  1. Hey guys. Ordered a few things from CRC last week and today the status on the site says"Addressee advised to collect from depot" Does this mean I have to go to the mailing centre at the airport or does it always show up like that on the Parcel force web site? 28-02-2011 15:30 SOUTH AFRICA Addressee advised to collect from depot 27-02-2011 09:25 JO'BURG INT MAIL CENTRE EMS Awaiting Customs clearance 27-02-2011 09:24 JO'BURG INT MAIL CENTRE EMS Received in destination country 25-02-2011 02:36 International Hub Forwarded for export 24-02-2011 19:29 International Hub Received and processed 23-02-2011 19:33 002 Forwarded for processing 23-02-2011 00:00 WDM Online I should of just paid the flipping extra R50 for DHL to send it,always a problem with SAPO.
  2. Going to import a GoPro 960 at the beginning of the month when some funds get put into my paypal account. I have been considering ether the 960 or the Full HD 1080p one but I am going for the 960 because the price is decent and you get the 2 mounts plus the head strap. Will also buy the chest strap and 2 bike mounts and plan to do trails with different angles off the helmet, bike mounts and chest strap. The one thing I don't like is when a bike video is shot from one angle normally the head only! I find it gets pretty boring fast but if I change the angle on every track it could be cool or even have shots on the same track taken from different angles and then combined. So gopro for me is the way to go as their mounts and extra's are a bonus and although it would be cool shooting in 1080p when I upload it to the web People will normally only watch it in 720P any ways so 960 is just fine for that.
  3. Good job Hopefully most of us will do the same if in a similar situation.
  4. They also double the price! R700 pair of Giro gloves R750 at Cajees-R650 at Sports mans-R590 at another LBS. The Giant trance x2(2010) was R22,0000 at the beginning of the year and now is R23,9999. That makes it a bad LBS in my books! Edit:This is centurion branch, things might be different at the other ones.
  5. This guy is like my ultimate hero! If he is coming to SA he is going to rip it up weather he is here with a camera crew or not
  6. You guys are just upset that you cant wear all your fancy gear I think the reason they do it "naked" is to get people talking about it,however I do believe that if an event is organised correctly and a lot of attention is given you will get a lot more people participating in a event with cloths ON. I for one don't want to participate in a naked ride for a number of reasons...
  7. That sounds like something I would like, what pedals are you using?
  8. Lots of guys have bought from CRC,you will be fine and if something goes wrong and its their fault they will probable replace the item. Also if you importing a full bike you pay shipping with DHL Express so it will be quick and reliable. Just remember you must ad the 15% customs and then on the amount which includes customs you need to add 14.4% to that. You don't pay customs or tax on shipping though but you must ad R200 for customs clearing if you getting it shipped with a company like DHL. I have shipped a few things from overseas(Freebord, protective gear,Perfume,Zippo, and more) and I have never had a problem. You just need to be aware of the customs costs and what not which is why we here
  9. I think You right,if you put your cleat in the place it clips into you will most certinly clip in with the mallets...You do get one sided Clipless pedals, hereare Shimano M324 Clipless SPD/Flat Pedals,I think its a clever idea but if the one side is heavier than the other it could be a bit difficult to get it to the side you want due to that rocking kind of affect. The trance is great, have not had any problems so far Very happy with it in fact. Thanks RodTi for the info,if you could drop a little more info I would highly appreciate it I did a bit of searching and I have only found stuff on cleats I think I will keep at them and see how it goes. Hopefully I will start trusting them more, admittedly compared to the first time I rode with clipless I have improved alot. I have been wanting to buy some Eggbeaters, should I still do that or do you guys recommend me sticking with the SPD's? Thanks for all the replies,I am always grateful for them.
  10. Hey guys At the end of Decemember I switched over to clipless Pedals and have found that while I am on the trails I tend to be more careful,in other words I don't go as fast as I can around bends and going downhill I don't take the risks I would normally for a bit of a rush due to my worries of not being able to unclip if something does go wrong. Has anyone else felt like this when changing over to clipless pedal's? I currently have PD-M505 pedals and have them on the loosest setting which works well but I still feel it takes a extra second to put your foot on the floor. Should I switch back to Flat pedals and get some awesome flats(like Wellgo for example) with a pair of Five Ten shoes or should I stick it out? Or should I buy pedals with Both(one side Clipless and the other flat) which I am seriously considering. This way I can clip in when on a easy trail or riding up a hill and when doing the more technical tracks I can unclip and use the flat side. If this is the case will Crank Brothers Mallet pedals be ideal or do you recommend something else? Thanks all
  11. Not at all now you can start trying other things you not so sure about. If you never try anything you will never fail but you will also never succeed
  12. Tab is definitly not worth it,its to big to be a phone and to small to be a decent tablet. If that was a 10inch and better priced I would go for it but the ipad is still the way to go.
