  1. Anybody out there who can advise me on the best place to start riding so I can get a 2-3 hour ride in? I have not ridden these trails before and would appreciate some pointers. Fitness is probably above average, so I am open to any route suggestions. I would like to go out and ride tomorrow or Thursday.
  2. We went out to ride Tygerberg for the first time yesterday morning. We started at HIllcrest and rode up to the masts. The trails were in great condition and we were impressed. Unfortunately on the downhill from the masts a rock took out my rear derailleur, a couple of spokes and my tyre. I would like to go out again and ride for 2-3 hours and would appreciate some suggestions where to start and what route to take.
  3. I blame the Distributor. No matter what the ROE, they make their margin and pass on the fluctuation to the LBS who in turn passes it on to us. I import glass display cabinets from IKEA which I have been selling at the same price for 4 years. Sometimes the i get knocked by a strong Rand, sometimes I score on the weak end of the Rand. Swings and roundabouts on a much smaller scale, but principle is the same. Sometimes you need to take one for the team, unless of course you have to maintain a certain lifestyle and get rich by selling less at more, rather than more at less.
  4. My Contribution. The DT Swiss have been replaced with Crest's and the XT crank has been replaced with an FSR Carbon crank. Also have the XTR short cage rear derailleur with the switch to tension the chain over bumpy terrain.
  5. Hey Bos. I need to chat to you about some of the "locals only" routes. I might be coming up to Knysna around Xmas/ New Year and would like to ride some of the other routes.
  6. Ssshhhh! Years ago in Yeoville, I was checking the watches a Chinese trader was selling on the pavement and as i wanted to pick up a watch and check it out, he saw my Rolex, held my wrist and told me that his fakes were better than my one! Thought it best to leave it at that.
  7. A mate of mine offered me his Submariner for 25k last month. Didn't have the Ammo lying around to buy it. He sold it last week in Munich, must ask what he got for it when he gets back.
  8. Bought it with my savings and help from my dad about 24 years ago. Cost R 7000 then. A good investment.
  9. Rolex Submariner. A classic.
  10. If you order 10 shirts from Enjoy, you pay R 380 each, no Vat charged. Why not club together with some mates and place an order for your own design? This price is for a full colour, custom top. The best value for money, small order supplier I could find.
  11. How about a Table Mountain Bikers top? Not many of those around and at R480, they fit into the "avarage" range for a personalised top. The new ones have Camelbak logos on the sleeves and a Revolution Cycles on the middle back pocket. Made by Enjoy Fitness. Quadratex Fabric, Silicone gripper around the waist and a full zip. They use YKK zips (the best in the business). You get a nice top and you create awareness for the initiative.
  12. I believe we are all getting a credit for the 2012 event
  13. Classic! I only saw that now. Don't they sell it on the Epic website? I wonder who will sue whom for Copyright infringement? Perhaps I should send the shop the Epic logo!
  14. I have uploaded the images now. Take a look, but your point remains valid.
  15. Emergency vehicles would not have been unable to reach any crash victims and the helicopter was not able to fly in yesterday's conditions. More than enough justification to call the day off. Hermanus Traffic were also not allowing the race to come through their jurisdictions to due the adverse weather conditions. To have Plan B routes in place in case of bad weather is probably not always possible ( mark another route, remove the other markers to avoid confusion, move water points and support infrastructure etc). Think about what you need to do and I think you will agree that it is not so simple. To lose one day of the W2W was not ideal, but it's part of the package. The trails in Grabouw would have been super slippery and destroyed by some many riders. The organisers should leave the markers up for a week and let us have a go in our own time
  16. Sorry, guys. Can't upload the image via my Blackberry from Which I am accessing the Hub. Ignore this post till I work out how to upload the image. At W2W and have no laptop. Sorry!
  17. Saw this on a shop window in Zug, Switzerland on Wednesday last week. I think this is where the Creative Team's inspiration for the new Cape Epic logo came from. SORRY, COULDN'T UPLOAD IMAGES VIA MY BLACKBERRY, LYING IN MY TENT AT W2W. SHOULD HAVE CHECKED THE ATTACHMENT WAS THERE, BEFORE I UPLOADED THIS THREAD. APOLOGIES.
  18. No point moaning about the prices. Choose the rides you want to do and can afford. The overpriced races will either fold or have to adapt. The measure of a good race is not how much kit you get when you register, but all about the experience and whether it was worth the expense. Rather give me no stuff, but a fantastic route. How many Sani jackets or Epic bags does one need? Rather give me the entry option where I can choose to buy the jacket, buy the bag or book a tent and if I choose none, then deduct that from my entry fee. Or donate the equivalent amount to a charity associated with the event. Make the event costs more transparent and you will have less whinging.
  19. Give my wife a call. She is a Physio of 20 years experience and worked at the Epic and Pioneer Trek for us. She will sort you out. 083 3248331. Melanie. Tell her I found your call for help on the Hub.
  20. 29er all the way for me. 1,9m tall. 90kg. The bike is a better fit for me.
  21. You work 8 years to build a globally recognised brand and then you go a f... it up with a bland corporate logo. Whoever advised on this one should be hung out to dry. How many indpendent designers are out there who understand the spirit of mountain biking and ride themselves? There are loads who could have done a better job than a large , whisky swilling (probably Chivas- the Party's choice ),bloated advertising agency. The chain rings bouncing over the hills in the intro reminded me of a child's cartoon movie. I think the logo was designed to slot in any corporate sponsor on the left hand side , seeing that the Epic wants to franchise globally. Plug 'n Play stuff. It may just be a logo and not the ride itself, but something has been lost here and i think the stickers, shirts and gear with the old logo have just attained some extra emotional value. The logo reminds me of a soggy handshake.
  22. Find the right balance and you have a great race. Forget the Prologue, how can 27km affect your chances for the rest of the week?! It happens on a Sunday and is only important to see who wears the Leader's jersey on Day 1. The Epic starts on Monday, so does the Pioneer.
  23. Have finished both the Epic and the Pioneer this year. Pioneer wins on toughness, social interaction after the Stage and atmosphere. The field this year was small, but of a very high standard. Epic has the street cred, global recognition and gets you more bragging rights. Only thing I wish these races would realise that it is not all about the toughest, the longest, the highest.....Look at Sani, not the toughest route, but nobody moans about that and it's got a waiting list. Even Kevin Evans said that he prefers Pioneer because it is a more convivial atmosphere, where pro's and amateurs can chat over a beer or glass of wine. Good on the Pioneer to offer a Solo category, hope the Epic does the same.
  24. You are welcome to phone Altasorg, the number is on the back of each pack and in my first post. Speak to Charlotte and ask her about the patches. My name is Robert. She will tell you that we have arranged to give her a % of the proceeds. We are looking at the uptake of the product to determine how much money will go to Altasorg. We have agreed on this as they have only cut a small percentage of the vinyl I delivered and it is difficult for them to determine a unit price to charge me. This is a legit deal and I have no need for BS anybody.
