  1. Commasiares come at a steep prize easily between R 15000 and R 40 000 per races must also pay for accommodation, catering and travel. Paid by the organiser. Some make a living from it travelling all over getting paid and treated. The organiser pay calendar fees as much as R 5000 per race. They pay R 6 per rider to the provincial body and CSA. R6 gets split. Day license is R 35. Roughly R 5 goes to the organisers. Even though this is paid the yearly income for CSA is nothing to write home about. There is no money to do all the things they need to do. Would like to see the comparison between the income and expenditure statements of CSA, 94.7 and PPA. Cycling is the cash COW of many businesses who present races for "charity". What percentage go to charity and what percentage to the organisers and what to CSA. You are to happy to part with your money so that the organisers can get the bulk a bit to CSA and a bit to Charity. But very little goes back in cycling to promote your sport to send people overseas. To do development, etc.
  2. carbon29er, on 13 June 2013 - 02:50 , said: You're all over the place with the facts on this. You 1st state the PPA increased their fees and didn't pay it over to CSA, then The Argus charged the fee. Which is it? i pay my Argus entry and PPA subs together. What fee must be paid to CSA? R 75 per cyclists on your books for Recreation/CYCLOSPORT license. Why collect this as the cyclist have to pay directly to CSA and apply direct with CSA. What is the interest implication of collecting R 75 @cyclist for 20 000 cyclists? Factually this is the situation: Since the 2004 Constitution was adopted , tppa was trying to receive preferential treatment and wanted to dictate to CSA he PPA has paid the following amounts to CSA, for which it has received little or no benefit: 1. Initially, when CSA did not have any funds, PPA undertook and paid for the salary of CSA’s employees for a period of two years. The amount paid to CSA in this regard totalled R551 000; Great , and i commend them on that. Was there any benefits for PPA. 2. Calendar fees of R43 115; like every other promotor of cycles events but why didn't they pay before 2004? For how many races? 3. Membership levies of R2 128 087; see above For how many races at R 6 @ rider. How many races by PPA a year over how many years? 4. PPA has collected and paid to CSA day license fees of R66 416.see above @ R35 it is only 1900 odd day licenses over what period and how many races per year. See the newspaper says the bulk of the 35 000 Argus riders have to pay day licenses. How many races per year times how many riders? Sounds like a drop in the BUCKET. If the CSA constitution is upheld then: (a) “none of [PPA's] events will be able to take place as they will not have Provincial or National approval” (paragraph 3.12 e); and ( B) “effectively this means that the Cape Argus Cycle Tour will not take place without the approval and sanction of Western Cape and Cycling SA.” (paragraph 3.5) if they are within the csa structures it will be approved!!! Correctly pay your dues like anybody else. Present the race correctly and address issues like the ladies bunch every year. Do not support dopers. This year PPA took away lances 10th position but yet the winner served time for doping and the guy interviewing him on National Tv the same. How now? Dopers on pedestals? Eish. You have a beef with PPA, don't use it to hide the facts that PPA does a huge amount for all types of cyclists, CSA brief is to look after racers and elite cyclists and win medals. take the time to read all of my replies Wrong CSA's brief is to look after all cycling in this country even the little race around the church. PPA is a business and it is about the money. Of course they cry about their charity work. Ok so they are using cycling as a vehicle to generate funds for charity. But yet they do not want to pay all their dues. How much does the staff and owners and all the partners and the entry company and the timing company get. Is this correct. The court action is simply to protect PPA position to continue to exercise its autonomy (no autonomy they are a business asking CSA to present RACES AGAINST A SET SeT OF RULES AND FEES. PPA has no mandate from government regarding cycling. CSA is the mandated body. Try and host a rugby tournament at Newlands without consulting or paying WP an RugbySA their dues) over funrides, including timed fun rides, without regard to Western Cape Cycling and CSA. In particular PPA intends to exercise the right granted in clause 11.6.1 “in perpetuity” to “continue to carry on [PPA's] business; set and operate [PPA's] domestic fun ride calendars and generally operate and control all [PPA's] recreation tours; fun rides and league races (after consultation with the Road Commission)Can hardly be legal as the Road Commission is not empowered to make this deal. Why is therer a board of CSA?. but the Road Commission is a CSA structure. you can't have it both ways Nothing more. Nothing less. Wrong CSA with its affiliates is mandated to control and run cycling in South Africa as mandated by Government. If the Argus is stopped who stands to loose the most? CSA? I do not think so. PPA stays a business with a monopoly they are protecting. Look at all the things they have? Qualifying races for the Argus etc, etc, What is PPA's turnover per year compared to CSA.
  3. 50, 30, 10 km new route and venue who is going to ride?
  6. Our female dog was in season a number of weeks ago and she paid a handsome young man a visit. He really schemed he died and went to heaven. She appeared to be pregnant. Last Friday we found evidence of a miscarriage and of to the vet she goes. He had a look ans assured us that she had a miscarriage and there is no pups left. He gave her some sort of injection and anti-biotics. From Monday she really starts bloating and looks very uncomfortable. Fearing the worst we took her to the vet tonight and they did a scan. There is at least 3 heartbeats in there. Can be more according to the vet. Can you believe that. Poor showing by the first vet? What did he inject her and how will it affect the puppies.
  7. The dog is a menace not the first time it charges cyclists or pedestrians. Next time round it might bite or cause more damage?
  8. "From my side, the cycling business is circling the drain in its current business model, distributors should be volume based and cover a loyalty portion, that should not interfere with the number of shops in an area or the relavent store brands. The worst case for the LBS is customer education, once customers start fixing their own stuff, and online is a given for parts, where is the LBS going to find its business. The local distributors can ask themselves the same question." Very true I borrow tools from the LBS to fix my bike at home.
  9. I am sure we love our bicycles more than the owner loves his dog. He is responsible for wrecking the okes whole day and future relationship with his bicycle. It is worse that your wife cheating on you. So lets hope he really loves his dog. Let the SPCA confiscate the dog and put it up for adoption or put it down. Then he will have a crap day and feel what a busted relationship feels like. He could have offered to sort the damage through his insurance. Surely staying in a double story thatched roof house Louis can afford it.
  10. My riding buddy took delivery of the R 20 K Carbon 29er this morning. Goes for a quick 10 minute ride. Returning home he gets charged by a huge aggressive Boerboel which takes the front end out under him and he falls his moer off. Some cosmetic damage to bike and brand new cycling kit ruined. The owner of the dog is outside and pretends nothing has happened. When we confront him he asks my friend w hether he is ok upon which he replies that he is very sore. The owner Louis replies that he is sorry. I ask him about the damage and he replies that accidents do happen My Reply was that the aggressive dog was not on a leash and in the street. He replies his dog can be in the street. He indicates that he will not pay damage upon which I reply in that case we will report to the police as his dog was a menace previously. He replies that we must report to the police. Can I request that they remove the aggressive dog? Or put it down? What to do.
