards, Jeroen
  2. USN bought shares in the business. I bought the shares back. They have no involvement or relationship with Cadence Nutrition whatsoever at this point.
  3. Hi IQ, I'm glad to hear you are enjoying our Revive. We do not have any product similar to 32GI. 32GI uses isomaltulose as a primary ingredient. This form of carbohydrate has not been shown to have any benefit. In fact, quite the opposite. The research is quite clear and unequivocal. http://www.cadencenutrition.com/fact-vs-fiction If you are looking for a product at a similar price then our CarboFuel would be the choice. Regards, Jeroen
  4. On your other point: There are only 4 brands that I know of that use a scientifically validated carbohydrate formulation: Cadence Nutrition Hi-5 Gu Powerbar I would recommend any one of those 4 products as they are all equally good. Although I hope you buy ours. It's cheaper, tastes great and it's an SA product. And we test for contamination with WADA prohibited substances as well. Thanks, Jeroen
  5. Hi Squier, Caffeine is probably the most ergogenic (performance enhancing) substance that is not WADA prohibited. In fact, it was prohibited for many years and then taken off the list due to the fact that it is just too easy to ingest it accidentally and many athletes were testing positive by accident. The problem with caffeine is that too much can actually inhibit performance. This normally occurs at doses above 6mg/kg. In addition, if you have an abnormal heart rhythm it can be a dangerous substance to ingest in high doses. We therefore only include it in our gels and then separately as our Espresso Caps. Athletes can then make a decision on exactly what dose they want to ingest. Regards, Jeroen
  6. Hi Guys, I saw another thread about another company and claims etc. Some people were were saying there is no independent peer reviewed research from reputable journals to back nutrition claims. Ahem… http://www.cadencenutrition.com/the-science At Cadence Nutrition we ONLY include ingredients that are validated by solid science. Thanks for the support. Jeroen
  7. We need to update the list. There are many new stores stocking. Feel free to contact us via the website and we will direct you to your closest LBS that has stock.
  8. Hi Rawbone, We are currently overhauling the entire range to reduce sweetness and make everything more palatable during hot conditions. In addition, every one of our products is being relaunched in 100% natural versions. Same performance but without any artificial flavour, colour, sweetener or preservative. The following products are available already as per above ethos (you can identify them as they have a little green bar at the bottom of the label): Marathon - Natural Citrus Marathon - Passion Fruit (just arrived) Carbofuel - Natural Citrus Carbofuel - Red Berry Protein Fuel - Dark Chocolate Classic Energy Gel - (doesn't have the green bar on the label but has been 100% natural from day 1 of launch) Coming soon: Marathon Natural Citrus single serving sachets (90g - 750ml) Revive in natural versions of chocolate and vanilla (taste is even better than current versions. I know…its hard to believe). CarboFuel Energy Bar - Cranberry (coming mid March)
  9. MALE CYCLISTS WANTED FOR UCT RESEARCH For a study evaluating the relationship between intrinsic factors, performance, comfort and economy in relation to static and dynamic whole body kinematics in cyclists. Study outline The study aims to provide information regarding the changes in the joint angles from a static to a dynamic position as well as recording the various cycling-related outcomes during an hour long cycle between recreational and elite cyclists. Testing includes: - Laboratory visits to test peak oxygen consumption and other measurements - Two 60min steady state rides a week apart at 70% peak power output - EMG measurements, oxygen consumption and 3D joint angle ranges will be taken. Those interested in participating should: · Males aged 18 to 45 years of age. · Recent Argus time of no longer than 4hrs30min. · Minimum training load of at least 4 hours per week on average in the 3 months preceding the trial. · No change to bicycle set-up in last three months, and be comfortable in current set-up. · Subjects will only be recruited if the relative peak power output produced during preliminary testing is greater than 3.6W/kg. Benefits of participating in the study include: · A comprehensive report of all personal test results will be made available to each participant after the study. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: March 2015 If you are interested in taking part in the study and would like additional information, please contact: Wendy Holliday wendy@sciencetosport.com Tel: 0742964274
  10. Hi Harry It's perfectly possible to do a prolonged endurance ride on nothing at all. Never mind honey and caffeine. You just have to go slow enough to allow fats and proteins to be converted into glucose by the liver and for fats to be oxidised as a fuel source. Honey's carb composition is approximately 50/50 fructose and glucose. This isn't a poor choice in terms of the rate of absorption of these carbohydrates. The ideal is 33/66 but with the glucose in the form of maltodextrin. The addition of caffeine is also ergogenic. Caffeine is the most potent legal ergogenic aid. The problem with honey is that it is very concentrated. Both due to the inherent low water content and because the carbs are all monosaccharides (single unit sugars). As a result it is hyperosmolar and will result in fluid moving from blood and tissues into the GIT during the digestive process. It will also result in slower gastric emptying rate (movement from the stomach to the small intestine), slowing the absorption of the otherwise good carb composition. So in short. If you are happy to cruise, then there is nothing wrong with that strategy. For race day stick to a more appropriate and successful formulation.
