  1. Sound interesting. Are you doing it this Saturday or Sunday?
  2. The only thing that was not pleasant was the long wait at river crossing. Other than that it was a good decent route for some real mountain biking. I do not want perfectly manicured routes. Will be back next year. Better prepared and this time I will listen to uncle when he says ride slow for the first 50km. The last 20km was no fun at all due to my own fault. Saturday was loads of fun. Especially the down hill sections. The bike show can also grow a bit. Over all it was quite a pleasant weekend.
  3. I also have these but require new inner bearings. Currently using Ritchey WCS pedals.
  4. I'm looking for a new place to train with my MTB. Currently doing 60km at NF with about 600m climbing. Sadly the bumps are a bit short. The hill at Cornwall come to mind but I do not want to go there alone. Any other suggestions?
  5. E-mail from organizers confirmed that reseeding would take place at the start on Saturday.
  6. Saw a seeding of 100 in batch E. SAS is 44.xx and they gave me 57 for batch D.
  7. It is a bit on the heavy side but I dont mind. It is those "other" rides that would make the difference. I'm currently riding a Superlight with 650B wheels. very satisfied with it and handles like a dream.
  8. Any comments on this new frame from Santa Cruz? Actually a trail bike but might just be fit for marathon racing. Fork would be limited to 120mm travel. http://www.santacruzbicycles.com/en/us/5010
  9. Thanks for all the info. Looking forward to doing this.
  10. http://www.mountain-trophy.co.za/ 12 April - 75km 13 April - 45km. Entries close 30 March.
  11. Is a route profile available for this MTB race? I'm doing both days.
  12. Thanks Sean from Tread Magazine for this information. "the tyres took a slight amount of effort to get onto the Stan’s wheels we used". Although it wasn't anything major. Depends on the specific model of Wolverine tyre (there are three variations). But essentially I: Wiped everything clean on the rim and tyre casing. Squirted a slight amount of bike polish on a rag and wiped that on the tyre and rim bead. Mounted one side of the tyre (it had been lying in the sun for a while) worked the tyre bead against the rim bead. Then steadily worked the other side on using two tyre levers. Pumped to seat the tyre, then deflated and popped part of the tyre off and added sealant (OKO) Tip: Scrape down the tip of a set of tyre levers, this helps to hook the bead of the tyre with the lever. NB: I did recently add more sealant, and the tyres were noticeably more difficult to get off the rim and ended up using three tyre levers. The weather has been cool and rainy. Could be that the tyre lying in the sun was the reason it was easier to fit initially.
  13. The one currently on the shelves.
  14. I wrote to Stans and they say that the TCS tires are not compatible. Thread Mag did give some excellent tips on how to get the tire on. I will try this.
  15. Tread mag just had a test on this tire and they claim it seated on the same rim with no problems. Will write to both Tread and WTB and ask.
  16. Have anyone tried to fit this tire on these rims? I found it next to impossible and in the process fitted it the wrong way round. While struggling removing the tire I damaged the bead. The fit on the rim is too tight and seating it is also very difficult.
  17. The seeding system sucks. I inquired about a better seeding and sent out all the details via e-mail. Was told they do not use the SAS seeding as it is not their timing system. Was also told "Do not phone us. We will phone you". Did this race cause the last one was still the very old route. Wont make this mistake again. Must say the event planning was well done and the marshals out on the route was good. Water points could have done with more ice as it is not nice to drink hot coke. The actual 55km was good except the crooked seeding that caused bottlenecks.
  18. Sunday morning I encountered Motocross bikes on route at the Jukskei section. The Guard saw them but only when they were already on the other side of the river. Something should be done about this.
  19. Yes it is.
  20. For flat very sharp corners. Will practice some at Nfarm this weekend.
  21. Cool, and it's Santacruz.
  22. What is the proper technique for riding these sharp corners? I totally suck at these and constantly loose front traction. I've done the tire setup thing but very little improvement. X-king front and Rece King rear. (26") 1.9 bar, 1,8 bar front rear pressures. I suspect my position on the bike is wrong during this. Any advice?
  23. Which is better/stronger? Rapide weight 423gr and uses eyelets but has tubeless lip for seating tire. Crest weight 355gr but no lip.
