  1. It is awesome, I do it at least once a week, ride from my place in North Riding around 4:30, through to Caltex on Witkoppen (near leslie) for a Seattle latte, and then hit the lonehill servitudes, and back home by 6. easy ride, good fun, and there's 2 of us hubbers doing it now *pre-sunrise over monte* a more rural setting would be nice too. and some good breakfast.
  2. My 1200 lumen Extreme Lights package just arrived! Now I can use a strapon on my head. Thanks H Unlike Southern Skies in Parys, April, where I had one of those R40 LED camping headlights from Game, and had to chase okes doing 2 x my speed for 30 seconds of light. No wonder we almost came last (thirty second to be precise).
  3. Maybe I should drop from 70km to 35km
  4. Google earth view of the 50 - 55km section.... haai sjoe
  5. reg complete, 70km. jinne hope i can finish.
  6. We have 5 people confirmed, waiting for 3 more before we register.
  7. I'll let you know how it went.
  8. Just a heads up, the "Enter Now" link on the blogspot site is to the 2011 event, here's the link for the 2012 - http://www.entrytime.com/index.asp?GoTo=EventInfo&EventID=3610 Nearly registered for last year's event
  9. ai ai.
  10. I'm in! my first hubbers event *moist eye*
  11. Yeah, I read through the rules and the closest i saw to that was about the requirement for the lady finishing 2 laps, so just wanted to clarify. I wonder if we can get away with dressing one of our whiney mates in a tutu.
  12. Would like to confirm that if we enter a 5-person team, 1 x female rider?
  13. I'm 1.86m and am riding a medium frame at the moment. its small, and I love it like that. (the FRAME).
  14. Hence different frame sizes and adjustable seats.
  15. I got this a few weeks back https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/41588-silverback-vida-build-up-29er/ Considering I was on this before, https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/41806-trek-24-speed-26er-entry-level-l/, I've sorta become addicted to riding. Now I just need to find someone to take the trek, to fund the next item on the list: computer (Bryton 35T or Edge 500), and then next year carbon frame + new fork.
  16. excuse any repetitions in this thread, i was too lazy to read the whole thing. From what I've heard, the northern section of spruit isn't safe, but I've ridden from the blairgowrie point (corner conrad / Jan Smuts) through to greenside without issues in the week afternoon and weekend mornings, there's a lot of people around, but I would be back before 6 / 6:30 if possible. Make sure to find that big rock on the way back and drop off it my mates directed me down there on my first ride a few months ago, and I sh** myself, but now its almost routine
  17. I see that the 35 is no longer listed on their site. So I'm guessing 20T or 40T is the one to go for, but the site doesn't give much info on the 40. Main differences? I'm thinking that the 20T might be a good deal if I can get a voucher to load
  18. ok, got it. thanks on the subject, what's the biggest benefit you get from GPS in a computer? planning prior to riding, navigation during the ride, or analyzing after? or a combination of all 3?
  19. and we just registered for the energizer night race on the same day
  20. I've done a little research on cadence and from what I understand in terms of cycling, its a measurement of the number of cycles (of the crank). I've also been investigating computers (e.g. Garmin Edge 500 or FR 305 - seen a lot of discussion of this in the forums, thanks for all the feedback ), and see that they have cadence sensors. Specifically, I've been looking at a SDM4 (foot pod) vs. GSC10 for use with FR305 - question 1 - would the SDM4 attached to a riding shoe somehow give an accurate measure of cadence on a bike, or is this module designed more for runners? And then I guess it would be a bit of a mission to attach to riding shoes. With regards to the GSC10 from the easygis site: "The GSC 10 attaches easily to your bike, where the cadence sensor detects signals from your wheel" but I thought cadence was based on crank cycles, not wheel cycles. Am I misunderstanding cadence, or does the gsc10 attach to the crank some how? I know the Edge is a much better option, but I'm leaning towards the FR because I could potentially get one for about half the price, and both offering HR, cadence and GPS (2nd hand FR & new GSC for R1200 vs R2700 edge500 bundle), and seems like a smarter option to go for (unless I'm overlooking something?)

    Heart Rate

it means change to a lower gear! decrease cadence and increase HR
