  1. Yeah he could protest im sure - but again you are only allowed to protest within i think its 30 minutes of the DSQ being lodged ... Also he would have to have proof that any of the riders after him who did not get DSQ'ed landed outside of where the tape had been prior to it being moved.
  2. I doubt it ... The course taping is a strict issue and I think the tape being moved after Kerr's run was either done by a spectator or a marshal without the instruction of the UCI. When I did my course taping - areas where I knew riders would try and cut etc were either triple poled (three poles in close proximity) .. or the pole hole was spraypainted on the ground so that we knew if it was moved. But during finals you cant get up onto the hill to fix poles so it is up to the marshal and their discretion.
  3. Ya at the moment Tiaan Odendaal is still National Champ. It is a UCI ruling that the current national champ has the national colours on their sleeve.
  4. Yeah fair enough - but in many instances the logistics are too much for many events ... Under the Rules of the UCI an Urban Downhill would NEVER be allowed as an olympic course.
  5. YUSIS ... JA ... how did he hold that! ... WTF
  6. XC is more dangerous that DH IMO ... you need to train more - and take performance stuff ,... hahaha
  7. I'll PM you tomorrow with some ideas
  8. First - Ride what you can ... be comfortable with what you can ride - ride this till you can pretty much ride it in your sleep/ Then scare yourself .....that one drop you 'think" you can do ... get some oke who can do it to help you out ... He rides it - you run in behind him - If you dont hit it - dont worry - its NO refection on you ... Run in and run in until you eventually think to yourself on the run in ... "aaah F-it just go ..." Yes you may crash - and crashing is something that will come with riding ... so dont be afraid to crash. BUT - if you have ridden something that you sort of know you can then you will be fine. HOWEVER - you also need to learn how to crash too - Learn to TUCK AND ROLL - Watch Loics crash in PMB for the perfect tuck and roll ... This saves you But ya - Push yourself within your own limits - its the best way to ride
  9. hahhahaha I love it - Dude - Everyone "Thinks" they know their limits ... and thats the difference. If you can look at a drop or a gap and calculate it in your mind - 1. "SHlT that looks big" 2. Screw it lets try it 3. What the hell am I doing? 4. AAAH f it - just hit it ... .... If you are going through these steps you are doing it right ... and I will elaborate now
  10. BEST ADVICE EVER! - KNOW YOUR LIMITS .... Dude ... DH is ONLY dangerous if you are riding beyond your limits - ... OK so I say stay within your limits and you say - well how do you learn then?? ,. Agreed - You need to push yourself - but within your "comfort zone" ... Dont be Gung Ho and try some mad gap that you have never tried before just because some dudes on the side are yelling at you to do it ... THERE IS NO SAME IN TAKING A B-LINE ... (trust me - I have won plenty of races taking only B-lines around drops when my knee was stuffed) All you need to do is trust yourself and have that trust that you will get down safely. If you have that mindset you will be great and SAFE at riding DH ... I look at some of the young guns here inKZN and am like WTF - Alisdair Fey is one of them - I tried to teach him to be smooth and in control and ride at 90% to always be in control - but he couldnt ... So i look at that and he looks like he starts crashing as he goes out of the start - and then holds that crash to the finish ... - Now i cant ride like that. ... EVERYTHING I do is calculated ... I ride the track slow first - check lines - and then build up in 2 runs to about 60% of my known comfort range ... Then I push 2 runs at 80% and 90 % ... and thats it - I NEVER go above 90% in Provincials - I went to 100% at Worlds to win my stripes - but Sh.t that was scary and ragged - rather build your confidence in steps than going balls to the wall. Thats what Both Mr Minn and I were taught as we started together and had the same tutors.
