  1. Burry v Jaco Venter @ SA's in March. venter 1'10 quicker over 40k. Where does Burry rank in the world... top 10. Where does venter rank in tt... top 50?
  2. Christie, if you look at a course like Junior Worlds in Moscow (on th UCI site) there are some 50 significant turns per lap of 13km - boys about 10 laps and girls about 6. For the guys, assuming there is a fairly significant acceleration, 500w+ out of each corner for 10 laps, thats a lot of accelerating. Weight saving must surely be an issue here.
  3. Pork, not all metabolisms were created equal..... easy to talk if you don't have a problem genetically, (I don't). You may be right about output-input= weight loss, but it's not that easy for some.
  4. I think Stef showed muge maturity in what he did. He is destined for bigger things than a junior SA's title. He was there at the end and no-one can take that away from him. When he looks at the photo he will know he put the team above himself and was not prepared to break the trust shown him by Chris. This is a team of champions, already moulded by the time they were offered rides at Garmin.
  5. If the issue is as presented by the complainant, surely this becomes an issue for the CSA Road Commission to address. Their brief is to ensure SAFETY and FAIRNESS in racing. They are failing the pelaton by not pulling dangerous riding out, warning, fining and excluding if necessary. Racing is dangerous. Pickles' son was lucky. The person in a coma after the Macsteel not. Comms need to become more vigilant and in my opinion new managers should spend time in the comm cars taking notes as part of their course. The Comms often have too much to handle. In the Macsteel there was one comm alone looking after the ladies. Groot Lem?
  6. I just wasn't brought up to use rude words like poow and bhum, or drawl and ghut. I also happen to think that the use of vulgarity on public forums may be offensive to some, it may be against the rules and it's not nice, see. But I do sometimes swear, ok quite a lot, I won't lie.
  7. I know that, just avoiding the obvious use of vulgarity is all and all
  8. As they say "Elke vlieg op sy eie drawl". JB just cured me. I would imagine that tension as in 'tightness" and in evenness would be more critical with the lighter (revo) spoke?
  9. Mike Bradley has posted an overview of CSA financials for the last year. It would be interesting to see a breakdown of the budget vs actuals for dev compared to roadshows/admin/overseas trips. Roger developed Charlotte vd Merwe, maybe. And he speaks at the Eric van Enter closing ceremony, about development etc
  10. You will not get 20 in any of the u16/jun/vet ladies cats. Combining them would produce good racing, even in the 80km races. I think this would be a good way to attract girls (and ladies) into racing. Currently they (u16/jun girls) get demoralised when they go off the back of the u16 boys at the first attack, and then have to spend 2 hours riding alone. The standard would be quite even among the top Vet/junior ladies imho.
  11. Christie said - "For that matter, a sub minimum of 20 should be applied to all licenced cats - less than 20 riders in cat = no prizes. I think this could also be relevant to elite men & ladies - it is sort of pointless having a R10k first prize, but few riders competing." Did 4F say they should get R10k - I didn't see that. I think a token amount relative to the size of the field should be offered to encourage participation. Recognition in the form of a podium, with flowers, champagne or whatever is a must. The top "over 30's" have coaches, can hang with the elites and take their racing just as seriously as the guys. Perhaps to incentivise participation CSA should look at sponsoring/subsidising the oft forgotten categories in selected races.
  12. Other Vet women do, who do you speak for, idrive?
  13. "although females will be over rewarded" - Pinky, what exactly do you mean, that they deserve less because they can't go as fast as the guys, or what?
  14. Tennis - ladies are paid the same as men in Wimbledon - and they play less....... Your point is taken , but it's about recognition, even just a podium and a bunch of flowers. Imagine a prizegiving with only elite men and women. Who will stay to watch it?
  15. I know from experience that if organisers pput up and advertise a wider spread of reasonable prizemoney the entries do improve in the lesser categories
  16. I agree with 4feet. What I do believe is that for CSA to sanction a race there should be a formula/system that spreads the prize money across as many categories as possible. Pay your Elites R5000 and your Vet ladies R250 or whatever, but RECOGNISE them. It's not their fault competition doesn't pitch up. Another example is the Dome2Dome, where 5 u14 boys arrive, 1st,2nd and 3rd get podiums and prize money. A similar number of u16 and junior girls race and get no recognition (podiums, announcements or prize money). It's a regular occurrence in the "forgotten" categories just because the numbers are low. How do you think my daughter feels when she is (as an u16) races with the boys, who get podiums and money and she rides a storming ride (sometimes finishing in the bunch) and gets no recognition, no thank you, no well done, nothing. This is how, in spite of the talk, CSA carry out their growth strategy to encourage a higher standard among women in SA. The problem goes to the core of the belief system that women don't really belong on bicycles, rather in the pannekoek stand. If there is not enough competition, performance criteria should be set out (eg winning elite lady + 10% time - or whatever).
  17. fast one likely to be about 5 min shorter than 94.7 time
  18. Only Junior (u18), u23 and elite in march. All the rest, including the littlies in May. This is (I believe) to give those selected for worlds to focus and prepare properly.
  19. I agree, I'm saying this is what I was told. Remember they had a stand at the 94.7 expo...................... When I stopped at the stand I looked at the fake cyclist posters and said to an employee that they should put real cyclists on the cover. I was told that they are cyclists. So they believe they are on track based on who they believe their readership to be. Can't argue with that.
  20. My take is that their target market is rather a Men's Health reader than a confirmed OCC (obsessive compulsive cyclist). I believe they get complaints that some of their articles get too technical................ say no more
