  1. Ja but it makes you climb so much better... But ja I agree-running just gets to me. Swimming on the other hand is probably the most boring sport I've ever done in my life. Even carpet bowls is better...
  2. AL-think you and I must start running again and see what we can do in that sport agian...
  3. Shucks is it afriman again! I remember the one year I did it-cramped so badly on the last run it took me 65min for that 10k!
  4. GL-hoekom moet ek my vinger uit my gat trek?
  5. If you can-get up to 300watts within the first 10km-use it as your 'warm-up' almost. then try take it upto 320 then 330 for km 10-20 and 20-30. hardest for me was km 28-35. but then from there you can nail it. but ja thats easier said than done. did it a Sport Science in Stellenbosch.
  6. Thats not bad! Did you peak your watts in the last few km? Did a set of 3 TT's as well. 51:34 for my quickest one. but had to keep my watts as constant as possible. no major acc. at the end
  7. Been so sick this week. k@k irritating. just want to ride now. start a well planned program for a change too. and stop eating those leke brownies i love...
  8. I think you need to be a morning and midnight person by the sound of things from some of the guys here!
  9. Ja I know-flippen best training I did for du's and tri's was done on the good old turbo. must just get into the hang of it again. like getting up early in the morning. first week or so is ***, but after that you wake up without the alarm.
  10. Man I hate my damn turbo! Rather go ride in the rain than do that... But then again-I rode in the rain Sat and Sun and haven't ridden since coz I am sick. Maybe I'll start with an easy turbo session later today. But still have to convince myself...
  11. If you got tubbies its a good idea to let down the pressure. Also-try riding and 28's instead of 23's when train. works 2-fold. more resistance and stronger, tougher tyre.
  12. Just wondering what you guys think?
  13. Who has used power cranks and what are the thoughts on this subject?
  14. TT bikes in general are awesome
  15. Ja i know. Man but to get that damn weight down is a bitch. But like I said-got 13/14 weeks til Dome 2 Dome.
  16. i bow before thee oh great one
  17. wow the wisdom astounds me
  18. Anybody know what the hell is going on over there?
  19. 79-slightly heavy for me at this time. but jo'burg season still 13/14 weeks aways so not too worried. goal weight is usually 74/5.
  20. Peter-recently did a VO2max test-peak power 458. Threshold 340. Any good in your view?
  21. Yes thats a good start Now, nutrition must also come in. Thats also part of the recipe. As for the training, what are you training for? You can't just say: I'm training to get fit. That won't work. Then-how much time do you have? This is very important too. As for the RAMP test-you could to Conconi's test too. As for a power meter on your tandem. going to be difficult don't you think because you and yur gf will have different zones to train in. unless you train seperately and then race on the tandem.
  22. This is what I am asking the experts. I am a newby with all this. Studied Sport Science and have represented SA at Triathlon and Duathlon and can ride a bike reasonably well. Many here have way more theorectical experience than me. So thus I pose those questions.
  23. How does one determine LT power? What is LT power? Does LT have nothing to do with HR?
  24. Look-this is going to go in circles all day everyday. We all know the your HR can't tell you how many watts you can push, but your watts also can't tell you what your HR is. Therefore, like I said before-they are both training tools in our toolbox and we should use all the tools we have to become the best we can.
  25. I consulted the guru himself- Joe Friel. One of his colleagues Adam Zucco replied: "I think they are both important. HR is input and power is output so they are different measurements. They are most powerful when used together. how many watts you put out is one thing, but HR will tell you some of the physiological "cost" it took you to expend those watts. HR is also very useful, but power will tell you how productive each beat is. At the end of the day when looking just at the bike, usually the more watts you average they fast you go. But again, it doesn't tell you on its own if the athlete will be able to move when they get off the bike. :)" and Joe Friel says he has it spot on. I feel exactly the same. You need HR so that you know how You the athlete are responding to whatever you are putting out.