  11. Hell NO ... even Greg says - if DH goes Olympic it will KILL the discipline. Think of the logistics ... Its too much of an issue ... If DBN was to hold the Olympics they would have to use PMB (100km away) and its not the best track even in my own right as we dont have the elevation ... then - think of the other venues we have had for olymics - London = Fort Bill (like 600km away) ..... China ... (who knows) ..... Greece (you need to go to the alps) ... Sydney = Carins ..... So the new ones - Next is Rio = ??? Then Tokyo = ??? So for XCO thats easy but for DH - to produce a world level DH - is F-ing hard .... so is just not worth it
  12. No - I have beaten 4 out of 5 - but over the 4 years i have been in charge of the world cup - I am always around the same time as the top girls ... so I take from that that I ride like a girl and should just drink wine rather! hahaha.
  13. oh and then something SCARY to think about - Gwin (no mattter whether you like him or not) Finished 76th yesterday out of 80 (and a couple of others who were protected - so say 84) riders .... So he came lets say - 8th to last with no back tyre ... HOWEVER - to put this into perspective - ONLY 1 SAFFER QUALIFIED for the top 80 - so hypothetically - Gwin was faster than all of the SA riders (Barring Tim Bentley) WITH NO TYRE! .... I would like to see the times - but he still beat like 8 guys in the top 80!! So that run with NO tyre - would have smoked Me, and you and you and you and anyone else on here with a clean run!! ... and thats F..ing scary!! ... PROPS for that! hahaha
  14. For one (and my Missus who also races DH agrees) ... i think its cool that the DH chicks are starting to try and look like chicks again ... For years they were all just girls who batted for the other team - but now there is a new crop of girls coming in who are proper girls who are absolute stunners. You can still have your hair down after the event etc (even if it is sweaty) ... Its cool to see - and hopefully it opens MTB and DH up to a new younger generation who arent heald back by the stereotypes that we saw in the past.
  15. hahaha cool Mayhem ... Ya there are a bit of bloopers on here but its cool - The thing with Greg is as follows - He and Rob Roskops wife and some of the other lads have started a jewelry company and now a clothing company - so Greg had to get to some fancy schmacy opening that conflicted with the world cup. hahahah - so he got a chopper to Munich Airport and a flight from there to London. Rough being a celeb. hahaha
  16. Luckily - 4 out of 5 dont bat for the other team - ... but AFAIK - the remaining 4 are all taken by DH'ers who will wipe the floor with all of us
  17. Sorry if this has been dealt with before - I am just getting to grips with a thread that got WAY out of control last night obviously. hahaha. Sorry Mayhem you are TOTALLY wrong - Its NOT open to ANYONE ... To be eligible to race a world cup event (XC or DH) you need to have accrued 30 (I think?) (To be honest i cant remember the exact number) UCI accredited points from you r local or international events. remember any national event or african champs or international event is registered with the UCI so may hold points - If you gain these points in your catergory then you are eligible to enter. HOWEVER!!! .... IF (like me) you are a ballie (30+) ... you would need to enter in the Elite Category to be eligiable for points as only ELites and Juniors are considered. - (thats where the Masters Worlds comes in for the ballies - you can only race Masters if you have NO UCI points to your name.) .... SO - for HayleyEarth, Tim Bentley, Johann Pottie, Stefan Garliki, SAm Bull, Tiaan Odendaal to have been eligible to enter this event they have had to go to ALL the nationals here in SA and also the Africa Champs and accrue the points to be allowed to enter the event. SO - BIG UP to them as it takes PROPER dedication to go to all the events to get those points in the Elite or Junior Cats before you can race a World Cup
  18. sorry gents I ran out of time today to do any filming ... will see what i can do over the week
  19. The one stage will only be filmed at 50% as I want to keep the one section new to everyone. Its an awesome piece so I want everyone to have to ride it blind so that its a bit different and open for everyone to win or loose it.
  20. GUTTED for Loic ... But big up to Ratboy ... He's been knocking on the door all season! ... From SA (2nd in Qualis. 2nd in Cairns ... and now a win. Nice one
  21. Hill is hauling
  22. Kerr will get a dsq im sure. he landed outside the track.
  23. Track has roughed up in the roots. That roots section with the 2 lines is rad. I think thats what got the better of hayley
