  1. Francois Du Toit *(Du Toit Cycles) in Cape Town - very good builder, but be prepared to pay!!!
  2. Congrats to everyone who rode today! Did the 45km on Friday, and that was hard enough! On a side note: what exactly is Club Cappuccino? Just wonering, 'cause I saw a couple of shirts with the logo on, and it is a supporting sponsor... Thanks.
  3. Recently had a rear wheel built ata store in Durban. Charged me for the spokes and rim-tape and a flat rate for the wheel build and true. Could not have been more pleased Pm me if you want details.
  4. In most cases, you get what you pay for. At the extreme end of performance, such as for someone like Burry Stander, ceramic bearings could make a (miniscule) positive difference to performance and efficiency. As with most thing cutting edge, the added performance comes at a significantly higher price. If you are in the middle to upper range in terms of ability, I would say that the added cost does not outweigh performance bonus. Chris King products are the bomb, and I would like to have them all, but I just can't rationalise the cost. SLX and/or XT, correctly installed, will provide excellent service, are reasonably priced, and look okay. Hope looks cool, functions well and costs a fair bit. Chris King components are a thing of beauty, are built to last and are efficient in their stated purpose. The choice then is this: if you have the cash go for the Chris King, but know it will not improve your performance markedly. The creaking could be anything, but most often boils down to the installation. My (long) 2c......
  5. Hello all, A question for those knowledgeable about wheelbuilding: Can one lace any road rim to a disc hub (XT or the like), or are there specific rims that are exclusively suited to their use? I would like to build disc equipped road rims for a bike I am planning to build at year end. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. B.
  6. Sparrow's F*rt!!! around 3am depart from Dbn on the bus, I think..... Website does not have a definite departure time
  7. CWC rules! Ordered, got all relevant, personalised confirmation emails and free delivery, nogal! 36 hrs from CT to Durban - excellent service Great prices on some items too.
  8. I have bought from him in the past - he's a real character! Good guy. Loves bikes, but hard to budge on pricing. PM me if you want more details. Cheers.
  9. 1st choice:Cotic Solaris! (853) 2nd Chocie: Singular Swift (4130) 3rd choice: Inbred 29er (4130) 4th: Ragley - and only cause it's a bit pricier with the Ti frame. My 2c
  10. Anyone in Durban riding fixed/single regularly? Would dig to see if a fixed riding culture could develop here.
  11. Get JB to build a pair for you - you won't regret it. He built some road wheels for me in 09, and i haven't looked back. I started at 100plus, and have never had to true them.
  12. HI, Does anyone know what size bearings the crown race and headset race on an 80s Stronglight require? Cheers, B.
  13. As one who loves classic lugged steel, I love the look of your bikes. Maybe someday.....
  14. Hi, does anyone know of anywhere that has a stash of NOs and or classic bikes/frames etc in Dbn? I have scoured Urban Cycles clean, but need to look further afield. i have just finished a frankensteinish build of a Panasonic Dx5000, and finally got the hang of it, so want to build a more classically gorgeous bike. I love my bike, but want another, more beautiful one....does this make sense? Also, i have a bunch of bits to swap and or sell. Thanks, b
  15. I do, if you are still interested. Let me know. Cheers. b
  16. Doing the whole tour rout before the race - check out the Reve series on www.velodramatic.com - looks awesome. Also, London to Paris - looks like a great time. RAAM would be the ultimate endurance test.
  17. Excellent! Any idea as to eventual availability?
  18. Cool, thanks! Where'd he get it? I'll have to check in DBN.
  19. Hi, All Which does everyone think is the better buy: Cotic Soul Cove Handjob On-One Inbred Momsen 29er (threw this in there just for kicks - may be an option too...) On-one has pricing impossible to match at present, but the other two have their plus points too. Any feedback, experiences etc would be greatly appreciated. Riding will be mainly road and light trail (Giba/Holla),a few races a year etc. Not too much of the very rough stuff! I feel the need for a steel bike again! Let me know. Thanks a lot
  20. ZTR355's on Hope Pro 2s - get Johan Bornman to build them!
  21. Hi, all Anyone know of anyone who carries CINELLI in KZN? Thanks a lot
  22. Hey, all! A Big Up to Powercycles in Umgeni Rd, Durban for great service, reasonable prices, and going that extra mile! These guys make it worthwhile to shop at an LBS. Also, a cool place to perv at the Morewoods on the wall!!!!! Thanks to Vaughan and Dylan for the help and explanations to a certified/fiable newbie. Check 'em out! Cheers, Brett
