  1. I am very happy! Can't wait to get back on the bike.
  2. Hi! I know it is not customary to post any positive stuff here, but I would like to post a special for Annette at Cycledelic. My Anthem frame broke a while ago, and Annette fixed it up beautifully, and it won't break again, guaranteed! And in the end it was much cheaper that the original quote too! Tomorrow it is spanner time, then off for a ride! If you have any frame repairs, paintwork, touchups, you know who to call! (PM me if you do not have their number) Thanks Cycledelic! (Disclaimer: I don't have any dealings with cycledelic, apart from being a VERY satisfied customer) Before and after photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hyper7/5643969868/in/photostream
  3. Thanks guys. I am the first owner, bought it new from Bruce Reynecke. Now I'll have to hunt down that sales slip...
  4. Cool, I'll definitely find out soon!
  5. Doubt it will help any, it is way over the warranty/guarantee I think. Might be worth a try though. Else I'm in the market for a secondhand anthem frame... :o/
  6. Well, my anthem X1 seattube broke today, on my way home from work, so I was rolling along on tar. Only about 5000Km of relatively mild riding, 2 years or so old. (mostly to work and back with the odd race here and there). I am fairly tall, so my seattube (it so happens) is the perfect length when exactly on the manufacturers "minimum insertion mark", still, the tube broke. Any comments? Is it my fault? If I cant figure out how to post the pic, you can see it here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hyper7/5413115671/ http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5094/5413115671_b4ee044d3d_m.jpg Oops by hyper7pro, on Flickr
  7. Christ on a bicycle! What next indeed!
  8. Sillier than wearing a styrofoam hat to begin with?
  9. Ah, thanks!
  10. Me and the wife went riding at groenies (for the first time) last week thursday. I am from Suckunda, so it is a 2 hour drive to get there for us. I was somewhat confused though, as we could only ride the few tracks that are under/around the bridge (highway overpass). Only about 20km if you redo some of the pieces? We couldn't find any way to get into the larger part, all the gates where closed and there were busses (about 10) full of kids running around all over the place. The trails at the bridge was nice, but I was kind of disappointed. Is the other trails only open on weekends, or was I at the wrong place?
  11. Absolutely true. They missed the glaring obvious issue that my left leg is 2cm shorter than my right, and I had stabilizer muscle problems. Go see a good biokineticist first. Then a foot and leg dude. (whatever they're called) Do the bike setup once all the other stuff is sorted.
  12. Just when I lose faith in humanity, threads like this pop up. Thanks guys.
  13. Good post, chickenrun4me. If the lever pulls too far, all you need to do is get the pads a bit closer to each other. (I have explained how to do this already, you just help the "self adjusting" mechanism along a bit) No bleeding of the system required, the reservoir takes care of the ml or so (probably less) of extra fluid that is needed.
  14. Well, actually it does work for me. Notice I said "Exactly once". If it is not enough, you do it again. If it is too much, you wedge them apart and start over. No big deal. Disc brakes is not rocket science.
  15. >How do you adjust the pads? as the brake lever seems to almost touch the handle bar now Take the wheel out. Squeeze brake lever exactly once. Replace wheel. Repeat as needed. Works for me.
  16. Me and the wife rides Charlie 1 every day at 07h00 and 16h00. Wave if you see us going past all the stationary cars. I love shutdowns. Even during normal times, it is not bad at all. I cannot understand why more Sasol people doesn't commute by bike. The only really dangerous road is the one coming from C2 past the turnoff to the casino and past the new Ford garage. The taxis use it for a drag strip.
  17. I have an 2009 Giant Anthem 26" and an Anthem 29". What was quite interesting is that the 29er is about 1.5Kgs ligter. (according to the wife's bathroom scale) I am still getting used to the gears, (9spd vs 10spd) and the ratios feel different. I like it, but I find it is not THAT much different. I think on technical stuff the 26er might be better, it feels a bit more nimble. But I am still getting used to it, so my opionion might change. What bugs me most about the 29er is the manuals! The 26er front wheel comes up easy, but the 29er you have to put some effort into it! http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4088/5093637435_cb62c594c1.jpg
  18. For me and the wife, every day is bike to work day. And bike to the shops. And wherever. I start the car only when the bike is inside and I am on my way to a race somewhere out of town.
  19. I used to do that when I was a laaitie. (I had a nice western flyer race bike) Then one day I rubbed my face on the tar a bit. Still got the 'aftermarket' front teeth to prove it. Haven't tried it since.
  20. Another Anthem x29 http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4090/5079089458_1b61ee0540_z_d.jpg
  21. (Didn't read the whole thread, but I see where this is going, so let me mention something:) As the BikeSnob says, it is not about cyclists and drivers:
  22. "Modern life" makes people like that, and it is only getting worse, I think. Which is why I love cycling (especially bike commuting), it makes you slow down and relax. I've been cycling to work basically every day for the last three years, and these days when I take the car somewhere, I find that I am much less in a hurry. After all, I am used to moving much slower than the car can. (no Burry Stander, me) I also get lots less traffic fines these days. ) "When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the future of the human race. ~H.G. Wells"
  23. Hi, that is a very interesting article! I've had/have some problems with my left knee (for a few years now) and that article makes a lot of sense. Lucky the ankle I think is mostly muscle damage, it is not very swollen or discolored. So there is hope. I wish I could do a bit of running, but I think the knee is going to object to that. I try to walk as much as possible, for the impact training and support.
  24. Thanks guys. I'll go for a ride saturday afternoon and see how it feels. My wife don't want to ride alone, and we were both looking forward to the ride. I'll take a steak to wrap the ankle in if all else fails.
  25. Something awful has happened. I have been looking forward to the Crater Cruise all year, and today I went and sprained my ankle. I am entered for the 56 on sunday. You guys think it is doable with a sprained ankle? Will it heal enough in two days? Keep in mind that I cry easily. I am really depressed right now.