  13. The memory wont be a problem. If you can get it imported when it comes out wait for the ipad 2 and expect to pay R2000 more than what you can get the ipad for here. We are going to have the ipad for a while here and wont get the better ipad 2 in SA for ages. ipad 2 should be launched within the next 2 weeks if I am not mistaking. The price for the ipad in SA is cheaper than it is in the UK so its a hard one..ether get the ipad for a good price or wait and import the ipad 2 for a lot more.
  14. Western cape cyclists also brake the law more than GP riders was shocked to see how many of them were riding in the middle of the road and cycling straight through red robots. But then again half of GP and Natal were in WC for the holiday so maybe it was the tourists forgetting their manners. I am not wanting to cause trouble here,I was worried for the riders as cars flew past them in the right hand lane. Its a problem all over the world I think. The Drivers think the road is theirs and the cyclists think the same, we need to be able to share and be fair. I am(again)sorry if this hits a nerve but I am just expressing my views and don't want to cause trouble.
  15. Dunkerque http://www.vimeo.com/16009480
  16. Thanks guys I will take a pair of normal pedals just in case.Planning on buying egg beaters in a month or two so until then I will just have to use these
  17. Thanks, unfortunately I am going there with some mates that are not into cycling (yet ) so I am expecting to have to wait at the end of all the single tracks. They are Shimano PD-M515 peddles, does it make a big difference? Thanks for all the reply's
  18. Hey Guys I am planning on going to Groenkloof this week but there has been a lot of rain(and more to come) which means a lot of mud,but I have never rode in mud since getting SPD peddles. Do they clog up and what not? Should I rather use normal pedals or will I be fine? Sorry if this is a stupid Q but I had to know if I am going to battle.
  19. Very sad to hear about the liter from the riders Hope you picked up the GU Sachets and put them in your pack?! Going to groenies on Monday or Tuesday,I am preparing myself for a lot of mud,Went there just after heavy rains with my brother once and we rode home which is about another 20ks and you should have seen the looks we were getting. We were just drenched in mud
  20. Thanks Covie,I am currently in Pretoria though so going and having a look at the bike is a bit difficult since its in CPT,I have been looking at the second hand bikes and you do seem to find good deals often but since I am a large most of the time the bargins are with the Smalls and Mediums...It must be horrible riding a XL and trying to find a 2nd hand bike as the almost none existent and when they do come up they snaped up fast from the look of things. Agreed the SB really have superior specs compared to the others. I have looked at the price of the anthem x3 its the cheapest anthem and comes in at R22,800 which is just no where near what I can afford at this time or any time soon Thanks Chubba if a bike in my area and my size is listed in classieds I will check it out, currently watching the for sale section every few times a day in a feed so I am not missing to much The Scott I think looks the nicest,if I buy new I will take both for a ride including the Silverback. Hopefully there will be another Ride before you buy at fountains some time soon
  21. does anyone know the price of the Scott spark 50? Edit: Found it,according to this site they 18k! Only if
  22. Do you have a link to a fale page or anything and where do you stay? It says your location is Madagascar! Thanks Balsie for the reply, that is a worry and that is why my price has gone up by 5k in the last 4 months,I do however think I wont ride more than twice a week max though because I don't ride that much at the moment. So I take it you suggest me buying the dual sus? I really like the look of the Scott spark,is it not worth buying it over the Silverback? I bought a silverback Alpine a few years ago and really couldn't get into it so have been riding a old diamondback,at the end of the day as everyone mentioned on this forum going and test driving these things is the best.
  23. Hey hubbers I am wanting to buy a new bike in February, I currently have a really old frame thats like 10 years old and only has a one disk brake because of the upgraded front shock. I have been looking online for the last 4 months and been trying to get myself acquainted with all the specs of these bikes and whats a good deal and whats not but its still a bit confusing. When I ride I love flying downhills which makes me want to get a dual sus but I struggle on the uphills which makes me think hard tail. Its really a difficult one for me,and when you look at the specs of the hard tail vs the Dual specs the hard tails always are much better speced. I also realise that my price rang does not really cater for the Dual sus range. If you had R12k what would you buy? Currently this is what I have been looking at new: Hard tail Scott Scale 60=R10800 Silverback spectra=R11000 Merida MATTS Lite 1000-D= R12500 Silverback Shift2=R13k Scott Scale 50=R13500 Dual sus Silverback slider= R11200 merida ONE-TWENTY 500-D=R12100 Scott spark 60=R13500 Nomad FS twenty=R13600 I know what you thinking and I am thinking it too Silverback murcury 3(2011)=R13700 This is just a rough look at a few bikes in the price range,I have been eyeing out the Silverbacks because of the really good prices for the components but the Scott bikes really look nice. Is there any bike I should add to the list or even remove? I have added links for all the bikes so you can look at the specs. Its really frustrating,I was only going to spend 8k max on a bike 4 months ago but the more I learn the specs the more the price goes up due to the better components which turns out to be worth it and from there the price has slowly climbed. Any help will be greatly appreciated as always