  11. That said, we will try to formulate our bars as close to the optimal composition as possible.
  12. Eating an energy bar is a good way to relieve any feeling of hunger that may still occur after drinking fluids or gels. However, most bars are not formulated to provide carbohydrates and electrolytes in concentrations that are optimal. They should therefore be used in training and very prolonged races to satisfy hunger but not specifically as a performance aid.
  13. To achieve a good flavour using natural flavouring and sweetener is very challenging. Although there is no definitive evidence that artificial flavours are in any way harmful, we are working hard to bring 100% natural versions of all of our products to market. The first of these will be available in a few weeks in the form of: Natural citrus Marathon Natural citrus CarboFuel Protein Fuel Let us know what you think of the taste. We have spent over a year refining these flavours.
  14. Hi Benjamin, You can use Marathon for longer events and train using CarboFuel. The carbohydrate composition in both products is the same 2:1 ratio and they have similar electrolyte concentrations as well. The primary difference is the additional protein in Marathon. You can even mix products. A good strategy is to start with Marathon early on in events and then switch to CarboFuel in the second half of the event when you are closer to your limit. As you fatigue you will produce more epinephrine to try to mobilize fuel resources and you will divert more blood away from your GIT. Using a more readily absorbable solution such as CarboFuel will place less stress on the GIT and maximize carbohydrate delivery when you need it most. Regards, Jeroen
  15. Hi Hubbers, Just to give some clarity to the comments above: Although most of our revenue was generated through Dischem, it was our strategic decision to no longer sell product through them. The shelf space provided to our brand was extremely limited and their staff are incentivised to sell our opposition's brands. The floor staff also lack any experience in endurance nutrition and could not advise appropriately regarding the scientific virtues of our product range. Selling through Dischem also alienated the cycle retailers who cannot compete with Dischem on price and we are primarily a cycling brand. Distribution through Omnico has already been excellent and their new B2B distribution system is highly regarded with respect to ease of ordering and competence in terms delivery times and reliability. Any negative sentiments are based on past systems that have been resolved. We look forward to launching some great new products in the coming weeks to months: Protein Fuel - An all natural whey protein in dark chocolate flavor. Natural Citrus Marathon - Our Marathon product in 100% natural version with a very subtle citrus taste (for those who want a low level of sweetness) Natural Citrus CarboFuel - As above Single serving sachets of Marathon Energy Bars (by year end) If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on this forum.
  16. There are 2 adverts therefore please look at both links.
  17. Anyone know how to post pics in the Hub. Functionality seems to have gone.
  18. Hi Baraka, It is important to realize that not all back pain is caused by an incorrect bike fitting. Therefore there is no way of guaranteeing that a bike fitting will resolve your problem. Riding in the drops requires a fair degree of flexion in your lumbar spine and if you have any injury to a lumbar disc or a disc prolapse, this will be very likely to cause discomfort. Can you confirm whether your pain is in your upper or lower back and whether you experience pain on the bike or also after riding?
  19. Somebody had a post about this a little while ago. You can find the correct formula here: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/755988 But be aware that the formula is dependent on the method used to assess PPO. Different protocols elicit different values for PPO (which is an arbitrarily defined value based on maximal work load achieved during an incremental protocol). Longer protocols or step protocols result in lower values and vice-versa. This manuscript's formulae are applicable to a 20W/min continuous ramp protocol.
  20. If they only did the ErgoFiT report and then built up the bike there is a 5% chance that the fit is not correct. That is why an ErgoFiT also includes a 5 point check to assess whether any parameter is incorrect. It sounds like the second part was not completed.
  21. Hi Leona, Which email address did you send a request to? We normally respond to all queries. Regards, Jeroen
